Title: Mermaid Dolls
Post by: karrie91 on July 15, 2012, 07:06:31 PM
Just curious, are there any mermaid or ocean themed doll collectors out there? I'm thinking of expanding my idea of collecting Ariel dolls to collecting ALL mermaid dolls. But I'm having a hard time deciding if I would group them together on display. Anyone do this and have pictures to share?

I'm a huge Mermaid lover and don't really see a lot of Mermaid doll collectors. I only have Ariel and her sisters barbies now but with my birthday coming up I thought about picking up some 'Barbie Mermaid' dolls.

I semi collect mermaid dolls.  I have a couple art sculpted fimo mermaids, a fired clay mermaid, a barbie, and I had seawees.  I never displayed them together though.  The seawees are gone  now too but I think they were the cutest.

I might just stick to collecting Ariel and keeping her with my other Disney Dolls. I just don't have the extra cash to collect the barbie Mermaids too. Though a few have beautiful tails!

Yeah and Barbies don't really have the nicest tails.  Ariel dolls
are better.  In general at least,  I think there are a few really pricy but beautiful mermaid barbies.  Oh they are coming out with a gorgeous one this year.  There is no way I am getting it because I don't want to collect barbies and she is expencive.  But she is a tempting one.

I saw a beautiful mermaid doll today at a high end toy store. I think her face was made of polymer and she had the most amazing face up, but her body was...cloth and wire, so I don't think I'm going to get her. She'd be a really nice poseable doll for a kid, though.
I already collect faeries, and have thought of expanding to mermaids as well, but I just don't have the room or money. Mermaids tend to be hella expensive.

Would regular doll stands work?  Probably not in all instances....hmm...Fishing line is handy for hanging things, so could you possibly create an upside down shelf? Maybe run the line under each armpit....just tossing out ideas.

I've never seen a collection of mermaids before, but I imagine they'd look really beautiful together on a shelf (maybe with the dolls sitting at different heights on some nice pastel fabric and raisers) :-)

I have one mermaid barbie and I love her ! She was the very last barbie I bought, too, and something I always dreamed of when I was a child :) She is this one:

She's "Barbie Mermaid Fantasy". I REALLY like her. She moves her tail and all and I love her hair ! . I'm not sure when I got her, but it was a few years ago...

TheDarkWithin - I have that Barbie too!! She's very pretty :lovey:

I collect Ariel dolls and Mermaid Barbies, but I don't have them set up in any particular way. They're all still in their boxes XD

It would be hard for me to debox a mermaid doll. For some reason they look lovely in their displays.

There's also vintage Sea Wees made by Kenner in the late 70's and early 80's; they're adorable!
