<insert sarcasm> Pre-order it on ebay for a presumably insane price months before it is released. Sure that sounds like a dandy idea, when you could just wait until it comes out and buy it for retail value. I would love to receive my insanely expensive item in the mail when it is cheap and plentiful</end sarcasm>

Ok silliness aside, it is neat to see this set. Maybe some day we will be able to zoom in a little on that pic.

TRU shows $39.99;) I can't wait! Nightmare moon is awesome:D It's been so hard not to cave and buy some of the loose ones from china...must be patient! I'm a little disappointed there's another rainbow dash and pinkie in that set though. And why put Trixie in there and sell her loose?

ETA: You can zoom in on the pics if you look at the set on TRU;)

I'm tempted to pre-order from TRU's site since I don't have a local store, but I'm worried they'll send me one with factory defects (misaligned eyes, paint smudges, etc) because it's happened in the past when I've ordered directly from Hasbro (last year's SDCC pony for example) and I don't think TRU would be any better as far as checking for quality. I could care less about the Pinkie and RD in the set since I have them, but the others I'd want to be perfect, even the ones I don't want to keep since I'm intending on using them in trades. I'd probably be better off finding another Arena member to pick up the set for me, debox and ship it to me.

Nothing like going to the moon and crashing violently down in the space of one thread. ~_~

As much as I hate the constant release and re-release of the same ponies, I almost wish this had been another 'Mane Cast' set, because at least if there'd been an Applejack, I probably could have gotten my mother to split it with me...but as it stands now, that amounts to $40 for one pony for me (since I'm only interested in Nightmare Moon), plus the cost of driving 40 miles to TRU (or having it shipped), and that is really hard to justify , even if we had an extra $40-50 lying around to spend on something like that to begin with). I would have been willing to pay more than a standard pony to get her as a single, but now I don't know if I'll be able to at all.

(If they really wanted to get the royalty/villain collectors lined up and frothing outside the store, they should release a set with White Celestia, Luna, Nightmare Moon, Cadence, Shining Armour, and maybe if they really loved us - ha - Queen Chrysalis. That would be worth $40 to me. That would actually be worth more than $40 to me.)

If you can get to a store to get one, $39.99 is a great price for what you're getting. I mean come on didn't they try to charge us this much for that "castle" play set at Target that had 2 ponies and a bunch of recycled G3 accessories? This is 7 ponies, 5 new and it includes nightmare moon who is bigger and more elaborate than the others. That's $5.71 a pony, which is only a little bit over retail for the singles. And it is specifically toted as a collector's set, yet they haven't made it stupidly expensive because of that fact which they definitely could have.

I'm very much looking forward to this set personally, and I love the box art! Can't decide if I want regular release single trixie now though since the only difference is symbol glitter.

Oh, I'm tempted.  I don't particularly want Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie but I don't actually own them so it would be a set of all new ponies for me.  :). $40 is about the amount I was expecting for it, to be honest.

That box <3 I wonder if this means we might get a box with Discord +2 of the mane 6 ponies +4 other ponies and a box with Chrysalis +2 of the mane 6 +4 other ponies in the future? Of course, Hasbro's already taking a risk with this set so it'd have to sell very well for them to consider that. And even if it does I'd assume it's still quite a ways off. I suppose I can just dream then. :hope:

Honestly, I wasn't planning on getting this set because few of the ponies caught my attention. The price is rather off-putting, especially since I'm only interested in a couple, and I'm not a fan of the glittery symbols on what's been spotted so far (unless they decide at a last minute to just put glitter on the symbols instead of splashing some on that general area). I believe Trixie had a single release with no glittery symbol, did she not? I think I'll wait and see if the rest have non-glittery symbol single releases as well.

Don't forget that TRU has good sales on pony stuff pretty often like B1G1 and sometimes emails out coupons.  I really only have to have DJPon-3 so I would probably be willing to split up the set for someone who only wants Nightmare Moon.

*Unpopular opinion time*

I don't like it. I'm sorry, Hasbro. :( It's just not for me.. I don't need another RD, and whilst I adore Pinkie she seems to be featured in every single set.. And the new figures just don't make me go 'wow'. Which is unusual. I say wow a lot. XD

I think I'm more likely to buy Zecora, as I think she looks adorable. And possibly Flower Wishes if I feel like it, who is already available on taobao. I don't like Nightmare Moon or Trixie as characters.

I don't understand why they're calling these girls 'fan favourites'. Just where did they get that info from?

Not lovely, Hasbro. :/ Octavia, the Cakes and Nurse ponies, please.

I don't know who that yellow pony is, but DJ-Pon3, Trixie, Nightmare Moon, RD and Pinkie Pie are fan-favorites. All of these ponies are quite popular, especially amongst Bronies. I see RD, Pinkie and DJ-Pon3 on "most overrated" lists all the time.

I understand it for RD, Pinkie and DJ-Pon3, but not Nightmare, Flower Wishes and Trixie..

Bronies also seem to like Lyra, :muffin: Pony, Big Mac, Golden Harvest and Dr Whooves.. Possibly Daring Do too, but she never gets a mention. We've got :muffin: Pony as Comic Con and Lyra as a single, Big Mac and Golden Harvest at blind bag size but no brushable.

I am to agree with BrightSide actually, the set is too plain for me. There should be a villain set, then a proper princess set and ponyville residents divided into packs like cake family and such.
Will probably just get Moon off taobao and desired brushables when they hit the store, if I do.

I'm so surprised, I no longer want this... I did earlier for NMM... but now that I have the 4 inch sized Luna... I am beyond happy with this 4inch size, that I think NMM will look too out of place in my heard. And Trixie will be a single........ I don't want any one else :'(
Kinda sad about that.

Is she likely to end up there, would you think, without it going into some sort of bidding war? I was assuming she'd be one of the bigger draws for the set, so I wasn't expecting I'd be able to find anyone who wanted the rest of the set, but not her.

Would have been a really nice set if Trixie, Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash weren't in it but instead maybe like Golden Harvest, Rainbow Shine, and Minuette instead?

I dont think $40 is too bad for the amount of ponies you are getting! However, as I only want Flower Wishes and Lemon  Hearts/Treats...I think I ll need to see about splitting a box with someone.

I am going to say well done to Hasbro for trying and for glittering up some ponies but I agree the selection of ponies for what is supposed to be "fans favourites" is truly random if they are judging by the "brony" community - NMM, Trixie, RD and Vinyl Scratch make enough sense...the others just seem odd inclusions.
Title: Re: Boxed collectors set (incl Nightmare Moon) spotted on ebay

Both Trixie and Nightmare Moon are very popular. O_O Also, it's not because they are not in this box that we will never see brushables of Golden Harvest and such. Lyra, Cherry Berry and Sunny Rays all just got a regular release. Not to mention that male ponies are still pretty new. Shining Armor isn't even fully released.

I feel some people are a bit unrealistic. Hasbro is testing the waters here. They are not able to cram every hint of "fan favorite" pony in there. I guess Pinkie and Rainbow help to keep the sales a bit safe. (Not to mention that there are a lot of bronies who don't really own any toys.)
I also think that if one wants "collector quality" ponies, one would be paying a lot more than 40$. At least over here, 40$ is fairly cheap for 7 ponies.

I love, love, loooove the box art and Nightmare Moon, but this seems like a very strange set.

For $40 we get:

Nightmare Moon (fan favorite)
Vinyl Scratch (fan favorite)
Trixie (fan favorite, but available as a single for $5)
Flower Wishes / Daisy (known as one of the panicky Flower Trio, but not really a fan favorite per se)
Lemon Hearts (in the show but not a fan favorite)
Pinkie Pie (has been in a bazillion sets already)
Rainbow Dash (has been in a bazillion sets already)

I dunno, it seems to me to have three main "draw" characters for TV-fan collectors, Nightmare Moon and Vinyl Scratch.  Lots of people are already buying Trixie as a single, but if they haven't bought her already she could certainly have appeal . . .

