Who when you started collecting or during your collecting years did you vow that you never wanted to add to your collection or who you didnt particularly like or who you had no interest in?
For me oddly it was the Princess ponies - I remember getting a Princess Serena in a lot of 2 - one of them was Lemon Drop lol. I kept LD and sold on Serena *eye roll*. I honestly thought - hmmmm 3d symbol, tinsel in the hair that pony is so not for me....roll on about 6 months later and another lot with another Princess Serena arrived. This time I decided the pony fates were trying to tell me something, I kept her and then within about 2 days loved her and needed all the princesses!
So have you had a "no thanks"...then "I love you" moment with any sets or particular ponies over the years?
-
G2 ponies! It's Lady Cupcake's fault :P
-
I must have sold on about 6 Snuzzles over time.
I just never warmed to her grey body but she just kept cropping up again and again.
I accepted my fate and the last Snuzzle I got is now a beloved part of my collection.
Silly grey pony :)
-
When I started collecting, I said I would never want a So Soft or a Perfume Puff in my collection. Now I have one Perfume Puff and I just love her! Im also waiting on my first So Soft to arrive in mail.. Things change.
-
G2s! How many of those have I sold and given away? Then a couple of years ago one didn't sell so I plonked her on a ponyshelf. Then another came along and whilst i was IDing her I found the playsets...then more G2s....I have less than a dozen G2s but I love them! I cringe when I think of all the ones I have sold ridiculously cheaply in the past :(
-
I recently purchased glimmer wings Fluttershy and Daisy Dreams even though I told myself "no more glimmer wings" after GW Rarity. I wouldn't say I love them just yet, but they're growing on me
-
For myself, it's the G3's - I resisted them entirely when they were released (besides buying the odd one for my daughter to love <-- True!) but the past few months I've really grown attached to them (!?) and have begun to hoard them too! :lookround:
Other than that, the G1's I swore I wouldn't collect were the sea ponies and big brothers - why? Well sea ponies can't walk around with the other ponies (or be displayed properly unless they have their shells) and big brothers would annoy all the girls! Well that has certainly changed and Quarterback and 4-Speed are currently my top search contenders
-
I just recently fell in love with Moonlight/ midnight Dreams???? A G3 I totally do not know her name!
Also mail order blossom... I can't stand the CP ponies!
-
;-; Tootsie, but heaven help me I held her in my hands and I fell in love
-
G4s! And BBEs ;)
-
G4 Ditzy Doo. When I first saw pics of her, I could have cared less. Then the more I saw of her, the more I began to really want her.
And I'm really starting to want some G3.5s, after hating them in the beginning. But maybe that's the completionist in me coming out?
-
Well, when I started with G3, I didn't think I'd fall for anyone. I initially bought the Sing and Dance Pinkie Pie because I'm naturally intrigued by technology and I was just prodded by some friends at another forum to give G3 MLP a chance. I guess I ended up falling for her hook, line and sinker.
With G4, Fluttershy. I initially thought she was cute and thought I'd just buy a regular brushable and a fashion style and get it over with. Then I found out she was voiced by Andrea Libman... MAJOR pain ensued.
G1 Tales? Well, love at first sight with Sweetheart, but unfortunately by the time the cartoon made it over here, It was already 2000-2001. So no chance of getting her in toy form. And well, back then, I didn't know how to buy stuff online or do trades. However, I managed to rectify that problem.
-
;-; Tootsie, but heaven help me I held her in my hands and I fell in love
OMG it's the same for me too!!!! I just love that girl and every time I come across her she's always in such rough shape ;_;
-
G2s...I still don't entirely like them, but a few seemed to have managed to get into my collection and stay there! Also, G4s, which I do like, but didn't want to get into collecting; now I have 10 or so...
As for G1s, there aren't really any I would pass up if the price is reasonable, but I had be fairly neutral about the Perfume Puffs. I had one and did like the hair, but didn't really care too much. Then I got Lavender Lace, and now she may be my favorite! I love her so much!
-
SS Heart Throb. I was never against her, just her name, colour scheme and symbols made me give her a big 'meh' and add her to the bottom of my So Soft list. Then I found her at a Value Village, and she was in perfect condition, my mintiest so soft yet! She cleaned up so nicelyt hat I really started to appreciate her, especially her pose which is now one of my favourites.
