So how many variants of the fashion styling ponies are there? Anyone know a rough estimate of how many of each are floating around and which are the hardest to find? I love the white Celestia and the Luna and celestia without tinsel, the Rarity/Celestia is so pretty too x

I only pay attention to the ones that look like finished ponies - so taking out the few that look like now being confirmed releases I would guess wingless Dash, white Celestia and the Rarity symbol/Celestia hair.
The Luna/Celestia without tinsel are the ones which look to be released in the next fashion waves.
I think wingless Dash tends to crop up on Taobao now and again but white Celestia continues to be illusive and sells out there quickly. I do still think white Celestia will turn up - probably in TRU as a Collectors item but for the moment she is still the most popular of the bunch I believe.

I don't know how many of them but I do know of some;
- The two tone hair :muffin: Pony with bigger eyes
- Winged Rarity
- Wingless Rainbow Dash
- Celesity, Celestia's head on Rarity's body
- Tinsel less pink Celestia, she have different hair I believe comes with/without glitter on wings
- Tinsel less Luna, different hair comes with glitter/without on wings/symbols
- White Celestia
I do possess 3 of them, here's some pics. Both my Luna and Celestia got Glitter on their wings, but I've seen them without glitter too. Surprisingly my Luna got pearly plastic like some G3s did.

From my searches on eBay and Taobao the hardest to find are both of the celestias followed by celestia head on Rarity body. The wingless RD is a little more available on Taobao but not eBay.
Not sure but the Luna without tinsel from Taobao may have hair colors in a different order than the recently announced wedding FS Luna. I can't tell from the pics.
ETA. I have some for auction over in the FS-Auction forum. :)

I think the main difference would be the glitter. Some Lunas and Celestias do not have the body glitter, I'm not too sure about my Luna but if she is the w2 one, then the glitterless will be prototypes.

Yes. I got 2 of the Luna variants from Taobao one has glitter and one without. Now I can't let go of either! :lol:

I would "guess" so...lol...but with HB you never know until they hit stores which way they have gone - yes glitter and no tinsel or no glitter and no tinsel!

Maybe the white Celestia was earmarked as a possible release instead of :muffin: Pony... Maybe Hasbro had a few ideas in mind for the 2012 exclusive... or maybe she IS the pony fair exclusive : )
Yeah, I'm guessing they went with no glitter for the 2012 release or else they may have been too similar?

@teresat: Thank you, if I get a chance for a good shot I'll sure post some better pictures of their cutie marks and bodies for reference. I prefer taking shots outdoors than indoors. :)

Agreed, want the ones that look like finished ponies. I love FS ponies. I don't really even like the look of the Luna/Celestia pack and I got them. They're all too cute.

Like anything on Taobao I wont believe until I see "in box" but I think of the lot Celestia is likely simply because of the amount of sellers who have had her...but as you say its all "we ll see"

I compared her to my other Target exclusive Luna. I'll try to take pics but I'm not sure if it will be captured by the camera.

Wingless Rainbow Dash (may be an unfinished version of a future RD release)
Rarity with Celestia's head and tail (mashup between Celestia and Rarity)
Celestia with Rarity's head and tail (also mashup between Celestia and Rarity)
:muffin: Pony variant (larger eyes, 2 toned hair)
Coming out soon:
Luna with different hair
Pink Celestia with different hair
Cadance (seen her glittery, and non glittery which may just be unfinished product)

White Celestia
The "coming out soon" ponies are not rare for long. Also any of the "glitter variants" with no glitter are likely just unfinished products.
The rarest one is Celestia's body with rarity's head and tail. She has only been sold in 2? listings for quantities of 10 and maybe 20? I forget the second number, but there can't be that many of her floating around. 2nd rarest is possibly the :muffin: Pony prototype. Maybe about 30 or 40 of her have popped up. 3rd rarest is probably the Celestia head on the Rarity body, which is still being sold recently. I estimate around 50 or so of her, but if they keep showing up, that number will go up. 4th rarest is wingless Rainbow Dash, but there are a lot of her out there (100 +) and she is still showing up, too.

I think she is more common on taobao, usually she hides in an auction were they sell other factory errors. I see her from time to time at least.

Yeah, none of them are particularly rare I guess (as all of them have popped up recently, or multiple times), just she seems to be rarer than the others from the amount that we see come from Taobao and Ebay compared to the other variants. Maybe she is less rare now, if you say lots more are showing up.

She is still in very few quantities compared to other prototypes, but more sellers seem to have got her in smaller stocks. But by far :muffin: Pony is the most sought after, second is white Celestia I think.

