Title: When did G1 production end?
Post by: CakePop on September 02, 2012, 06:07:33 PM
So, er, this is a rather silly question, but sadly a simply Google search is doing nothing for me. >_< I'm doing a timeline research project for school, and I chose to make one on My Little Pony~ however, i can't seem to find when g1 production stopped before g2 started, and it would be great information to have. Does anypony know? :c

As Party says the Euro line in general concluded in 93-94 but there was a further release just in 94-95 in the Netherlands. The US line was 91-92

Here is a great site with the info on which ponies were the last released in the US http://www.kimsites.net/dreamvalley/ponies_list.html

US line was 92-93 We had 10 years It was probally closer to late 91 when they stopped as they would be selling off pre-produced stock through the rest of 92. By '94 when I started re-collecting - there were no ponies left on the shelves though I did get some coloring books.

The G2's were released late 1997.

Don't trust Kims site for release dates - they are all off by a year. First year ponies were released was 1983

Maybe it depends on how people are classing the line as "starting" in 82-83 the My Pretty Pony was repacked and sold as My Little Pony - the Peachy pony with the "MLP style" artwork so perhaps thats where the confusion comes from on Dream Valley?

According to my catalogues it goes as below and yes I honestly have been working a year out because of that double Pretty Pony year - just goes to show I should check things more clearly :)

1981-1982 My Pretty Pony
1982-1983 - My Pretty Pony
1983-1984 - Y1
1984-1985 - Y2
1985-1986 - Y3
1986-1987 - Y4
1987-1988 - Y5
1988-1989 - Y6
1989-1990 - Y7
1990-1991 - Y8
1991-1992 - Y9
1992-1993 - Y10

That's what I've been saying for years. We know the Movie was released in '86 and if you go with Dream Valley's year's the Yr 4 ponies would have been released in '85 - which doesn't make any sense. Plus if you look at copyright dates on the card they have them listed as '86.

We'll photocopy some catalogue pages and post them around the Arena Ivy! :P

I've bought Dutch ponies here in 1997, so they were still available then. However I don't know if this was simply old stock or whether they were still produced.

No the lines finish in 1995 - the 1994 UK catalogue shows the last of the lines released.

However, I dont doubt that there will have been excess stock which carried on past those years and that some ponies ended up in discount shops. There was someone found some of the later G1s in a retailer only a couple of years ago after all!

I think there will be a difference between when Hasbro stops manufacture and work on the line to when the last G1s sold out.
