Title: my evilbay seller chucked a group of G1s in a box!
Post by: Alicat on September 04, 2012, 04:28:40 PM
I am a bit annoyed!  :enraged:

I bought a box of 10 G1s from Ebay. She shipped pretty quickly but the shipment passed a major shipping center in NAshville and ended up in Lew Orleans! WTH? I called the Post Office ( main 800 number) over the weekend, and gave them a what-for... Shoulder shrugs all around... I know that they do some odd crap, but seriously?? You put it on a truck and PASSED the hub to go 10 hours south!! I mean, I could have walked to her in the time they screwed around( seriously)!

I know that part wasn't her fault. BUT, when I got the box, it was crushed... the bottom caved in, only one piece of tape. I also think I figured the NOLA part out. The box was a coffe box " MAde in NEW ORLEANS" printed on it. gah!

The state of the packaging was what I am most frustrated with. She chucked them in a plastic bag, and threw it into the box.... again, one piece of tape on the bottom. I am floored! How can you care so little? I have not checked the state of the ponies yet, they are all in need of a spa.

I don't know what to do about feedback, at least for shipping. I have had years and years of good dealings on Ebay, but two bad ones lately. :(

Nice. Real nice. Didn't there used to be a rating for the packaging? Or am I thinking of a different site? Ebay really could use the package ratings back. I can understand people not understanding that ponies need to be carefully wrapped if they don't know what they're doing, but common sense says that you use as much tape as you need, and that it'll be bad news if your customer's package arrives with the stuff inside broken or missing. *rolls eyes* At least the ponies got there okay!

thyup! i think the only thing saving them was that the bag stuck to the tape! i would have been REALLY ticked!

Also, these people touted that they were "antiques" sellers, they should know! what is strange, they went to the trouble of adding a delivery confirmation!

It sounds like your seller was cheap, they didn't want to use up any of their tape.
You should leave them feedback that reflects how your package was sent.
It's the only way to get them to change there packaging department or at the very least send them a message.

yes this. Make sure you state that her packing job was under par. No matter what is being sent, Your items should arrive in the condition before they were shipped.

How annoying when sellers dont even bother to make an effort to wrap items properly, especially when they have advertised them as collectibles or antiques or whatever
I would first message your seller before leaving feedback though - give them a chance to make things right (and to make them aware for future sales that this isnt acceptable) .
Check all those ponies and make sure they are as described before you send the message. if they are all ok, then send something like this :
Hi -----
Just letting you know that I received my ponies and I am happy with them. Thank you for (sending them quickly, or say something else positive about the transaction- this will keep the seller sweet and start things off on a good note rather than put their back up ;) )   . However , I was a bit concerned about the packaging. While they had been put in a box, which was good, unfortunately  there was only one piece of tape  holding it together , and the box was badly damaged when it got here. Also the ponies were in a bag and there wasnt any other packaging to protect them, so they could have been badly damaged too. Thankfully they were not, but I thought I would mention this since these ponies are vintage collectible items and it worried me. I hope that you do not mind me bringing this to your attention.
Kind regards and best wishes,  ----- "
Then see how they respond.  How they respond should effect the feedback they get.  Let us know how it goes

Poor packers are all over Ebay and unfortunately, some of them are even top sellers. I have no idea how these people stay in business. They must be very lucky and have very forgiving customers.

Definitely say something.

Whoa, I am cheap... I reuse dry, clean plastic grocery bags since they are basically being recycled in my opinion and sometimes make better packing than newspaper.

What would happen if anything you bought arrived broken? I guess it's kinda hard to break a plastic toy but it's the principal of the matter. I'd def. mention packing was poorly done in feedback to help other buyers know what they risk when buying from the seller.

Oh just as a heads up! You shouldnt use newspaper or plastic grocery bags when packing ponies - the ink can rub off and stain the ponies which you are packing. Honestly, it happens really easily.

Unfortunately as others have said there is a major issue with many sellers on ebay when it comes to packing - a lot of them dont think there is much value in what they are selling and I have had packages shipped in similar conditions in the past. If you send her the message Ringlets typed then hopefully if she/he sells ponies again the same will not occur as you are educating them on the value of the item. I am glad they got to you eventually!

thanks ya'll ! I will try to send a message first, thanks ringlets!  cupcake, that would have worked, since she put them in a clear plastic bag! I usually ship my dollies in a zip-lock bag, wrapped in this plain natural paper that my job ships things to me in.

