Title: Which art program would you recommend?
Post by: sd_dreamcrystal on June 06, 2012, 06:34:52 PM
Ok so I haven't done much for art lately, but there has been reasons. I can do lineart normally with my tablet pen but takes quite a while to do. So I was looking into two programs that I know you can do vector lineart with...

Inkscape and Synfig Studio

I don't know much about either and I would prefer hearing from people who have actually used the programs... I would still be doing lineart my normal way for main stuff but for things like adopts and bases and such.. I'd want to use something that would make the lineart go faster...

So what would you artsy people suggest?

For straight up line art I recommend InkScape.

I use both programs on a regular basis and InkScape is closer to Illustrator in layout and uses less memory. Synfig is closer to flash, but can be a lil... finicky... if you don't know what your doing. (crashes are common) I only use Synfig for animations and BGs. InkScape is more forgiving if you're tracing over your line art and easier to fix mistakes.

InkScape can also be imported into GIMP or PS for fine tuning and fx. Synfig you can fine tune and fx within the program.

Any other questions just shoot me a PM.  :)

I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as Lina, I'm unfamiliar with those programs.  But I can give you a :bump:  :)

Paint Tool SAI has an option for vector lineart, and also has a wonderful little option called the stabiliser that mkes all your penstrokes smooth.
