Title: Look what I found! New Fashion styles in stores!
Post by: Rhini on June 03, 2012, 07:14:42 PM: Stopped by Walmart on a hunch today, and look who I found! I almost missed them since I'm so used to the pony section having nothing new that I wasn't really paying attention lol. I honestly think they were put out early by mistake, because when I took them to the register they weren't in the system. Had to have the lady at the register manually type in the prices. De-boxed pictures to come later if anyone wants them :)

What the hay, Hasbro?!

Their box pictures tend to be ludicrously inaccurate. Whoever does their photography needs to be fired asap (which is likely someone in China).

Maybe they'll just use the same box for actual white Celestia? *crosses fingers*

LOL on a side note is it just the lighting or my imagination but it looks like white celestia in the pic has a trolestia smirk

These don't. Only the Canterlot line at Target ponies have had tinsel hair in this wave.

OP, where exactly did you find them? What town was the Walmart in? And at what price? I'm writing about this for the blog, so more info would be great.

Yay for new things though! I'll be interested to see them deboxed. I have the Canterlot set, so I probably can't justify buying these too (especially since Celestia is still pink) but they do look nice without all that gaudy glitter. The packaging sure makes it stand out that the pony who's supposed to be blue on blue is purple on purple, and the white one is pink :P

I first noticed this with the first Sweetie Belle being pearly on the back of the box and I've noticed others (including blind bags) since then. Also, some of the ponies at the toy fair were pearly, most notably, the three unicorn flower girls. My guess is it's just because they use a different (probably cheaper?) plastic for the prototypes, which appears shiny/pearlized in photos. They really shouldn't do this, though, because it seems like false advertising in a way.

I really wish that Celestia was white. I would absolutely buy her. I don't need Luna since I have the Luna from Target, which I've de-tinseled. I don't mind the glitter, but the tinsel had to go.

So I'll do a short write up since I own both of these sets. They were found for $12.86, this morning apx 10 am, in Ill near St. Louis. When they were rang up the error "item not found in system" popped up, but I was able to convince the cashier to search for the item and key in a generic fashion style pony. This leads me to believe they were put out mistakenly by someone before their official release. There were 2 of each, along with a rainbow dash. Upon first glance they're very similar, but do have very definite differences.

Luna: Symbol not glittery, hair different colors and no tinsel, as well as the little curled bit in front which is a new color, eyes same, new body color slightly warmer purple than the previous incarnation, horn and wings no glitter. Mine also has slightly smushed wings, and a dent from where her hair was strapped to her leg :huh:

Celestia: Symbol is shimmery, but its localized and not in kind of a giant blob like the last one, eyes- slightly weird pink eyeliner, hair- same without tinsel, except for darker teal curly bit in front, body color is the same, no glitter on horn or wings

A kind of nice thing to note as well, Celestia's little dress has suns on it, and Luna's has a moon stars and the milky way ^.^

Walmart in Riverton, Utah had 2 Fashion Style Princess Celestia (pink, with white in art on back of box, same as here) and 1 Fashion Style Princess Luna. They also had 2 unopened Wave 1 Blind Bag boxes, so I think they just got new stock in today/tonight.

Same experience on check-out to: UPCs not found in system, clerk had to manually enter the $12.88 price.

The 2nd Celestia is on my trade thread btw.

These were "prereleased," so they shouldn't have come out yet. BBTS has the wedding line toys slated for June/August.

I know that some companies are really stingy that their merchandise hit the streets on the right day. Some people got iPads shipped to their house from Amazon a day or two early, and Apple flipped. When this happens with video games, Gamestop or Walmart or whatnot gets into huge trouble. Hasbro doesn't seem to be as concerned about this, since their merchandise never has a concrete release date like a book, movie, game or piece of hardware does.

So it's possible that the stores might not care and just throw them on the shelves when they don't have other stock, or maybe they're waiting to set up a display. A TRU in the UK set up a wedding display a while back, so perhaps other TRU will, too? Then there's the extra room to display the extra merch.

I don't know anyone who currently works at a TRU, Target or Walmart, so I can't get any insider info. I just know people who work at McDos.