So while she still isn't one of my absolute favourites, I definitely like her much more than I originally did.
-
I swore I would never own Perfume puffs, but now I have 2...I don't know if I'm in love with them yet...
I also thought G1s in general were ugly at first 9I was a staunch G3 collector) now they are my fave generation.
The ones I am betting I will never love are Baby Merponies, I think they are so bizarre!
-
I really don't like G2s but I do think the babies are cute. I am not looking for any of them though. I have one G2 that I and shes enough for me.
I also really didn't like the G1 BBE either. I used to give them away practicly but now I have a full set of them... I really like sleepy pie. Something about white ponies and blue hair like majesty for instance. Same with G1 petites for me I think they are cute but they just dont rock my world. Now I got all these odd ponies like Dance N prance and drink and wet and the bushy eyebrow princesses.
When I ran across the first G3s I ever saw in stores. I thought they were odd too after discovering G1s. I have so many now I have to do a recount :lookround:
-
For me its the Takaras. I thought they were ugliest things ever. And even passed up an opportunity to buy an adult.
Then one day My friend found a MIB pinky for me in Japan for $45 and I fell in love.
I now have 4 takaras in my collection and am just so in love. I love their outfits and all the accessories you can dress them
up in different styles. They are just tooo cute!
-
Rapunzel. Growing up I always thougt she was hideous but my god when I finally got one I was smitten.
-
Not specific ponies in general but, I've grown quite fond of pink ponies. I used to really dislike/avoid them but as the years have gone by I've found some of my favorite ponies are pink. Valenshy, Hidden Treasure, Heart Throb, Cotton Candy, Locket, etc etc.
-
The original ponies (Cotton Candy, Butterscotch, etc). I remember I used to feel a bit "meh" about them since they were monochromatic. However, I bought a Cotton Candy in a lot one day, and fell head-over-heels in love with her. Then came Butterscotch, whom I found at a thrift store. I used to not want her, since I'm not a huge fan of yellow. But I swear she just popped out at me, and I HAD to pick her up!
What are my feelings now? Collect ALL the originals! I actually recently realized I had started a Blossom army without even knowing it, lmao.
-
For me it was Peachy. I've had her since I was a kid and she was never my favorite. Even when I went through my collection deciding which ones to keep and which ones to sell, Peachy was in my sell pile.
Then, after having her up for sale for like a day, my brain was suddenly "Nooo! Don't want to sell Peachy!" I took her off sale and looked at her again. Suddenly I loved her and her cute little color scheme for some reason. I feel dorky, but I'm keeping her. Maybe even get myself some variants in the future.
-
Pinkie Pie! I thought the whole pink pony that there are too many of was a little annoying at first, then I got several Pinkie Pies and couldn't stop until I got as many different ones as I could. She's just so pretty.
-
...Beddy Bye Eyes...
I got them as bait an awful lot, used them as TE Baby customs and then decided I liked the little zombie freaks. Now I have an army. :D
-
g4's. Fell in love with the show, got a few, customized a few, the rest is history...
-
Mimic
I got a restored Mimic (pics coming soon) from BabyLicketySplit. She's not perfect but I've fallen hard!
-
G4s when I first saw them I didn't really like them then I saw the show and said 'ok maybe just A.J.' and now 'just AJ' has become an entire cabinet full of G4s
-
G2's. At first I thought that they're ugly, but when I restored few I totally fell for them! And now I loooove them. :)
-
G3 Cotton Candy. Not a big fan of pink but she's so bright and striking. Her Seascape pose is the best.
-
For me it was Zecora.
I thought for sure that I didn't want her, even though I really like her character. Then I saw her at TRU, and well... how do I put it... I looked deep in her eyes and she put me in trances! XD
I admit she was an impulse buy, but she's gorgeous and I don't regret it. Her glow-in-the-dark feature is really cool too! :)
-
TE Galaxy. Actually, all the TEs used to freak me out, but after I restored and cleaned my Galaxy, I fell in absolute love with her. She is now my favorite pony and because of her, I want to continue buying TEs.
