I invite every and all to do the same. Post your very firsts and most resents! As a sort of "this is how I started" and "this is what I've grown into".
Sure sure, we've seen these threads before. So what brought this one on?
I was searching through an old external drive looking for even older art... when I found pics of the very first custom I ever did. Wind Star. She was a so-soft Shady... which I know now is the poorest bait to use when your just starting out and know completely nothing about customizing. I had no idea it would take three days to remove the flocking. THREE EFFIN DAYS. I almost gave up. I recall all the materials used were from Micheal's. No fancy Swarovski gems. No silky smooth nylon hair. No it was that tangly curly "doll" crap. Hours of brushing and re-curling right there folks. hours! She did sell in fact. for $35. I clearly remember that cause my moms yelled at me for not getting more vs. the work that went into the flock removal alone. visitors can't see pics , please register or login
This is my first custom that I did for a friend ^.^

It's really cool to see the improvements of great artists such you guys!!! I have done really few customs and I don't think I have improved really much but I show mine too. First visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This was the third pony I ever made. I can't find a photo of the first and the second I actually changed later so only have a newer picture. This one was my first attempt at sculpting too.

:D I was just thinking that we needed this thread just the other day! I can't contribute yet, but maybe after I make my pony for the swap, I can share my custom I made back in 2005 to my first one from this year ^____^

A brilliant thread!! I've actually never seen one like it before, either! :silly: PY, what year was it you customized your first? Actually, I'd like to know that about everyone posting!

I'll update with my most recent in (hopefully) a few days as my partner hasn't gotten her yet.. In the meantime ya'll can eyeball my Avvie which is a current WIP. :D

Wowzer :shocked: Some of those "before" ponies look AMAZING. Like you've been practicing a whole lot before that one :P Hard to believe they are your first customs *glares angrily at her own first so called custom which more or less looks like a kid had fun with it and a can of paint*

The evidence of my first and second were destroyed long ago in a fit of embarassment lol. This was my third, who was a bit of a learning experience. She was made back in 2010 for Halloween. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I have improved a ton, but still consider myself a beginner when it comes to customs. One day I hope to consider myself advanced, but one step at a time!

I'm with KCherry ;) I'll post my most recent once my partner get her pony. My first one was my ponysona Finesse ^.^ she has yellowed a teensy tiny bit but she still holds a place in my shelf as one of my special customs <3. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Seafoam was brush painted with acrylics (both craft and student/artist grade) and rehaired with DH hair, this is when I learned that Blueberry Muffin didn't curl so well -_-;
Unlucky Clover was my first attempt at dying... which failed in the end... also painted with craft/student/artist grade acrylics and rehaired with green wig hair... This is where I learned that dye bleeds through paint :|
Both now show more dust and streaks than they used to and UC's saddle color is now a bit weird.... I still plan on making a v2 for her XD
As for the Now part of this... I'll show off my latest XD
No student or craft paints here, she is 100% Createx and 100% DH hair!

I love these improvement threads! And everyone's firsts look great, even if there's room for improvement as far as technique goes, the first ones always have this special feeling to them.

Ohh! These are fabulous! Griffin, I so want that yellow and brown girl, all of your work is stunning, but I need that one in my life! :P
You need to go and bother Izrabeth about that one. XD The pink & green one is still free, though. ;)
@Marigold: Thanks! I still love her after all these years, somehow the poor paintjob just makes her more adorable. If I was forced to get rid of all but one of my customs, I'm pretty sure she's the one I'd choose to keep. :)

I love threads like this, and so many of the "firsts" are gorgeous! (And I remember when more than a couple of them were posted here...) It's neat to see so much progress. And Cherry--I had no idea that we started customizing the same year! :P
Okay, don't laugh, but this is my first from summer of 2007. I'm not sure I've ever actually shown pictures of her. I still have her somewhere back home; she's really sticky because I hadn't discovered the Arena yet... or sealants, apparently.

Ok, I'm hiding this thing, because it is that bad. I usually use my second custom for these, because this one embarrasses me. Oh and, don't ask....I regretted it instantly and swore I'd never touch another pony. Warning: May cause nightmares. Open at your own risk.
He was made for the first Mythology Swap back when I was living in good old Florida and he looks like a train wreck.
Here is my most recent-ish custom. I do not have pictures of the ones that came after him, another Mythology swap pony(Aphrodite) and Glory(who sold at the OH pony meet) never got final pictures. Anyway, rcent-ish custom:
Little known fact, but that symbol was painted entirely with a needle after being sketched out with a pencil. He is based off the White Tree of Gondor from Lord of the Rings and he is the custom that I am most proud of even if he is not as good as all you other fine artists.

Here's my first custom, I made it in May of 2011. I went by Sprinkles16 last year.
Mirabell made for a Flower swap. She's not my first, but my second. Made with Halloween wig hair and a Sundance I found at the local farmer's market. It's funny, but Ponys Yeah and I seem to have a similar history in sourcing materials. I remember that crappy, curly doll hair at Michaels. Guh, what a pain.
This is the last one I had any real amount of time to spend on:
Operetta, which I cannot even get $15 for because apparently I still suck at this.

EvilMuffins you do *not* suck - Operetta is gorgeous - love her colour and that hair is perfect :)
Here's my second, the first never even got a photo - she was a fakie and she's covered in test colours of paint now bless her - not even sure where she is:
This was back in 2008. I called her Baby Take Two. I didn't even rehair. Rehairing scared the life outta me ;)
and now, here's my girl for the charity auctions for ponycon this year. She was the first pony I made in over a year - I have a 16mth old and not much time these days lol!
This isn't my newest one but it is from the last couple months - my newer ones still have their own threads so I don't want to spam the board with them. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I love these! The improvements are so fun to see! :)
My first customs were actually a set of 4 that I worked on simultaneously. So I'll just post them together. I'm actually still pretty pleased with them, I did a lot of research before starting them, to be sure that I wouldn't ruin them.
And then my most recent that I actually finished was for the persona swap for lizstaley. First time I put jewelry on a pony. Certainly, the FBR was a little easier than the first time, when I had no idea how much to water down my paints!
