Title: Positive music any pony
Post by: SaphTalon on July 07, 2012, 09:36:24 AM
Ok I know we have songs we hate. Why would you want focus on those? So here is the positive music thread. Name one song you like the most that you have known for a long time and pick out one lyric to describe the reasons why it is your favorite.

To make things more interesting try to refrain from love songs. I don't have anything against them it just would be more interesting what would be your favorite besides your favorite love song. If you have one love song you have to post. Post one positive secular song to go with it. Secular meaning non religious as is Da rule's that we all abide to.

Mine would be Brothers under the sun by Steve Jablonsky the Spirit sound track.
Lyjric "Fallow the voice that is calling you home"

My brother is never satisfied and I have high hopes that one day he will find his home. Despite his disability turrets syndrome I love him as a brother. I listen to this song and it makes me happy despite the problems he encounters in his life. We are brothers under the sun.

Unfortunately I can't really participate since my most favorite songs are Contemporary Christian songs. =/

Tough question. I have much much more positive music compared to songs I dislike.

Ok, I'll go with Zenryoku Shonen by Sukima Switch. I didn't really know the lyrics until I looked it up minutes ago, but I like it's upbeat music and well, the lyrics start out depressing but builds up into energy and determination, and ends on a high note.

'Brother's under the Sun' is a favourite of mine, too :)

Some others would be -
'Wrecking Hotel Rooms' - MxPx. It's my fiance and I's song. He sent it to me when we were still just relative strangers talking on the internet. Being an emotional teenager, I wistfully imagined it to be a decleration of love. It wasn't untill we'd been dating for a year or so that he said that was exactly what it was xD

'I'll be there in your dreams, and in this song.'
'I know you don't know me, cause we've never met, I'm not really crazy so don't get upset.'

There are a few positive Nickelback songs that I think fit the fill..

Otherwise, I listen to just music with no words at all. Depending on the beat, it can do alot for you :) Infact, im actually listening to something right now^^

Pretty much all music from the Sonic Adventure games and NiGHTS into Dreams.  Sega sure did know how to make good soundtracks back then.

I'm a fan of instrumentals too.  Lyrics kind of get in the way for me.  I absolutely adore the boss soundtrack that Jimmy Euringer composed for Lollipop Chainsaw.

"Blinded by Light" from Final Fantasy XIII.  Sheer epicness.

And Legend of Zelda:  Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask soundtracks...

Geez, I'm such a nerd.

Edit:  Oh, you wanted one song. XD My bad.  Um... "Dreams Dreams" then.  So pleasant!

At the moment?
Waiting For The Night - Depeche Mode
I Want To Know What Love Is - Foreigner
The Rock of Ages cover of Rock You Like A Hurricane
Pretty much anything by Tim Minchin because jesus crust that man is a word genius

All-time favourites however are Sound of Silence from Simon & Garfunkel, Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd and, of course, A Kind of Magic, because Queen are my gods.

I'm not explaining myself. I like stuff because I like it.
Especially the last three. They're just amazing classic songs.
And anyone that doesn't like them is stupid.
And I know that's just my opinion, but I'm right.

If I had to pick a favorite that's been a favorite for a while and isn't a love song, it would be Magical Dreamer and there are no words.

Viva la Vida from Coldplay is my favorite.
I love every word of it, but I'll pick one.
"It was the wicked and wild wind, blew down the doors to let me in"

I hope since March is good enough for liking for a while. Other songs haven't really... stuck as hard as this one has. I don't know what it is about it. The only other song I can think of is Leaving on a Jetplane by John Denver, but that's technically a love song, so...

I actually think that the most interesting twist that has been put on this thread was the music with no words. I have not thought about that. Next time I bring this up again in at least three months I would ask if any pony can put in the words that they think would fit.

"Blinded by Light" from Final Fantasy XIII.  Sheer epicness.
What about Sunleth Waterscape? I actually enjoyed the upbeat lyrics and melody of that one too.

Hm, mine'd have to be Float On by Modest Mouse.
Lyric: "We'll all float on, good news is on the way"

It really gives me that feeling of well... everything'll be alright, no matter what I'm dealing with.

Honestly...my fsvorite song as a child was It's A Small World.  And it is still one of my favorites.  I like the tune, and I LOVE the message.

"There is just one moon, and one golden sun,
And a smile means friendship to everyone."

What's not to love?  C:

One of my favorite bands to listen to when I need something positive is Oasis.  They have a large amount of inherently optimistic songs, like "Live Forever", "All Around the World", "Hey Now!", "It's Getting Better (Man!)", "Whatever", "Go Let It Out", and countless others.  The lyrics of "Live Forever" are simple in nature, but always stick with me, especially the second verse:

Maybe I will never be/all the things that I want to be/now is not the time to cry/now's the time to find out why/I think you're the same as me/we see things they'll never see/you and I are gonna live forever

(Beware: If you're unfamiliar with the brothers Gallagher, they are NOT good-looking men.  XD)

Positive music? It varies from person to person. I'm into music, I play strings bass, and I work as an audio engineer, so for me, something positive is something that's exciting from a musical perspective. Something that's in 7/4 make me smile, so does something that doesn't follow the usual 4/4 12 bar blues structure, music that gives my brain something to chew on. I get bored with 4/4 120, I listen to a lot of 4/4 music, but my brain doesn't even process it, it goes in one ear and out the other. I like when I have to think about a song, that gets me excited, to me that's upbeat, uplifting music. A good performance will do a lot for me, too. While I don't think a lot of people would consider this song uplifting, the vocal performance is brilliant, one of the best that I've heard; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPW549JJFss Susan Calloway is a great vocalist. Something like that gets me excited about music, it gets me pumped for the next session I'm working on, it motivates me to get to the point in my career where I can record vocalists that good, it's freakin' inspiring.

Another song I get excited about is 'Funhouse Exit' by Caravan of Thieves, it's on Spotify, which you should have; http://open.spotify.com/track/5s9Cb0uIxzBZQqvhwg9VcS

It gets me all worked up and excited! It is 12 bar blues in 4/4 but the way it's broken up, they'll give you two bars of action, then it stops, then it starts again, then it stops, you never know where the song's going.  The record is called 'The Funhouse', and the closing track 'Funhouse Exit' is a pretty dark end to what is, as a whole, a dark record. The way the song jerks the listener around, so that you have no idea where it's going, what's going to happen next, it makes me so excited! It throws a spanner, it shirks the idea of the predictable song where you don't even have to be into music to know where the chorus is going to be on the first listen. The way it ends, too, it just gets cut off. It just stops. It's bloody perfect, great songwriting by a great band. It makes me so excited about music.

See signature.  The song could be one I would sing to my Spirited daughter.  Kind of her anchor to the world as she zooms through life at 60 + mph.
It's "When you come back down" by Nickel Creek.
