I'll be cosplaying for the first time soon, but I'm a little nervous because I'm big. I'll be going as Karkat Vantas from Homestuck! Show me your cosplays, pony or non pony!

I mostly have photos of others cosplaying, but here are a few quick and not really serious cosplays I did in high school. :3 I've never cosplayed seriously before, but a few of my highschool friends have done really epic serious cosplays.

My then-girlfriend as L and me as Misa from Death Note. My outfit was actually pretty good, but I don't have any photos of it not covered by that jacket, lol.

And me as a random Akatsuki member from Naruto. At this point I actually hated Naruto, but that cloak is soooo warm and soooo thin! Its amazing.

humm...

This kind of brings back really bad memories for me.  I only have 2 pictures of me dressed up like this because I ended up being hospitalized.  In this picture I feel perfectly fine.  Im in a hospital an hour later with something that im still suffering with right now (it will be a year in 2 weeks and this year will be the first time I dont go to this expo)

Hatsune Miku.  The plan was to put those square headbands in when we got there because I needed help from the boys.  Im kind of upset---theres alot of detail in that outfit (the headset lights up too!) with nothing to show for it.

Maybe when I eventually get better ill wear it again^^

Omg, cosplay is great fun! :D I'm not familiar with your character (or Homestruck at all, lol) but good luck! And don't be self-conscious about your size, I've seen tons of big cosplayers who looked awesome!

I'm not a very good cosplayer and I can't even sew (my mom sews my costumes and I do the props, accessories, and painting) but here are a few of my more recent ones...

Calico_star, I love your Kamui cosplay! Tsubasa is my favourite manga, hands down. :)

My ex and i cosplayed as Fai and Kurogane from Tsubasa at one point, but I don't have any pictures unfortunately. I'm planning on being Chi from Chobits for Sakura-con in April! \o/

I´m with Twisted here except X/1999 is my favourite manga followed by Tsubasa, with Kamui as my second favourite character (behind Subaru) :D That is an awesome costume!

That aside I just love love LOVE all your cosplays! They are amazing! and Scraleos, just go for it, compared to anime and game characters, 90% of us are too big anyway :P

I go to the London MCM Expo twice every year and cosplay every time. Last May I did Eevee/Hazama/Dave, and this October I'm gonna be doing Silver (Pokémon)/Hazama/Dave or Hazama again. Was hoping to do Nepeta from Homestuck but won't have the money/time to get everything together D:

I only sort of cosplayed once in my life when I dressed up as a pirate for the pirates of the Caribbean premiere.
Then I was just a random pirate with a made up name, but I can tell you one thing that happened;
All of my insecurities and shyness that I carried as myself completely disappeared.

I WAS that pirate, and I did not worry at all if I looked silly, because what pirate would?

What I mean to say is, don't be nervous, once you get into your outfit, just let the character take over and have fun. That's what it is all about after all, isn't it? :)

I did an Applejack cosplay ages ago that in all honesty was really bad (no photos exist of it, thank glob XD)
But I am planning a Fluttershy cosplay, I do have the general idea down it's just a case of sourcing fabrics and pursading my mum to give me a hand, as for my costume I'm having to make a top for it as I would have originally found something close to what I want and modified it but no luck but I found a pattern for what I want.
Not necessarily cosplay related but I'm hoping to try my hand at making some steampunk styled goggles, I have the 'eye piece' base for years but it was a case of finding fabric, I couldn't find say an old leather handbag to attack but I found some leather look viynal (sp?) on sale in my local fabric shop which I'm going to use instead. I also have some curtain rings to use as well, and need to get some eyelets and some plexiglass.
I've also wanted to do an Assassin's Creed cosplay but the thing daunting me is finding fabric and also finding the right materials. I know how to make a prop hidden blade (thank you youtube) and know somewhere I can get a shirt which would look right but I can't find much pattern wise for the tunic or hood. I want to do a cosplay based off this character:

 oh the boots are an issue too, theres a shoe shop near me that a while ago had the perfect pair but they don't stock them anymore so I'm going to have to improvise. D:

Dressing up as a character from an anime, comic, etc. People sometimes roleplay and adopt the mannerisms of the characters they're dressed up as. Most of the costumes people wear are handmade and take lots of effort and the end products are usually pretty amazing. I have a friend who wants to be a costume designer so, he makes cosplays for different anime conventions he goes to and enters in the costume contests, usually winning the first prize. It's can be really fun if you're into that sort of the stuff!

My brother does this all the time! He makes all his costumes himself, with the help of his wife and they do commission work. He was once photographed in the Guiness book of world records for the most people in one place dressed up as Superman! His costumes look like they're from the movies, just unbelievable! Here's a couple pics I nabbed from his facebook page.

lol it was really easy XD because I really do like to make people smile :) and it was great seeing how many people I made smile by just seeing my costume ^_^ I also handed out suckers and blew bubbles which helped :P  :lovey:

Remember, you dont need to actually RP in character if you dont want to :)

It was easy for me to do Yuna (ill have to try to find pictures..it was the year before doing Miku) from final fantasy X, because i have a similar personality to her--but i wasnt like that all the time.  Mainly just when people wanted pictures.

Miku..I never got a chance to try out her character.  I was dressed up for maybe an hour before being hospitalized and most of it was on the trainride there.  She has more of a happy carefree kind of attitude.

RainbowRevolver, I went to AnimeIowa in 2010. I loved cosplaying, but alas, I have fallen out of the anime community and I went with the wrong person. Maybe someday I'll go again. I love Halloween, which is the closest I get now. I'm going to be Black Widow (Avengers movie version) this year.

the most imporatnt for me when i was starting was: how to i get this color right and the right fabric.
authencity is something that shouldn´t be overlooked! think about if the character would really wear this material. ^^
but since you cosplay one of the beloved trolls, i guess it´s rather easy for beginners. ^^ do you already have the horns? :D
oh, and for pictures, think about different poses, try to mimic poses from artwork in front of a mirror, this really helps!
and think about having poses on 3 levels, standing, body lowered and on the floor. (do you know what i mean?)

I always see the same Leon at this one con I go to and at EVERY con I went to this year I saw the same Umbrella Corp guy, pretty sweet cosplay though. I kinda want to cosplay as Jill Valentine sometime.

The only 'cosplay' I have done was at my summer camp, don't have any pics though. But it was my Halloween costume so here we go! I made everything, except for the helmet. I am Captain Rex, a clone captain from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He, unlike me, has amazing aim with a DC-17 hand blaster, while I can't hit the broadside of a barn with a Nerf rifle!