-
Perfume PUffs. At first I didn't care for the look of the hair, then I saw and *touched* one in person... Now I have three of the G1s (that's all--don't care for the colors of the other ones) and one custom "Perfume Puff Sweet Suds" G4. I love to pick one up and gently wrap my hand around the puffery, then let it spring back into shape. :)
-
So much love for the Perfume Puffs now! I was the same, thought they were creepy with weird hair but I love mine now!
-
So soft ponies for me, I didn't like the flocking and thought they would be the last sets I would complete... but when I found a bag of them while thrifting I totally fell in love =)
-
Perfume Puffs. I thought they were dumb-looking. But then I met up with OL1 for the first time and she had one with her. The hair was so soft and fluffy, I couldn't stop petting it. And then I decided I needed Red Roses for my yellow/pink army, so I tracked her down and totally fell in love. She is just beautiful!
-
It was the G4 ponies for me. For the last 2 and half years I really did not like them. I did look at the time to time. And now that is most of my collection......LOL
-
I'm (almost shamefully) jumping on the perfume puff bandwagon here.... Totally converted when I got my Sweet Lily. Before that, I thought they looked utterly ridiculous, and never, ever thought I'd go there!
I also grew a soft spot for the BnG's, again... I didn't really like them. Then I got Pretty Vision in a lot and she changed my mind completely. I'm now working on completing the princess BnG set.
-
Teeny Tiny Babies. I really didn't like them when I first started collecting and then one day I got one in a thrift store bag and my opinion of them changed after I found that one. I was surprised at how cute they looked in person. Also unicorns. I typically don't like unicorns. Then I finally started buying some and now I don't really dislike them anymore, but I am still much more fond of pegasus ponies.
-
g3s and collector pose ponies I use to hate them but now love them
-
It would definitely be G4's for me. In the beginning I thought they looked like ferrets and not ponies. Eventually, seeing them pop up so often I checked them out and I was in love...Oh the horror :D!
-
G4 in general. I wasn't keeping up with the online community when they came out, so the first time I saw them was just happening to pass by them in the store. It was a bit of a shock. But after a while they started to grow on me.
Also, I'm not particularly a fan of pink ponies but G1 Whizzer and G3 Forsythia are two pink ponies that I just really like for some reason.
-
Yellow ponies. Not that I had anything against them, but yellow has always been my least favorite color. It never appealed to me. But when I went over my list of the ponies I thought were the prettiest, for some reason most of them were yellow. It was so weird! Maybe it's because two of my childhood favorites were my yellow fakie and Lemondrop? Well, "somehow", even though I said the only bigger ponies I'd collect would be childhood ones, I ended up with Dancing Butterflies and Rosedust, and even a G3 Meadowbrook, and I'm on the lookout for Bubbles and maybe Bumblesweet... Now I have to admit a gruding respect for the color yellow because it has produced so many glorious ponies.
-
G3s. I saw them as a feeble attempt to recapture the magic that was the original MLPs, and turned my nose up at them every time I saw them (which, in retrospect, seemed to be everywhere... the ponies wanted me back!). Then while I was cleaning, I found the six McHenna Ponies my dad had gotten me as a lark when they were issued. I had just gotten back into the idea of collecting again, and I had to find out more about these pretty darlings. A few websites later, I was hooked, and now I  me my G3s! And all the other gens, including the poor maligned G3.5s, though they aren't exactly my favourites... yet... :P
-
It's unbelievable but G2 Ivy suddenly became a top pony for me, for a long while.
-
G2,G3 and G4 :P
i swore only early G1's well that went out the window, once you have the pony in your hands you soon change your mind
-
for me it is some gen 2, some gen 4 FS ponies, and then I saw the breezes and now i want all of them.
-
TAF Sugarberry.
Her hair was all frizz and gross and her skin was gross. Haha.
But, after I cleaned her up and did her hair...
She's my second favorite!
-
Pegasi.
Before I got here I had a handful of G4s and three G1 Earth ponies. I don't care for the G4 pegasus mold (so poky and stiff!) and only "collect" Unicorns in G4 (the Rarity squad needs other unicorn friends to play with). I was also under the impression that I didn't care for most G1 molds - I had three Shy pose Earth girls and 4-Speed, and I liked the way those girls looked and didn't like most others.
Further research has led me to conclude that G1 Pegasus molds are awesome and I need many many pegasi in my apartment. I still don't care for... probably the vast majority of G1 molds, but of the ones I do like, most of them are pegasi.
