Title: New addition to our family!
Post by: PonySeeker128 on June 22, 2012, 06:21:12 PM
Here is the new addition to our family.. Miss Norris (thanks for the name hubby) . We got the cat from a friend of my mother in laws who works for the humane society. The litter was born behind a wall in the barn and became orphans. A whopping 4 weeks old! Still eating from bottles, TOO CUTE!! ^.^ taking a little afternoon snooze.

Yeah he was born in a barn behind a wall, the mom was nowhere to be found. He is the runt of the litter.

I didn't want to be mean, she just looked a little rough so that's why I asked. 4 weeks is awful young too. I'm willing to bet the mom would have come back, but oh well, they don't socialize with humans as well once they hit 6 weeks without human contact so I guess in the long run getting her at 4 weeks will turn out for the best.

The mother didn't come back, the babies were behind a wall, they think the mother died. They watched the barn after the babies were born while they were still in the wall and they never saw a mom so that's why they finally took them all out. Soo yes, they are all very small and don't look as "nice" as one you would pick up from petco or something but they've been bathed, they're healthy and even better, they are alive.

The messy eyes and nose usually means a respiratory infection which if not treated, even if treated, can make them sickly for life. There are also some other diseases that run in cats that need ruled out that give that look. I only worked with a cat rescue once and it was awful( many were I'll and it's sad) but you may want to get him seen by a vet other than the rescues. They often vet by what is most cost efficient. We ran everyone's blood together. If one in the batch was positive for the feline aids we put them all down.

With feral parents we did pull young. But at four weeks they should like brighter. Hope he brightens up. Nutrical works wonders.

Well, its messy face is from burying its head in the food dish about 15 minutes prior to falling asleep. He is actually pretty bright, he has a nice full belly and is very active. He eats great everyday. I will get it checked out at the vet, it goes in for its first shots soon anyway.
So thanks to the people who were excited with me.

I've been around barn kitties plenty. I just wondered where kitty came from. I hope she turns out happy and healthy for the rest of her life. Momcat probably died then if they watched for her. That's the fate of outdoor kitties. That's why I always have to hold myself back in threads about people's cats getting injured when they were outside for the night.

All of the cats I have had in the past were barn cats, I have actually never bought a cat. My favorite was a tortoise shell named Gizmo whose greeting was scaling up my back :)
