Title: Your Best Bargain...
Post by: hathorcat on May 22, 2012, 03:30:41 PM
So I am a notorious "over payer" on pony things  ...I genuinely never seem to get myself a bargain...but finally the other day I got luck with a little item which had been eluding me [just a pony princess ribbon!] at a startlingly low price. I think I was even happier to get it because of the price!

So I wondered...who is your "bargain" pony or merch or accessory - who did you luck out on in an auction or a buy it now?

Hm, mine would probably be Wave Jumper and her shell for about 40$, at auction.  I don't think most people looked past the first few pics which were of common pony stuff. Very pleased to have her, since she was the last Y3 adult seapony I was missing.

My best bargain is probably my baby Sweet Tooth I got for about $1. :)

Definitely the MOC/MIB ponies and pony wear I bought recently. The average I paid per item in the lot was $1.60. :p

I got a mint Lightening once in a lot,  he wasn't in the sellers photos.  Needless to say he was a very nice surprise  : )

My best bargain would have to be the G1 Pony Bride MIB for $40.  And of all the places I could've found her, I got her on EBAY.  *GASP*

Now I'm no G1 collector, but I have a major soft spot for bride ponies/love ponies from all generations (I'm a G3 girl, through and through).  Imagine my surprise when I recently saw an auction end for the G1 Pony Bride MIB for the BIN price of $359!!!!!!!  I almost fell out of my chair.  Whether or not she's actually worth $359, I have no clue.  Either way $40 still seems like a bargain to me.   :)

The only time I ever lucked out really well in all my 10+ years of collecting was when I traded G3 Love Wishes (which cost me just shipping and some pony points) for a MOC G1 Fizzy! That was the best deal ever. ^_^

Cha-Cha the llama, Oakly and Cutasarus with a bunch of other ponies for probably around $5.

Nightglider for about .25

Part of the Wedding Prance porcelain (Just Twilight on the base, Moondancer was gone) for probably $1.50.. and Cotton Candy porcelain for under a buck.( And CC fits perfectly in the spot Moondancer's supposed to be in!)

A so soft sleepy newborn for $1

Lots of things. I used to thrift a TON and used to find great things a lot! Pony and non pony.

I've only been collecting for a little over a year, so I haven't found many bargains.  My best ebay bargain would be getting a huge lot of almost 90 ponies for 50+shipping.  Most were in really great condition, and it was an awesome buy for me, since I was just starting to collect ponies.  They came out to like .80 per pony.  I also got just-out-of-the-box condition Baby Rainribbon and Sunribbon for 7 bucks, I love them!

My best flea market/thrift store find was getting the fading-pink-haired version of Italian Cotton Candy for $1.00.

I picked up Diamond Dreams along with nine G3s for $10 at a thrift store.

I thought she was a fakie at first, the Arena collectively facepalmed when I asked who the fakie is in my lot of G3s.

I've not had a whole lot of luck with ebay (I usually spend too much on there :p) but my friend picked up about 60 G1's at the flea market for me for $15. It had Baby Sea Ponies with their floats and even some Lady Lovely Locks Pixie Tails that I've always wanted :D And I got a near mint Diamond Dreams from the thrift store for about $2 :) I didn't like her at the time and stuffed her up in the attic and forgot about her, lol. But I rescued her and I love her now!!

My best deal ... when I found a MIB Rapunzel at a US garage sale for 1 penny!!!!

HAHA... not. (Though I've had dreams like that....)

My best deal was probably done by my sister, actually; years ago she swapped a lot of sea ponies for a minty Mimic, as a gift for my birthday. (Doesn't she rock??)
Ironically, NOW, those particular HTF sea ponies together are probably worth more than Mimic... but it was a great deal back then.

Do gifts count?? I got a MIB Tall Tales as a gift from a very dear friend this Christmas.

I think my best to date was greek baby bowtie in a no picture sale on ebay, for £5 including postage. But others would be spain sugarberry for £20 on ebay, piggies butterscotch 20p, snuzzle 50p... quite a few others... but its not like it used to be anymore!

Gosh! eBay really has been good to you, Glacia! I can't believe some of those absolute steals!

My best bargains were: Barnacle: free and Baby Ribbons & Bows: 5 sek ($.70).

When I was just getting into pony collecting in the late 90s, once in a while a store near me would have "surplus goods" . . . Stuff that they had bought from other stores going out of business.  One time I found four MIB Dream Beauties there for $10 each!  They also had loads of MIB Dance 'n Prance ponies at one point.  But the best was when I found the Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe for $10 and the Perm Shoppe for $15!

Haha Kelly, I almost posted her!  My Sunglider was $65!  She was literally a steal, bent wing and all. Remember how worried we were about the seller?  She turned out to be quite lovely.

No real eBay luck  here (I don't think I've bought a pony off eBay in a number of years)

My favorite finds were:

Baby Princess Sparkle for $0.50 (and she's about as minty as you can get!)
Dream Castle complete w/ box $5  (flea market  & there were a couple of ponies thrown in there too)
No Country Cotton Candy $0.50
Brown My Pretty Pony $1 (she still needs some mane/tail work)

I got Sea pony Sea Mist for 10p from a car boot. Goldilocks and the white valentines baby pony from Currant in a big bag of 30 ponies I paid $4 for at a flea market I went to when I was on holiday in Florida last year.

People tend to give me stuff for really cheap or free at car boots LOL they have ever since I was little. I got given a french Applejack for free. I've also gotten mountain boys for free before. Baby Candy for 20p. I got Prickles the dragon for 5p.

My mum found me a MOC G2 Twins Study & Play which you could only get through a magazine offer in France but I sold them as I really didn't collect G2 at the time and I wanted to get some spending money for my Holiday but I reallt regret it now.  :)

Not My Little pPony but I did once get an original Care Bear Cousins Proud Heart Cat plush for 5p from a car boot a very long time ago. It was absoultly filthy but washed up very nice.

My Sister found a Rainbow Brite Tickled Pink with her dress but missing her booties for £1.