Yeah I noticed the wings aren't part of the actual mold, so these are just unfinished. Are the wings glued on or is there actually something securing them?

Fluttershy is saved Horray! This whole conversation about her wings really made me laugh! I have my FS Fluttershy here and her wings are stuck on for sure, there is some glue residue around them

According to hanna, there is also some hunk of plastic that apparently gets jammed through their back also keeping the wings in place.

The one I bought the other day that is currently showing up in stores is pearly, however the one sold at Target in the two pack is matte :)

Yep lol. Although honestly the pearl tone really isn't all that obvious on mine and I'd say you have to be looking for it. It's not near as pronounced as it was on the G3 line or on that Fluttershy we saw.

This pearly finish thing is strange... why Luna and not Celestia? It does show Luna pearly on the back of her box doesn't it? And on the back of Celestia'a box she is white! Ha ha

From my pics earlier in the thread, you can see how my Luna has a pretty noticeable pearly finish. I could see it through the plastic wrap too. I squeeed! XD

Here are the prototypes we have all together. I only included the 1 Luna because the other Luna has all the plastic ties in her hair like the ones sold in packages. Curiously, all these ponies did *not* have any plastic ties in their hair when I got them from China.

So I bought a fashion style Luna prototype who arrived recently, she is stunning!
She is the version with no tinsel but glitter on her wings and symbol. I just noticed something odd about her... her head is pearly and her body isn't! So is this standard with this version? I hadn't noticed until today when I looked at her in different light

Speaking of factory errors that got through: has anyone noticed that FS Applejack is the only one of the Mane 6 that is pearly/shimmery? I was just cleaning up ponies and I just noticed that. Are they all like that or did we just get lucky?

@Tersat, thats starange about AJ, I don't have her to compare she is pretty hard to find and I don't think she was released here in the UK... I wonder why?

I've also noticed Applejack is the only shimmery one. I'm not sure why they decided to do that. It's strange, but I'm not complaining. I like the shimmery look.

Yeah that is kinda odd about Aj isnt it? I know the new wedding edition of FS Luna is shimmery.
I wonder why they do that? Of my other ponies the only ones I think are shimmery, and I may haveto go double check this now, are: Apple Bloom, just Scootaloo's head (her body is different) and the Sweetie Belle that came with the Sweets Boutique (the one that came with the Pony School pals is not).

Maybe its just the finish in that particular plastic which makes AJ shimmery...although lets not put it past Hasbro to have purposefully made just one random pony that way. I cant say I have heard people mention that she had a shimmer in the past but maybe its not overly noticeable?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I just wanted to say I think this is a really stunning photo. I especially like prototypes and rarer fashion styles, I like that they're distinct and unfinished, they have a sort of authenticity to them that the final products lack due to marketing - Like white celestia, which is closer to how she was intended to be.

I agree with you Stroggos, some of the mismatched fashion style prototypes are so much nicer than some of the released ponies, I love how unique some of them are. I really love Rarity with Celestia's symbol, the yellow really compliments her hair colour! Wonder if Taobao will get any more FS prototypes...

@Stroggos: Thanks! I hadn't seen a pic with all of them together. I like it too. :) I wasn't sure which :muffin: Pony is the prototype but I think the one I have is very similar to the actual release pony. She had the plastic ties in her hair.
@willa: I stalk Taobao as much as I can (that's not much) looking for more prototypes. I haven't seen any others yet. The FS Princess Cadence popped up briefly but it looked exactly like @SoSilver's pic.
ETA: I really hope there are more Fashion Style ponies. I love the big ponies. They really aren't that big compared to G1s. :)

Just a quick note and shameless plug that I am in the market for an Earth Pony Rainbow Dash, and despite being real cash strapped right now (looking for a new job) I always offer a fair and respectable price, so if ya'll have one and feel like making my day in a month or so please let me know.
I really prefer Rainbow's earth pony pose. It adds some variety to the stock standing of the regular ones

I wonder if the wingless Dashes that we see are in the pose that she was "supposed" to be released in but when manufacture got to the stage of putting the wings on her body the wings wouldn sit right - in that pose her back is potentially too short and her head too far back [by mm of course not anything major] for the wings to sit right.

A question about Taobao... do you think the people who sell on there work in the factory that makes the ponies and they get cheap knockoffs or factory rejects with little flaws (think the USA Hasbro factory used to have a factory shop, isn't that where the tootsie with red hair came from?) Do alot the ponies bought from Taobao have flaws? I was thinking that these prototypes may have been randomly put together from heads and bodies that were left over, then employee's may have patched them up to sell on...
