I'm going to guess it's reusing a mold from a previous year?

But the fashion style is so tiny in comparison and look so adorable!

Also, the cardboard cutout looking thing is the winner of the design your own pony contest. She may or may not have her own figure (not sure if SDCC exclusive, or regular release, or just for con display).

Did somebody sneak into CC early...?  :silly:  I thought it wasn't opened until Thursday!

Big head, small body... Seems like Hasbro/CC did it's own Franken pony! Not my cup of tea but I'm sure Ditzy fans will love it ._.

Woah. Strange.

It's almost as if the Fashion Style Ditzy Doo was too good, and Hasbro felt they had to compromise it by using a really bizarre mold shape that doesn't fit with the rest of the G4's at all.

That :muffin: Pony mismatch is adorable :whoa:
For extra lazy points, did Hasbro use the G4 "so soft" baby head mold for her?

And did they take the contest winner and make them a cardboard cutout instead of the actual display pony they advertised? Or is the pony in another case?

Freaky as she is, I still want her! ^.^

Thanks for sharing the pic!

Wow Hasbro. Just wow.... way to be lazy and cheap as hell. If you're going to try to appeal to the newer crowd, don't you know a lot of them hate older generations anyway? :P Ditzy with a G3 body is blasphemy - I expect an uproar XD

White Celestia looks lovely though. And I want to see all the things on the bottom shelf!

It doesn't match G4s because the body is a G3.

Bottom shelf stuff looks like shirts and stationary? I'm always more interested in actual toys and figures, but we'll get better pics when the con opens.

For everyone who's wondering, SDCC is still being set up, and people are sharing some pics of it.

So we really can't say what, if if, the winner pony figure will look like. None of the displays are final just yet.

I.... I think she's really cute.  Which is strange because I'm not SUPER attached to :muffin: Pony, and I've never really been fond of G3's... it's just like, her mismatchy head and body are so silly, it's totally endearing XD

It's not really accurate to say it's still being set up. Tonight was preview night, which is open to the public (if they were able to buy tickets for it) so things are pretty much set at this point. But some toys and items are revealed as the week/weekend progresses ^_^

I do hope they made a model of that contest winning pony though. Here's hoping it's something that gets unveiled later!

I hope they made a model of the design contest winner too... I'd be very disappointed if I had won and it only turned out to be a cardboard cut out :(

As for the Freaky Ditzy... looks like they made a mold for the head and wings then just used the giant G3 blank's body... boy they are lazy AND wasteful!

I actually thought Ditzy was cute :P Make her bigger and rideable and I'll gladly pay money for a small bike for one

As for the SDCC Ditzy, BBTS is sold out quick. Ah well.

Hahaha, that's crazy! Her head is bigger than her body. I want to see how she flies with those proportions...

Hoping that Fluttershy thing at the bottom is an iPad cover because I need one! :p

Wow! Thats a little freaky...if you are going to be lazy and reuse the body [no harm in the G3s still getting a little look in I suppose :P] maybe at least get it in proportion with the head!

I'm with the people who think she's cute  for some reason I just think the combination is adorable. I would quite like one. At least partially so I could freak people out when they come in my flat! I wonder how tall she is...

It's not too frankenpony too!

If they went to the trouble of making a giant head/wings, why not scale up the body too?  It just makes no sense lol. You might as well make the whole mold so you have the possibility of using it for sales in the future. weiiird haha. Plus it looks like they had to make some fort of custom neck for her to fit on that body which seems like more work to me...?
Title: Re: Giant SDCC Ditzy Doo
Post by: ApertureScience on July 12, 2012, 07:23:11 AM
Oh, Hasbro.  Guys...  You just can't do that!  Putting her head on a G3 body will not make Bronies appreciate the other generations; in fact, it may make them hate them for "ruining their :muffin: Pony."

Ugh, her head is way too big.  And I think I spy a difference in the plastic types used.  That just makes it even worse...

(Sorry if I offended everyone; that was just me being overdramatic with my... displeasure...)

Hoping that Fluttershy thing at the bottom is an iPad cover because I need one! :p
If that's an iPad cover, I hope it fits two-year-old first-gen iPads. Cause that's what I'm using and judging from how Leapfrog, VTech and Hasbro are apparently teaming up to collectively suck my bank dry, I'm stuck with it until one of them stops for a few months to give me a breather (besides, this thing does everything I need it to do anyway).

But if I could, I would buy jumbo Ditzy too. Too bad that one will most likely end up on eBay for an absurd price and most likely even if I try, I'll be outbid very fast.

I'm worn out on that character.  Hasbro thinks she's the bees knees and the silver bullet to the heart of older fans ... and it makes me queasy.

A seperate site shows that it's an iPad cover. The Licensing Fair had a Rainbow Dash cover on display, too.

I don't think it'll fit gen 1 iPads, though. Apple tries to sweep the previous gens under the rug as soon as new ones come out. The iPad 3, for example, is technically only known by Apple as the iPad, while the iPad 2 is still the iPad 2?

