Okay I don't know what I just found on Youtube and if it's already known in the community but I found quite an interesting video! It seems his name is Dennis Verbeke and this was a performance for a talent show. Got to find out more aboutt his!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS9FTLhr5Hs
There re so many pretty G1's!
-
That was so fun to watch! I know that talent thing in amsterdam. I see you are also from the Netherlands ^.^
-
I giggled a good bit not gonna lie.
-
See? SEE! Brushing ponies is SERIOUS business! :D
-
See? SEE! Brushing ponies is SERIOUS business! :D
but..but I had no idea it was a serious talent!
-
I have no words...just nothing
I mean...what?
-
Wild stuff!
-
LOL That reminds me of me when I was a kid!!!!! Granted my pony circle wasn't quite so large, but still. My ponies lived in a box and before I could play, they all had to have their hair brushed out. Took me forever to even start playing ponies each day!
-
He has another video and has an awsome collection in it!!!!! :)
-
I find performance art to be pretty questionable in the best of circumstances, but I couldn't even focus on the 'art' aspect of this - all those ponies on that light table just made me worry they were going to get too hot and start frizzing/melting! :/
-
Stuff the brushing can you imagine how long it took to arrange them all... :)
-
I'm trying to imagine what I would do if I came across that scene in person. Probably prowling around the edges trying to think of all the ways I could sneak the ponies into my purse.
-
That is just a leetle creepy.
-
hey hey gently does it you will make their hair all dry and frizzy
-
ok..
*makes a grab at his Chief and Ringlets while he is busy brushing* :P :good:
-
That was a little painful to watch since brushing them like that will damage their hair.
There's a second video that might explain some things, but I don't speak dutch. :/

I have to admit, I didn't see the art XD I was too busy going "I want that pony, I want that pony, I want that one and that one and that one..." LMAO
-
Aw, that was quite beautiful. The oerformance actually really spoke to me. I felt like I was watching my inner child.
-
oh , um..., welll.... um.... well, you see..... :what: I've got nothing...
-
wow, pony brushing as art, wish that had been a course when I went to college for an art degree. :silly:
-
You tube played up on me so I only got a couple of minutes in... but I think that was a couple of minutes too long! Honestly... the way those poor ponies were having their hair brushed? DUDE!!! Way to ruin what may have remained of any factory curl!! Arghhhh!!!!
-
Ummmmm... I don't know what to say! I think I spotted a Mimic in that lot though. Wonder how many ponies it was?
-
How bizarre, I've never considered hair brushing as a talent... I think I understand the idea and the reason it would have been considered art, but I found the whole thing a little unnerving. *shields ponies from his brush*

I thought the same thing! XD
-
This is akin to piling slices of ham on a bed and calling it art.
He does have a nice collection though.
-
That is just a leetle creepy.
argeed i was creeped out.
-
Hey, when did they stick a camera in my room?
-
I think this might be the same guy: http://youtu.be/OV_R-_yl2iw (http://youtu.be/OV_R-_yl2iw)
It's weird. I know it's trying to send a message, but it's just weird, lol.
-
Hmm. It seems like he's playing up the "unusual" factor involved in a grown man having a pony collection. Perhaps trying to capitalise on the brony fad? Either way, I don't like it. Seems like he's saying it's wrong/creepy for men to like ponies. Especially with the strains of the song "Toxic" behind it :/

The second link to youtube if you open that in the discriptiom of the video there is a link to his site which is all in English. There he also explains a bit what he is doind and what he is letting is see. Maybe that helps :)
He is collector himself of g1 ponies btw before starting with this pony brushing thing that is what he told in the second video.
-
I wonder whether all the people who came to the performance were allowed to take a pony home as a souvenir. :)
-
Um...a...talent show? Yeah not too sure how I feel about this. I guess talent is in the eye of the beholder...
On a side note, I weirded me out that the video ended with Starflower, as mine is on display right beside my monitor. =P
-
This made me giggle. Thank you for sharing!

I took a look at the link to his website which is in English, and if I'm allowed to post the link, here it is for people to see:
http://www.dennisverbeke.com/
So in his performance, he was encouraging people to ADOPT his ponies??!! Man, I wish I knew about his performance! (Even though it was on a different continent!) I would have loved to ADOPT his ponies! :) I mean, I saw a Munchy in there! (And I need a Munchy!)
*edit* Adding a quote from his website: "I had to contain myself not to check up on the percentage every hour! New sponsors saw the necessity to make a contribution, and people who already made a donation decided they wanted to adopt another pony. Eventually the project achieved 106% which made me jump out of my seat."
This shows that he must be coming to realize just how popular it is to collect vintage MLP! ;)

I have no words...just nothing
I mean...what?
This!!!!! ...just.....why?!
-
WOW when I finally saw just how many ponies he had around him I actually jumped in surprise lol
My family keep trying to convince me to do something like this actually, I'm in my final year at Art College and they just think it would be the perfect performance... so instead I made a giant Unicorn suit and ran around a park in it rofl :P
Edit: Thanks Jupiter, after seeing his website I am so referencing him in my critiques!
-
:O That guy is cool.
Except the lighting was a little iffy.

I have a feeling "adoption" is more like when you "adopt" an animal in a zoo - you give money in order to fund its upkeep...so this was perhaps giving money in order to fund this gentlemans trip to Sweden to sit on a box and brush pony hair...man I am in the wrong job!
-

*grabs large purse adn helps Sunset :P
I have no idea what I just watched. >.> But that is a lot of ponies. :D
-
Okay the way he is holding/stroking the pony and stuff...it is just really strange. I am at a loss with that one.
-
I'm so referencing this in all my art classes now when we discuss types of performance art. I really love performance stuff, some of it is really interesting to downright weird.

Ditto on this! Just odd and creepy...... not sure I fancied the way he was stroking his ponies..... but if he considers it art, so be it..... art is open for interpretation....
