But in my mind I am assuming she is Surprise.

What is with Hasbro and they're inability to translate names from the cartoon or give pony names if they don't have an official one?

That's quite a clever move Hasbro made. This way people won't complain about her name and the cartoon still gets a chance to name them. Then again, they're Hasbro's property and it's a shame it looks as if they're too scared to name them.

Is there some kind of a problem with her show name?

She doesn't have a name in the show yet, as far as I know?

A few people complained about Heartstrings being incorrectly named because they were used to her fanon name; Lyra. Hasbro changed her name to Lyra Heartstrings just for them. I would've expected something similiar to happen with this Wonderbolt.

Not that I mind they called her Lyra anyway, because I really like that name. However, I do think Hasbro is allowed to call their toys whatever they want.

The only Wonder Bolts who have been explicitly named are Soarin

and Spitfire

There's also Fleetfoot, but that's because she "won" the race in Sweet and Elite.

So that's Fleetfloot.

Rapidfire is also a named Wonder Bolt, but we don't know anything about him beyond the fact that he's male.

There's lots of unnamed Wonder Bolts. There's the "Surprise" one we see in this packaging, Spitfire w/o the lighter streak in her hair, for example.

You can see that the middle two ponies are Soarin' and Spitfire, but we don't know who the other 4 are.

So they probably didn't name this Wonder Bolt since she has no real canon name? Or because no one at Hasbro had a name to go off of.

Rainbow Dash doesn't care which Wonder Bolt it is, she'll still be excited to hang out with them, anyways.

I like that Wonderbolt, my headcanon is that she's Surprise. x3

Interesting to see she's just packaged as "Wonderbolts Pony" though. I thought they might give her some kind of random name, like the blind bags.

I'm actually rather surprised (hee hee) at this too.  Not so much that they didn't name the pony but that they put in a random unnamed one instead of either Spitfire or Soarin who have both been named and have even had speaking parts.

Yeah, this is a good point. Curiouser and curiouser...

Wow that is strange of them! I understand they probably are doing it so that the cartoon could give a proper name later if she reappears.

Oh Gilda I looove you. Yay for first non-pony MLP toy since Spike!

But that would require those names to be trademarked. Dunno how hard it would be for them to do so with Soarin' or Spitfire.

I don't see how it would be any harder than "Gilda the Griffon."   If they had to, they could have called her "Spitfire the Wonderbolt pony."

I think she's Surprise too.  Digging any G1 references we can get!

Hmmm...a lot of thought in that one HB.

Maybe they just couldn't be bothered with the fall out if they misnamed her as far as the fans are concerned [i.e. Lulamoon blind bag] - so this way she is a hassle free Wonderbolt pony who each owner can name as they see fit!

I would have preferred them to conjure up something imaginative to call her though! I much prefer my ponies to come to me named!

I'll go with Surprise. :D She doesn't need to be name. Actually she needs to be repainted as Spitfire (which I'm surprised they didn't use??)

Maybe it's for kids to name her what they want. I really like the idea of her being Surprise though.

Won't you feel silly when she takes off her outfit and you see that it's not Surprise, but her identical twin sister Honeycomb?

Haha... that's true! Though I think Surprise is much more of a fitting name for Wonder Bolts... like a surprise comeback or a surprising win ;)

Okay, thank you! Is there just one set like this? I remember seeing a Granny Smith around the same time someone found a Gilda on e-bay... So are there going to be other "theme" sets? :)

Sorry to butt in, but yes, there are more sets!
There are going to be three sets. One for the Apple family, one for Cloudsdale (the one posted here) and one for err.. ''the royal lovebirds''. The last set includes Twilight Sparkle, Shining armor and princess Cadence.

Don't feel bad about butting in, but I was eating dinner and gaming, hence why I wasn't around to quick reply.

But you are right. They're going to ship at the same time. Hopefully if these sell well enough, Hasbro will make more, or at least more unique molds.

I for one welcome the generic wonderbolt. Ideal for army building.

I'm actually excited over these- but forgive me, why Gilda? Does she show up again in season 2? She wasn't a nice character.
I wish there were two Wonderbolts in there, my boys would like  that.

I think it's because of the fans wanting her. And it's cool to see Hasbro doing a non-pony mold.

Why should they only make nice characters, though?    I would’ve loved a Tirek toy!  ;)

I'm not opposed to "villian"  toys, heck my sister and I had Skelator, I meant more of she seemed like someone else said a "throwaway" bratty character who was (as far as I've seen)  in one episode. I didn't see the point of making her into a toy. If they really wanted  some villains, than Discord or that changling queen would make sense to me.

Discord and the Changeling Queen are both 'one time only villains' just like Gilda lol. I don't think there's been ANY antagonist in the FiM universe who has appeared more than once -- except Luna who became a protagonist after her first appearance.

Gilda makes as much sense as anyone else, I think. I'm not sure if they decided to do her because of her being a fan favorite, or just because they needed someone else to be part of a 'Cloudsdale' pack and wanted to make sure there was variety. After all, a pack with two Wonderbolts and a Rainbow Dash (already released many times as a blind bag before) would get complaints about lack of creativity.
