Even though I work here, not sure how I'd go about obtaining this. I guess I'll just have to ask.

I want it too... and I don't work there.  So you're in a better position than me, that's for sure. :/

But I agree with you; it would make an excellent display shelf.  I love how they used the vectors of Blind Bag ponies on it. :)

Dude... that would be cool to get! Hopefully since you work there you can put first dibs on it!

that's awesome! I'd love to have on too, but none of our walmarts have that.

If you ask, I think you can get it easily! The trick is to get it right when they're changing displays. I've asked before at my local Walmart, after I noticed a pony display had been replaced with a different toy display, and I was told all displays go right in the trash bin after they're taken off the floor. So if you're there when they're changing it out, I think they'll let you have it! :3

I work at Walmart in the Toy Department, and I set up that display!  (Well the one over here in MN) and unfortunately.....we can't keep them.  Something about copyright stuff I guess...and every single endcap I've seen like that ends up in the compactor.  Walmart is very strict about this stuff.  I was lucky that I got the little topper to a Pony Sidekick last year.   Most of the boxed displays end up trashed too, occasionally we get the ok to auction those off for charity and the price gets way out of my price range too quickly.

I've been to several walmarts and I was told the same thing that ravenfeather said.  :( I've even tried to get a display when the merchandiser was taking one down. Under no circumstances can they be removed from the store, so I was told. It's such a waste.

I was going to second that store displays can't be kept :( I remember a guy in TRU telling me that all of the great stand ups, cut outs, etc. had to be tossed in the trash because of copy right and the like. My son works at Lego and said the same thing regarding displays there. He even said that if someone returns a lego set that has been opened the staff can't keep it, that it goes straight into the trash even if all the pieces are there. I remember the good ol' days when I was a kid, most places would gladly put your name down for something like that and call you to pick it up when they were done with it. My dad got so many things that way. I think with ebay came concerns about selling on the secondary market. Such a bummer...

true but there are ways to get TRU dispalys and posters  ^^ i  acutly got a skylanders  poster when they  changed  them. only becuase i was  right there  when  they changed them and hte guy rmemebered me asking  he knew i'd be in that day and he saved the poster for me. and hes like quickly go put it in your car before the manage sees.

and then a freind tried to get one and htey told him they couldnt be given out.

I work at wal-mart too and they are pretty strict about that stuff - which is a shame since I got a lot of cool displays when I worked at TRU

oh, it's pretty cool! I would love to have one like that too ^^ just how nice it would be to display ponies on!

it's quite disappointing to hear cool stuff like this is most likely to end up in the trash for silly reasons (don't get me wrong, copyright is a serious reason. but in this context I just find it silly), and the few exceptions are only due to kind workers (who may even risk their jobs - from what you wrote, if a boss saw them handing them out I guess they would be in trouble). I have both happy and sad stories about such things (nothing this big though, just some paper display boxes and that - non-pony), but they happened in different shops and I always thought it depends on the store's policy (or someone who works there wanted it too). now I know it isn't store-dependant.

That's very interesting to hear. When I first asked a Target worker about getting the canterlot display, the lady said that they have to throw them away or if the company wanted them back they had to give them back to the company. But then I was talking to these 2 really nice guys that worked there and they said they take things home all the time when the store is done with them after they ask the manager says its ok. And since I told him that I collect my little pony and him also being a collector said that he would ask his manager if he could have it and then give it to me when they were done. A couple days later I got a call from him saying that he got dibs on it. I was so excited and very greatful to him!

That's too bad about Walmart, I'll probably still ask though Lol.

*looks at bottom of display*   OMG!  Is that where the new pony posters everyone has been talking about are?!  :drunk:  Everytime I go to WM I look with the trading cards and the regular posters.  No wonder I haven't been able to find them!  I bet any they did have are all gone now.

I did get a Butterfly Island display way back in the day, although I guess times have changed since then.

Yeah, if your Walmart has this display, it's where the posters are, although like some other members have said, they don't even have the end-cap display, so I would at least check around the pony isle. I can grab you some posters if you like :)

I actually have the little poster boxes! Well, one of them; my niece has the other. My Walmart was throwing them away and my mom saved them from visiting the garbage. I wish I could have been with her, the last time I went to Walmart was the day they were doing the whole reset.  :cloud:

Yes alas times have certainly changed - it used to be if not easy then certainly possible for people to occasionally request and get such displays. Now the protection of image and brand is vitally important so its more likely things will be destroyed and recycled than passed on. Yes its copyright and image issues but it is also to stop a company's brand and product from being misused and misrepresented and to prevent the system from being abused.

