Title: Where is the best place to get a used anthro BJD?

I've wanted one for some time, and I don't mind one that's been used or a bit beat up. Where are the best places to look?

I'm open-minded, and rather easily enticed. I do think the baby otter is cute. I realllly want the ram as seen in the link below, but it's very limited and super expensive. I want her so bad though. Should I totally splurge on her?

you need 50 posts and to be a member for 30 days before access though.


and just to go ahead and warn you, 300 is going to be about midrange for an anthro BJD... Expect to pay about 200 even for the lower range, you can go a bit lower with the little otter you want, a Dalsoo, those are about 130$

If you're in love with her and can afford her, I say go for it. I'm not very knowledgeable about BJDs and what's popular with them, but I'd guess that if she's so limited and expensive she may rise in price and be hard to find as time goes on. The opposite could happen, of course, or even something in the middle. It depends on if you're willing to risk that, imo. Plus you can always resell her later if you're unhappy with your choice.

Den of Angels is good for secondhand stuff.  I've always found it easier buying new, but if you want a DoA invite I'd be happy to send you one.  You don't get marketplace access straight away though.

Anyway, I'm not HUGELY into anthro dolls but I figured I'd a drop a link since more options are always better :> http://www.cocotribe.com/
They have a fair variety of amimals and if you're into weird skintones they do like... everything.  I plan on ordering a Ricci with mint skin soon <3 they're also relatively affordable as far as anthros go.  The absolute MOST it costs to get one is $220, and that's with faceup+fancy skintone+taller body.

And if you really like the ram, I think you should go for it.  Limited dolls shoot up in price, especially unique ones like that, so no regrets if you decide she's not perfect!

If you can afford her and really love her I would snap up your little sheep as soon as possible as she is limited to 30. Also unlike most dolls her price is the fullset price so she comes with a wig, eyes, makeup and clothes as well, hence the higher price.

Could someone help me with the ram that I like? It says that she has the option of having 'lady hands parts'. What does that mean? I like the hands she has in the photo. Also, do I want mobility legs? Not sure what that means. The only thing I don't really care for is the hooves, but I don't think there is a way around that...

Yeah I read about the hands/legs and had no idea what they meant, too...

That mushroom peddler is awesome, I saw the gargoyle and loved him, but the dragon in one of the gargoyles pics...MUST HAVE!!  Too bad it's not for sale :/

I'm pretty sure "mobility legs" for Dearmine means a jointed ankle.  So it's up to you whether it's worth the extra.  Personally, with hooves, I don't think jointing in the ankle matters, but that's me :P

The 'mobility legs' means she'll come with an extra pair of legs with ankle joints. The standard legs for Dearmine don't have ankle joints and it makes the dolls a little hard to stand (I've played with Dearmine dolls with both mobility and non  mobility legs before).

I just scrolled through all the photos of the little ram and awwwww her little hair poking out behind her dress!  So cute.

The last picture on that site has different hands (I think) Maybe those are the basic hands you get if you don't choose the optional lady hands?

It is a bit of a scary world to take a leap into, but it's fantastic once you take that leap. I'd advise doing lots and lots of research, especially about things like restringing and general maintenance, and us BJD pony people are always here to help!

BJD's are held together with elastic, which like any elastic, eventually wears out. This means that the doll won't hold poses very well, so the elastic needs to be replaced. The process of replacing the elastic is called re-stringing.

This is just a general tutorial but it'll give you an idea of the process

As for maintenance some key things I can think of are 
-Try not to touch the makeup. Every now and then is ok, but the oils on your fingers can damage the pretty painting
- If you handle your dolls a lot chances are they're going to get dirty. You can clean them with a Magic eraser but DO NOT use it on painted areas. It will take paint off.

They're the really big ones I can think of at the moment.

Really it sounds scary but it's not as bad as it sounds. I was really freaked out the first time I restrung a doll but now I do it in about 10 minutes while watching tv!

Yeah, MP has just the sort of style I like! At the same time, I think it would be fun to collect different styles so that I have a well-rounded little herd. hehe.

Does anyone know if MP still releases a new doll every month?

yaizel: I haven't got Dorothy just yet! The only reason I can possibly afford them is because I live alone, have a full-time job and no dependents, and a moderate savings account! I do tend to get carried away though *eyes his four Spanish piggy ponies in the display cabinet*

For the sold out limited editions, DOA is your best bet. Also, just because a doll says "limited" doesn't mean it really is. It could be re-released, maybe with some kind of change like skin tone (looking at you, Soom). So keep the faith, dolly dreams do come true!

oh! i suppose that helps the most, when you are on your own you end learning a lot about how to manage finances :)  i think i shall not give up and give it a try, maybe i can get a couple of bjd on the future :)

Oh my goodness!  I NEED a rainbow of those unicorns!  They are SO cute. 

I've been TRYING to shop around for a BJD, but it's so hard.  I know what I want but it's so hard to find:(  I think when I'm finally serious about buying one I'll start a thread to ask for help.  I bet you guys could find what I'm looking for:)

Well, there are many limited BJDs that if you really want them, you can get them second hand, but they'll be hard to find and expensive T_T''

But what I suggest everyone to do (mainly if you're not such a BJD expert) is to keep your eyes looking for the Defaults.

There are so many cuties around that you can easely order direct from the store... just find some links and have fun ^^/

And remember that BJD changes a lot depending on the custom extras X D So if you find a head sculpt that makes you happy with it, you can just make it become the dear your heart desires T^T (maybe that's why I'm so into them X D I do like the "playing God thing" ).

But if you tell us what you're looking for I might be able to help ^-^/

Honestly, I should probably start with something small, like one of those gorgeous unicorns:)  I'm leaning toward a full BJD, but I know very little about them.  I browse websites, and watch pic threads, but I don't think I'm ready for the whole nine yards:)  I think starting with a $130 anthro is a good stepping stone.  I've never even owned a Pullip, or any other "gateway" doll.  I can't even tell you what resin feels like :lol:

Trust me, when I'm ready, you'll all know!  I'll be leaning on all of you very heavily:)

Yeah, I went searching.  It's a prototype and the release date is unknown.  They were supposed to be released in 2011, but it didn't happen.

OMG, you had to link that.  I MUST HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :faint:  I have admired the Mushroom Peddler, but that's the first doll that I don't think I can live without.  Oh no, I probably won't be able to afford it either.  *sadface*

I don't think ANY of us pony peeps will be able to resist it! I have no idea when it will be released though - I *think* this is just the prototype.

Yeah, I went searching.  It's a prototype and the release date is unknown.  They were supposed to be released in 2011, but it didn't happen.

You're obsessed now! Kinda like me and Daughter of Arachne/Wydona Spider...

I just remembered about Charles Creatures Cabinet. They have many tinies that are soooo cute!

The last one I saw was a sweet Elephant Lady XD~

Just found some 80$ anthros! They're pretty cute~ The eyelashes the company put on them are waaay crazy. Good thing they're removable.  :biggrin:

About IOS, they "resell" their dolls once in a while. So if you keep watching the site you might see the kities on their sales period! ^^

Not sure if anyone is interested in the human dolls with just elf ears or horns, but CherishDoll is releasing four limited dolls for September. Two vampires and two "unicorns". (One actually has two little horns)