I am currently trying to spa-rehab the girls and boy to thoroughly check them over. she disclosed many of the issues, but not all. The boy had issues with pen marks and cancer spots not disclosed, grrr! I know I run that risk with ebay. Thanksfully, the pen marks came off with a lot of elbow grease and mr clean eraser!

Boy, this seller doesn't sound very good. What kind of feedback does she have?

Ugg..I would be annoyed too.  And to be honest I have been in the past over this same thing.  I don't understand what is so hard about individually wrapping each item.  I have received tons of lots in the mail over the years and I can say only about 1 out of 20 sellers package them safely.

Anyways Ringlets has provided you with some excellent advice.  A polite email stating your concerns will bring about a better result in the end. And hopefully is will make them more aware in their future dealings if they decide to sell ponies again.

*shrug* I receive ponies all the time that are just shoved in a plastic bag and thrown in a box or bubble mailer, never bothers me yet since I usually don't order ones that are in super great shape, and I haven't had any get damaged more than they were before. I'm floored when I get a package that has all the ponies wrapped individually in tissue paper and carefully packed in boxes, because for me 1 out of 20 packages will have that sort of packaging.

Only package I got from ebay that had a damaged item in it was the one that I go from china. I had ordered 2 lockets and they were being shipped from china... The dunces went and threw two metal lockets in a cardboard envelope with no protection and expected it to get to the USA just fine >_<... both lockets came horribly dented and smushed. I contacted the seller and they refunded me and I explained to them that their packaging was inadequate and they should really consider when sending delicate jewelry like that they should put it in small boxes rather than envelopes as the US postal service is not kind to packages. They thanked me for my advice and said they would bring that up with their packaging department. I don't know if they fixed anything as far as that goes, but at least it made me feel better. I remained nice and professional with them.

Most people don't think about the abuse a parcel suffers on its way to its destination.  :(  And they don't package adequately.  You can always share with us the Ebayer's ID so people know that they run the risk of loss/staining/damage if they buy from this seller!

Glad to hear that they arrived and were mostly undamaged.  Sucks about the cancer spots - I've found that most sellers either don't know about cancer or figure you'll understand and tolerate it because of the toy's age.

sorry, guys, I mis-spoke. She sells vintage toys, not an antique dealer. I got that one mixed up with another. Her ID is lonefren. Knowing she sells old and even older toys, it should be done better. She has a 99.8 % rate, so I am guessing she normally does well.

Alatariel, I normally would not have much issue, but it was a LARGE, cheap box. I had a duck mainly because they would have had a chance to completely fall out, if the tape had not stuck to the bag. I have had plently just stuck in a box, but more that were packaged, at least a little bit. lol!

oh yeah I would have had a cow if the box was damaged and the ponies were in danger of falling out because of inadequate packaging, that's not acceptable, but the rest of it sounds typical

I think it depends on how much space is in the box. If the ponies are wrapped together but aren't flying around I think it's fine as long as they aren't mint. Of course, if they are minty and are for display I think it's nice to wrap each one is a plastic bag. It doesn't have to be bubble wrap or anything.

It's more so that the hair doesn't become a mess than anything.

I don't know why packaging things are so hard for some people. It just seems like everyone packages things horribly. Probably half the sellers I have bought from have packaged items in an inappropriate way. You don't have to use bubble wrap etc, but use something like newspaper and an adequate box so that it gets there without almost getting destroyed.

Let us know how the seller responds.

that's why I don't buy minty ponies, did it once, disappointed, never doing it again. I usually buy ponies that need work but are salvageable :3

I like to buy lots of baits and make them gorgeous again, half the time all I have to do is brush their hair and they're perfect again XD

most people don't adequately package things to keep them in good condition, so I get them in crappy condition and make them pretty again XD

hi ya'll! i got a response. She was very nice, says she usually ships them that way, but will consider more packaging. She swore she taped it better, but meh... I think it is the cheap tape in combo with the DA at USPS that missent it ( which is what the NOLA stop says now).

so, she got a positive , but I did not comment as I normally do about "nicely packaged"

I'm glad your seller acknowledged your suggestions on better packing.

And I'm also glad to see that you seem to feel a little better about the situation.  :)

Well, I'm glad they made it to you!  I think it's lucky that they didn't get opened and lost in the mail.  I'm glad the seller was proffesional in their response, though.