Why not buy an iPad 1 case and put on pony art with Mod Podge? It'll probably be cheaper, then it can look exactly how you want it.

I actually like her more than "real" Ditzy Doo!   The wings on the Fashion Styling one (and on all the FS pegasi) just don't look right, IMO.

I will be interested to see the brony reaction.  Although frankly I doubt most of them will even notice the difference, and those who do notice won't understand that it's a G3 body.  Most bronies are more show-savvy than toy-savvy.

I do hope they made a real model of the contest winner's entry . . . not just a cutout.

I dunno, I can definitely see her flaws, but she still made me smile :) I know lots of people are tired of her because of her controversy, but she's not so bad if you can ignore poo-storms xD I think she's adorable, but I do wonder what she'd look like with an up-close inspection in-hand. The curly hair is a bit odd.

Thanks for that link, Frizzycat! I love all the pics, the new Jem stuff is rad :D

Well, I wouldn't worry about it either, but for a different reason. According to TVTropes, most of them silently ignore the toys or are indifferent to the toys, the only noise you'll most likely hear are the "fan-dumb" ones complaining about how she doesn't look like she does in the show (then again, they do that with every single toy released by Hasbro, so really no big surprise there).

I still don't understand the obsession over Ditzy Doo/Ditzy....
It's kind of a show/fan relation thing.  She has a special place in a vast majority of bronies' hearts because she's how the FiM team have always "acknowledged" bronies.
Well, that and she's cute, but maybe that's just me xD

It's just weird because the G3 and G4's have contrasting art styles - Faust's stuff tends to be clean and simplistic and more abstract, but the G3's are descended from the original much more realistic ponies, and tend to be sort of marshmallowy in shape and stuff.

There will always be mouth-foamers in every community, but I think it's a pretty valid point that this was a weird thing to do. Personally I think hasbro are trying to be a bit cute, maybe? or trying to spread intergenerational love?

What weirds me is that if there is a G4 head that size, why isn't there a G4 body to go with it? Did they like.. run out of time or something?

I'm pretty sure some people are going to go a bit nuts because it's Bubble Horse, but what really confuses me is the motivation to blend the generations like that. I think it would be really cool to see a G3 ditzy.

Money.

Honestly, I don't think that she would look that strange to us if we weren't used to seeing the normal G4 mold and seeing that body mold with a G3 head.  The proportions are pretty much the same as on the other G4 toys--huge head, small body with relatively long, thin legs.

Still cheap on Hasbro's part, but I don't think the result looks bad.

Point taken.

Also you are right about the dimensions. They're not actually too far off in terms of proportion. What I find odd about them is they seem sort of bulbous.

I don't think it looks -bad-, per se, just.. I don't know. Odd. It's impossible to describe but my intuition doesn't process it.

Still. She is still a Ditzy.  ^.^

I think she looks great! And it's a cute little shout-out to the collecting community, because only we would notice it's an old G3 body. XD (But yes, most likely just done to save them money, so they would only have to do a sculpt of a head and wings)

I also love her hair, and her big head. Hee hee, she's so cute!

Yaaaay for SDCC! Man i wish there was a way for us to get that big adorable figure... but as it's been mentioned before, it will probably go up on ebay for TONS of money. -.- (Would be nice if Hasbro donated the money to charity if they did that, but I'm not holding my breath on that one...)

I think she's adorable! I'm not surpised she has an older body, since Hasbro has been known to reuse things. ;) Also, she's just a display mock-up, probably not intended for mass production, so why would they go through the extra trouble?

I don't mind the head/body ratio, but I don't like how her head is at a tilt.  She looks ditsy enough with her eyes that you don't need to have her tilting her head too.  Or maybe it is just the angle?  But the SDCC pony looks like her head is looking slightly to one side but is not tilted.  The display looks like a side look and tilt.

I think it's kind of cute. to be honest I didn't even notice it was a G3 body till someone pointed it out. Now I can't unsee it! D:

Plus the Brony side of things wildly varies, some don't bother with toys at all because they have concerns about owning them, or simply have decided they dislike the toyline as it's not "show accurate". Though Hasbro's recent overtures has grabbed their attention a little. I think in general they are just happy to see some background characters and others from the show get their dues, plus generally just pleased to see :muffin: Pony/Ditzy get a toy, after all that chaos earlier in the year where they thought Hasbro was about to delete her out of existance

To make this even more mystifying, Hasbro DID make a full giant G4 mold for the design a pony winner, so they did have the g4 body readily available. Soooo confuuuse lol

Maybe they just decided they wanted her in a different pose, rather than the G4 "I'm standing here doing nothing" pose? Or maybe they didn't have the giant G4 mold at the time, and that's why Tinker was just a cardboard cut out at preview night.

I can't believe I didn't notice it was G3 Kimono's pose at first. XD I think it's cute! Maybe they used a G3 base to make her extra unique. I agree, it gives her much more character than the regular standing G4 pose. :lovey:
