Title: Anyone else wish Twinkle Eyed ponies.....

I know this is a very popular and loved set, and it's one of my favorites too. Some of my most favored ponies come from the TE line! But I have never cared for the gem eyes. Makes them look gaudy and ruins their appeal for me, personally.

I'd much rather my Sweet Pop have regular pretty pink eyes or my Mimic to have normal hunter green eyes.

Anyone else feel this way?

That's actually something I kind of love about them--the twinkle eyes give them a kind of mystique. And I would really love to make a 'Professor Dumbledore' custom with twinkly blue eyes after reading that description of him forty million times!

I like the Twinkle Eyes, but I kinda wish some of them were remade with regular eyes.

Post by: kissthethunder on June 12, 2012, 07:32:26 PM: TE's are my favorite set, and my collection of them is one pony away from completion <3 I love how the light hits the shimmer on their gems eyes, and how mysterious and lovely it makes them look. I've seen a couple where the eyes were not set well and they reminded me of a chameleon but I just...I just love them to pieces! They did release baby versions of some TE ponies, if that gives you some idea of how they might look if they were painted. I just wouldn't change them for anything.

Of course, the diversity of tastes among collectors makes me happy! I really feel it lets us focus on the areas which bring us the most joy and draws us together to compare notes so to speak :)

Post by: StarDragon on June 12, 2012, 07:35:31 PM: I was creeped out by them when I first saw them (the toys... I was used to seeing the cartoon), but I quickly came to love them... like, a week later I reeaally wanted a TE pony. They're one of my very favorite sets now. :)

EDIT: The story is really bizarre, but I actually like it. I am one for the weird....

They have since grown on me though, there are so many lovely ponies in that set. It would have been nice to see some of those ponies with regular eyes too. Sweet Pop comes to mind, and Masquerade.

Also, that TE origin story is kinda creepy! It makes me like them even more :P

What I wish is that they'd done what they did with year 3 and the so softs and released at least some of the ponies as both TE and non TE versions (like Posey and SS Posey or Wibd Whistler and UK/NSS Wind Whistler.). Then we could have the best of both worlds! :)

But yes, I still love the set even though I'm not so keen on the eyes. They are certainly one of the most colorful sets and the color combinations on some are stunning. Like Fizzy....ah, I even loved her in the cartoon! So cute!

I am the proud owner of a complete TE set. But maybe I can't consider it complete until I get upgrades of Speedy and Galaxy. Poor things aren't in the prettiest of shape but they are nice placeholders. Speedy is a very nostalgic one for me. I remember when I was a child finding her in amazing shape at a flea market and fell in love with her despite never having liked the color orange. It just looks so lovely on her!

And yes, gotta say I'm happy to have Mimic too, even if only just mostly for bragging rights. :D

My set recently got finished when I received a beautiful Locket in a swap. ^_^

I have 7 and want to get the others eventually. I'd still love them for their colors and designs if they had regular eyes, but the TEs add something special and weird! The iridescent eye coating is pretty enough in person, but then when you take their photo, the flash makes them glow in such a bizarre and awesome way. ^.^

That origin story from the comic is SO creepy. It's great. XD

The tiny little gems in their eyes were fetching. <3 TE look very strange to me... especially looking at them straight on. Nonetheless, I've grown to like them... which is funny because a few months ago I didn't like GI *at all*.

Mainly because regular G1 eyes have always creeped me out, how their eyes are placed and shaped like a horse's anatomically, but they're stylized to look 'feminine' and human as well as being sort of sideways D:

The TEs avoid this very neatly and I looove how otherwordly they look while still being very 'pony' <3

Post by: hathorcat on June 13, 2012, 03:39:00 AM: I love the TEs...but then I love the variety that the different sets brought to G1...it would be kind of boring [i.e. G4 lol!] if all the ponies were the same - but some have different types of eyes, some have different types of coats, some have different lengths of hair and so on! I love it and the TEs are really unique for me!

I just like to use Sweetstuff with regular green eyes for my siggy - as I've kinda morphed our personalities over the years. :)

It's mainly the colour schemes from the set that attract me, there are some real lookers in there. x3
Twinkies look really magical & other-worldly in the animation, it adds a nice charm.
Bright Eyes is the only TE I own right now, but I'd quite like to get more in the future.

I agree with that!!! It's definitely one of the most unique idea.

I always like things that have a freakish factor to them, and the TE's eyes work like a charm. I don't know, I just think they'll be a lot less appealing with normal eyes. Leave the normal eyes to the Rainbow POnies and the Brush & Grows, the gem eyes are what made the TEs a unique set. Fizzy just isn't Fizzy without her sparkly jewel eyes. Sweetpop will be 20% less cool without her jewels too.

I mean Hasbro has done lots of gimmicky ponies, and lots of them will easily win the freaky-ugly award, but the Twinkle-Eyed Ponies are definitely freaking-beautiful! They were some of my favourite ponies as child, and I think children have a thing for freaky stuff. Look at Tele-tubby, Barney...etc they are characters that adults deem disturbing, but they're such a hit with children. The TEs had the same hit on me as a child. I was a complete devoted worshipper....still am. lol I think if Hasbro had released them as normal eyed ponies in the 80s, I would have still liked them, but not in the same capacity as I do if they have those magical, mystical jewels eyes. The jewel eyes are definitely a winning touch for me. Normal eyes make them pretty, however jewel eyes make them special! Why go for average when you can be a genius? lol

I guess the cartoons helped too. I loved watching Fizzy's eyes sparkle in the cartoon, and in the Movie, Sweet Stuff got her twinkle back when the smooze was fluttered off her. And I felt extra sorry for Fizzy was Rosedust refused to help the ponies at first. She had that disappointed twinkle in her eye that really tugged at my heart strings (oh, children are so emotional!lol). In some stories, the TE ponies' eyes twinkle when they are excited, so a lot of happy emotional attachments there. :)

On topic, I am not a twinkle-eye fan. The ponies themselves are pretty but I don't like the eyes. I recently got a lovely Quackers, but only because Baby Quackers is one of my favourites and I wanted her to have her mum. Speaking of baby ponies, I think I remember that story! It might've been in an annual.

Now, I can't help but adore TE's guess they just get on me in my later years. Of course, I do find the TE's background story still weird but kinda neat at the same time.