-
G1 Collectors Pose ponies and Twinkle Eyed ponies.
-
Pinkie Pie, both in character and in toy version. I wouldn't say I've fallen for her, as her character still bugs me a bit, but I do really like my FS Pinkie.
-
Truthfully G3 Ponies. I started off just wanting G1s and buying G4s for my daughters. I got a few g3s in a few lots and presently sold them. Then after a while of cleaning random g3s and selling them I started to like their uniqueness and decided to start keeping them.
I now have 180 G3 ponies including very rare ones with a 200 lot on the way for me to clean and sort through... and I only just started really collecting MLP (not counting my childhood) in April of this year!
-
Princess Ponies, Sweetheart sisters and most recently. . . Munchy. :)
It wasn't that I hated Munchy but I thought her symbol was a little odd and I thought she was too expensive. But then I happened upon her at the thrift store and I was totally smitten. She has earned a place of pride in my colle ion. :lovey:
-
When I first saw Lily Lightly I thought she was way to gimmicky and not worth my time, so every time I saw her I passed her up. As months went by I continued to pass her up. It wasn't until after she had left stores I finally saw the charm and uniqueness that she offered. That was when I decided I had to have her. Finally I got a hold of her and I am so happy.
-
Sweetheart Sisters for me
-
For me it was the Pony Friends. Then I found Creamsicle while thrifting and fell in LOVE. Now I have Zig Zag and Spunky too and I want more of them ^.^
-
Hmmm... I don't have a lot of experience on that yet (not collecting actively/not many ponies yet) but...
I bought a bundle on my birthday that came with three G3s that I knew I was going to sell (actually, I wanted the bundle because of two HUGE fakies that looked so awesome). I sold Heart Bright and Easter Cheerilee and I was going to sell Lily Lightly too but then I started liking her more and more as I looked at her. She was in awesome shape and although having smoke smell, she eventually lost it as time passed by. I ended up liking her so much I kept her <3 Now she is in Portugal on my parent's house with all my other ponies :) I'm sure she is quite happy I kept her hihi~
Also, after some months this happened, I fell in love with FS Pinkie Pie and ended up buying her. I never though I would actually buy a G4 - I'm not THAT much of a fan yet. I was surprised at her quality and I kept her here with me <3 She is my one and only G4 so far, as I keep wanting to buy G1s as a priority.
-
BnG Ringlets and Shady. ABSOLUTELY DETESTED that pose, seriously couldn't stand it...then I got a Ringlets and loved her :lovey: then shady...then sky rocket :P I actually have 3 Ringlets now.
Anyway it was all Ringlets ( the mod) fault :P :lovey:
-
White talking Celestia. I didn't think I was going to add her, but I did anyway. She's so pretty! I might get talking Cadance too!
-
Ice Crystal for me. I never could see what the big deal was about mountain boys. It was not until just recently that I really took a look at that one and realized that I really liked/wanted him.
-
For me it's a toughie. I grew up with G1s, and while there are still some sets I don't think I'll ever get into (i.e. adult sea ponies, Brush n' Grows, and BBEs), it is still my favourite generation. I completely missed out on the G2s. Either they weren't sold in my area or I looked at them and assumed they were fakies, lol. When I first saw a G3 on store shelves, I was like, "Yay, My Little Ponies are back!" But by then I was a young woman and did the "mature" thing, kept on walking. Now I'm married and the mother of three, and I have far more ponies than I ever did as a child, lol.
When I got back into collecting, I ignored all other generations (even the G3s). But you know how it is, you get the random G2 or G3 in a lot and before you know it, you can't part with it. ;) G2s were the real shocker for me, as I thought they were the black sheep generation, a total MLP flop. But now I love their sweet smiles, sparkling eye gems, and frilly hooves. And, oh my goodness, the accessories!! Not to mention some of the cutie marks, like Tender Nuzzles, Teddy, and Waterlily. GORGEOUS.
I am still dubious about G4s, but even those have started to infiltrate my hardened heart. I bought Zecora the other day, and Honeybuzz. And the G4 friends kill me with how cute they are.
Last, but not least, are the dollymix ponies. Whatever! But they are just so tiny and cute, I couldn't resist for long. I love those petite portable ponies. ;)