I like pink, but there's way too much of it in the line as it is. Of course, I know this is a thing with all girls stuff, not just toys. My brother and his wife are having a baby girl in a few weeks and she doesn't want pink stuff for the baby because she likes purple. But my mom and I are finding it pretty hard to find baby stuff that isn't pink. Not all girls like pink, though. When I was a kid, I loved blue. I actually hated pink until I was an adult.

Anyway, back on subject, I really hope they do release the white Celestia eventually. I figured that now that they have Cadence, they wouldn't need Celestia to be pink anymore.

The white Celestia on the back of the box is confusing and I am also going to say a teeny bit worrying because now I ponder as to whether this box should have had white Celestia after all and instead she has ended up being pink - perhaps a retailer issue, perhaps a HB marketing issue. These new FS style princesses did turn up on Taobao around the same time as the white one...hmmmmm....my confidence that white Celestia will be released has now taken a dip.

Pre-released happens occasionally with stock - it happened over here when G4s first arrived in stores - they started turning up in Tesco but none of them were in the system and after trying to purchase them, the mistake was realised and a lot of the displays were whipped back into the back of the stores awaiting until the items were actually in the retailers system which mean they could be out on the floor. I would guess the same with these gals!

Post by: Rhini on June 04, 2012, 07:18:03 AM: I really like both versions to be honest, they're some of my favorite fashion style releases so I don't mind them only being slightly different :) They are definitely not pearlized, and Luna's hair isn't pink, its a very dark reddish purple. It's actually much more true to her real colors (minus the fuchsia) than the previous one.

I kind of wish her accessories weren't yellow though, it just seems a little jarring against the dark tone of her body. I mean I get it moon yellow blah lol Give me some nice purple or blue shoes!

Honestly I don't think she's meant to be "white" per se, Hasbro really weirdly edits their packaging photos and a lot of the time they don't look anything like what's actually in the box. I would be very skeptical about that image actually being a white Celestia, far more likely it is just a heavily doctored photo.

However, I will admit I'm am slightly tempted by Luna. I like the changes to her hair color and and the fact you can see her symbol better. I wouldn't be too surprised if I didn't end up with her at some point. :P

Celestia, on the other hand, just doesn't impress. And I really, really don't like what they have done to her eyes. It looks like they forgot to paint her bottom lashes. :huh:

I don't get why Hasbro thinks that "pink sells better" when they are like 40 talking Celestias at 70% on sale in a store near were I live and they are not moving at all. :enraged:

The styling Rarity instead sold out in just two weeks and in a normal price.

They didn't. They were really picked over in general (only two brushables, and a few talking Celestia, and that was it outside of the new Luna and Celestia fashion styles).

If the clerks give you trouble, give them the exact price of the item (I believe it's $12.86) and ask for them to search for it and/or bring up a regular fashion style like rainbow dash for them to use for the price. Anyone who says no is just being lazy and doesn't want to look it up, I would ask for a manager if they give you trouble again. If it's out on their shelves you should be able to buy it.

Luna and Celestia look a lot nicer without tinsel, in my opinion... though it's a shame Celestia is still so pink. Ah, well. Congrats on the find!

Also, that's very odd, hannaliten... it seems to me that if it's out on the shelf, they should have it in the system already. If a customer can pick it up off the shelf, they should be able to buy it. Sigh...

This is exactly what happened to me when G4s were first out in the UK - I was told in a couple of shops that most retailers dont have to sell you something thats not in their system - if it doesnt show in their system, its not been input which means it shouldnt be on the shop floor. Soooo frustrating!

I know I said earlier in the thread I wasn't really interested in them, but I ended up walking out with Luna. And I'm really glad I did. She's quite stunning! I still wasn't impressed by Celestia, so I left her behind. :huh:

have someone on the floor scan her with their gun. it won't work, so show them the other FS that DO scan and ask them to print you a label. he printed me a little yellow and white label with a bar code on it. apparently it was for FS Rainbow Dash , because the cashier said "rainbow?" and I said yup. worked for me.

Psst, just wanted to say that I did just this buying Celestia today. Got an employee to print me off a price sticker and bought her without hassle!