But that is a lot of ponies for $40, and I guess I can customize Pinkie.  So overall I am quite excited for this set.  Nightmare Moon in particular looks fantastic and will be My Little Pony's third official villain/antagonist character made into a toy (after Gilda the Griffon and Trixie)!!  And Lemon Treats is a YELLOW UNICORN, gotta love that!  I foresee a bunch of Red Roses customs in the future . . . ;)

But it still seems a little weird to me, because there are lots and lots of more popular TV FIM characters and it's not like it would cost any more money to make them rather than Flower Wishes or Pinkie Pie.

BTW, if you mouseover the TRU picture you can see close-ups of the characters!

Edit:  Wait, is that Lemon Hearts?  In the close up her symbol looks more like gemstones.

They all have glitter. I think that might be why Lemon Hearts' symbol looks weird, too.

But Nightmare Moon's glitter looks like it's specifically just on the moon, like the moon-shape is made of fine glitter (as with the early G1 pegasi and unicorns).   The others just have the typical G3 style of glitter, where some glue is spread over the symbol and then glitter is randomly sprinkled over it.

I could be wrong, but this doesn't seem to be the case with NMM;  I don't see any glitter on the purple parts of her symbol.

Hm, yeah, I'm not too terribly excited. That's a lot of money and I already have Pinkie and RD (NO idea why they just HAD to toss those 2 in there >.<) and I wish Vinyl's glasses came off. Lemon Hearts, NMM, and Trixie are gorgeous, but I'd really rather just buy them separately...I dunno what I'll do when I see this in stores. Maybe I'll get more excited then..

Pinkie is also quite popular in the "brony" community. Of course they usually tend to up the crazy factor on her.

I wish Pinkie and Dash were replaced with other ponies, we don't need them being re-released for the umpteenth time. Otherwise stellar if not pricey. Is it going to be Toys-R-Us exclusive? Because I seriously hope not! The local one closed down a few years ago :( :(

I love the packaging with nightmare moon on the box, how cool!  really looking forward to this set, I like glitter cutie marks (even if the glitter is all over their sides and not just on the actual symbol) so that's an extra plus for me.  I feel like I'm one of the few people who doesn't have a pinkie pie yet, so the fact that her and dash are included instead of other "fan favorites" isn't a deal-breaker for me. thanks for sharing, I can't wait till this set comes out! :hope:

But Nightmare Moon's glitter looks like it's specifically just on the moon, like the moon-shape is made of fine glitter (as with the early G1 pegasi and unicorns).   The others just have the typical G3 style of glitter, where some glue is spread over the symbol and then glitter is randomly sprinkled over it.

I could be wrong, but this doesn't seem to be the case with NMM;  I don't see any glitter on the purple parts of her symbol.

I keep calling her Lemon Hearts/Treats...as I think they look like 3 gems [similar style to Diamond Rose] rather than hearts as well.

I am not sure about the glitter - even enlarged the symbols are tough in scale to make an accurate decision but I think the glitter looks more "just the symbol" than the random tossed around glitter we have seen on Taobao ponies. But I would guess unfortunately the finished products will probably end up the same as with Sweetie Swirl and Starbeam Twinkle random glitter instead.

Thats true about Pinkie I guess...I maintain the others are random though :P

TRU Exclusive >.< And the problem being, TRU will only accept US credit cards. Otherwise I'd have it pre-ordered and sent to my VPost address.

Edit: Oh, wait, I forgot. They do now :P However, given VPost's nature, I have to wait until the release date is closer before I can place an order...

I really thought Zecora was going to be in this set. I'm so glad I was wrong though because I know I want her but I'm not sure yet if I want the rest.

I am surprised how many people here are calling the set pricy or expensive. That's just about exactly how much we'd be paying if we bought them all individually (around here, I've mostly seen individual ponies in stores for 5.99, so this is actually cheaper), and I'd imagine Nightmare Moon would cost more than the regular-sized ponies if she were a single. So this is actually a perfectly reasonable price...I was expecting a lot more since this is marketed as a collectable set.

I am curious, though....is it just me or is Rainbow Dash's hair wrong? It looks like her mane is orange, then red, then yellow, and her tail is a blend of blue and purple? And green is...somewhere? I hope that's not what it actually looks like.

