Post by: ThatFameMonster on June 08, 2012, 01:08:03 PM
Wash then rinse in boiling water?
Just to clarify, thanks!

You should use some kind of fabric [or regular hair] conditioner on it as well in order to attempt to get some sheen and "life" back into the strands - it wont always work but a good soak normally has some effect.

I use cheap conditioner (bought at a dollar store) for bone-dry hair, and it makes the hair so much nicer :lovey:

I'm curious as well as my Sunshine ponies all seem to have dry frizzy streaks in the color change part of their manes. I'm not entirely sure how to proceede.

Unfortunately the colour changing hair for the Sunshine ponies is a completely different creature than regular pony hair. It cant be straightened from its frizz as it melts and it is no where near as susceptible to conditioner as regular pony hair. Normally you just have to see if conditioner has any effect and then cope with how ever much it is calmed.

As the chemical component which permits the colour change breaks down it clearly damages the nylon as it goes.

For the love of Paradise Estate, don't put boiling water on your pony hair! Pony hair is plastic, plastic MELTS! Some customizers will briefly dip in their pony's curls in hot water to set them permanently, but it's brief contact.

Rise your pony hair in cool water only when washing.

Not true.  If pony hair can withstand a flat iron, it can withstand boiling water.  Just don't leave it sitting for 15 minutes or longer or you may get it dry and brittle.  Oh and do NOT do this to chartruese hair!  The color bleeds.

Lots of the time you will need boiling - or near boiling water - to clean ponies so don't think they are that fragile.  :)   The vinyl body is honestly more "weak" than the nylon hair.

The best way to get rid of dry hair is with a pair of scissors. ;)

I use TRESemme Smooth and Silky conditioner. Load the hair with conditioner (don't wet it first)and comb it through gently. Working on the ends first, then work up to the scalp. Rinse it out. It works on all but the toughest cases.

Yes this is true...its a balance - dont over expose them to boiling water because it will damage the hair in the long run but there is no harm in washing it in exceptionally warm water - a flat iron is certainly warmer than warm water and with all the sunfading some ponies get they certainly dont melt in the heat.

Use conditioner for damaged and dyed hair. It's the most nourishing.

I dye my hair quite a lot, so I have loads of it in anyway.. I prefer products from The Body Shop, Pantene and Head Candy.