But all that being said if you work there there is no harm in asking :) All they can do is say no!

Mlp4me managed to get one of the care bear displays with 4 talking care bear stuffies in a plastic dome that you push a button and watch them talk. Don't remember if it was TRU or Walmart.

Your best bet is to figure out somehow when they are being tossed- and then get them out of the garbage...

won't work - compact all our cardboard for recycling - when our store tosses it the display will be destroyed.

We still have a large amount of the posters at my store.  As soon as the endcap goes down I am taking all leftover posters!  Probably send a bunch through here, and save some for my 'My Little History' panel at Anime Detour next April.

Pretty neat display - it can't hurt to ask, but don't get upset if the store's policy is to destroy/recycle/send back to the company.  :D  I used to get Disney posters all the time this way, but it involves being very nice to management!

I use to work at Wal Mart and they don't allow anything to be taken home. When the first Transformers movie came out we had a huge display. One of the guys I worked with really wanted it. But they couldn't give it to him due to some kind of contract Wal Mart had signed with Hasbro. He was even willing to purchase it.

Wal Mart is such a drag about stuff like that though. I mean I understand copy right laws and such but what will it hurt to let someone take the display home.

I wonder if it has to do with that particular company (like Hasbro) not wanting anyone to use the displays to make their own profit? That would have to be the case, seeing how the displays are completely destroyed after use.

I would still ask. The worst they can say is no. Then at least you tried. I got a cardboard poster/box thing of the Lion King that way at Kmart. The guy looked at me funny and said I could have it if I came back the next week. When I showed up all of the posters were gone except one that he had saved for me. :) I had that thing in my room until I left for college and my little sisters adopted it.

my boyfirend used to work at Walmart and got displays all the time all he did was ask his manager, or the toy dept. manager or the hasbro rep and he got the display they usealy just throw them out anyway

They are usually fairly plain, but you can get the display boxes/trays that are on the shelves.  It is considered good manners to wait until they are empty or use them to "carry" your purchase.  I've never been stopped at the register except to show that they are empty.

At my old job, the managers generally didn't care if you took home a display or a display poster as long as you waited until it was to be tossed and took turns on the popular items.  (But of course we didn't have pony displays). The Toy Book magazines would also show up in the break room occasionally.  A have a couple, but only one features ponies (Feb 2004). :)

Target is the same way. You absolutely cannot have a display if it's copyrighted material. :(

I've been allowed to bring home two MLP: FIM kiosk boxes by bringing them to the checkout with my purchase. I even asked them and they said it waas okay. Is there a difference in response based on which department you ask?

Wow, that is an awesome display!

That is sad to hear that stores aren't letting people take the big displays/advertising posters anymore.   Back in 2005 or 2006, TRU had poster banners with some of the MLPs available at the time, and I asked if I could have them.  The person I asked took my name and number, and later they called when they were taking them down, and I picked them up, I was so excited.

Of course, maybe it is a good thing Walmart probably wouldn't let me have that display (if any of ours get it in), I am not sure where I would put it right now, and I am sure my family would kill me!

I can remember when I was working at Walmart back in High School.  I was really into collecting Marvin the Martian.  They had back to school displays with him on it.  I got to take a couple home and was so excited.  I can't remember what I did with them tho when I sold off my Marvin collection.  I was 17 then, so that was...*does math*...EEP!  Like 13 years ago! It wasn't that display which I would love to have, but the BB Boxes.  I brought it to the checkout and asked if I could keep it, to which the checkout attendant replied "I dunno that's a weird request, I guess so."

Personally speaking I think it's one of those "right place at the right time" type of scenarios.  Considering the display to be empty is obvious but there's always the mood of the employee and/or corresponding manager.  On a perfect day there should be no reason why taking the display home would be a problem, after all you're basically taking out the trash.

Yup - as mentioned thats why it happens. Its a commercial decision to ensure there brand, their image, their intellectual property if you like is not misused [whether that be through commercial use or sales]. Therefore anything reasonably large like a display will be destroyed. It sounds odd but Hasbro are putting their product into the "hands of a third party" in order to ensure that product and image is not misused they will have in place a destroy or return policy.

Also there is a big difference between an outright display and the box which the blind bags come in. The latter you will should be fine with getting as others have said - its much like keeping the cardboard tray a delivery comes in :)

The display is really nice. I think it would be great to have too.
I remember when Target had the Celestia display with the lights in it for the Canterlot series I wished I could have it so much. It's a shame they aren't able to give them away or sell them after they are done with them.