I have a bad feeling that by the time I've saved up enough money, it'll be sold out--but then, I'm not looking forward to the shipping.

So excited about this set! :D One of my sisters collects G4s and agreed to split the cost with me (I already have Dashie and Pinkie); time to start saving up.

Yeah, Dash's tail is blue and purple (the green is on the very bottom of her mane).

Nooooooo no no nooo!

I like to think Pinkie Pie is there because she's "so random", and Rainbow Dash because she seems to be a massive favourite with certain internet bronies  ^.^

Personally, I'm not a fan of RD at all... but I need, need, need that Nightmare Moon! :lovey:

IMO Rainbow Dash and Pinkie are there to appeal to little kids, not collectors or bronies.  I know this set is called "the collector set", but Hasbro certainly will be happy if kids buy it as well!   :P

It's true that Rainbow Dash and Pinkie have lots of collector and brony fans, but IMO most adults who really wanted toy versions of them already have them.  They have not exactly been hard to find, ha ha!

No, I think this is more to inspire this sort of thing: "LOOK, Mom, it's RAINBOW DASH!  I had her on my Christmas list and I didn't get her . . . Please, Mom, please?  Look, she comes with all these other ponies, that makes it a really good deal!"

Oh yes, totally! But I have to disagree with one thing in your post, Rainbow Dash was quite hard to find for me! She still is nowadays, to be honest.

That makes sense - hence the presence also of an eye catching bright yellow unicorn and another pink pony?

I preordered two to get the free shipping *blush*

In all seriousness, I don't think $40 is all that much.  That's $5 per regular pony and $10 for Nightmare Moon.  But if it was $30 and didn't have Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, I would be happier.

She's already there.

Ah, shows how much attention I've been paying! I vaguely remember hearing about a supposed NMM figure at the beginning of the year, and I've still been wondering all this time if it was really going to happen or not. ^^'

I am surprised how many people here are calling the set pricy or expensive. It's not necessarily that it's too pricey for a set, if you're interested in a set, but that if you're only interested in one or two of the ponies, it becomes a lot of money to shell out just to get those one or two ponies. Other than Nightmare Moon, there's nothing in that box I'd buy on its own - I do watch the show, but my attention span for video isn't great, so I tend to miss a lot of the background stuff. Being that I'm not at all involved with the fan community beyond what I see on the Arena, and even that's mostly in passing, I don't even know who some of those ponies are or why they're popular. It's sort of the opposite of the earlier generations, for me - I used to collect any and every pony I could find, but I don't care as much for the G4 style and really can't afford to continue making indiscriminate pony purchases, so I'm focusing on specific characters. So while I can agree that the individual pony price breakdown isn't unreasonable, I wouldn't myself be buying all of those ponies individually, if I had the choice.

Lol, I want them all. My only complaints are that Lemon Hearts is weird (has diamonds, not hearts) and Vinyl Scratch has no real eyes, just an odd looking set of glasses.

Beyond that, yay, love it!

The price does seem a little high, but it does say "collector" on it so that makes it O.K.  lol  Hasbro must know we'll buy anything.  :)

I'm only interested in NMM...so I might look for a loose one later on eBay...not interested in the others, especially with DJ-PON3's sloppy glasses design.

That box is really nice! *v*
Still, I'll probably have to find someone in the US to pick one up and debox for me, for shipping cost will be crazy otherwise. Sigh.
I just wish it was an international release, even when exclusive to TRU. ..then again, it would probably cost more than twice as much over here.. :P

I've decided I don't want to drop $40 plus whatever it would cost to ship it to me since I don't have a TRU near me. So I'm just hoping that I'll be able to find people who have the set and don't want the ones I do, which are Trixie, Lemon Hearts and Flower Wishes. I really don't mind buying them each off different people, even though I'd have to pay shipping each time, because it should still be cheaper than buying the whole set. It would be nice if I could buy them all at once, though. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

It's probably a good thing I don't want the whole set anyway since there's a lot from Target's exclusives and of course, the wedding singles and the castle set that I want, which are going to cost too much as it is.
