Hi guys ! I never did rehairing before and I'm sure it will still be a while, but I was browsing around and I saw this BEAUTIFUL cutie around the web:

I don't know who did this or anything, so I am only sharing because she is so wonderful !!
But this got me thinking how you get hair like that, since I never saw a Perfume Puff in person before. I read people use yarn to do these things, but how? Is there a tutorial around from beginning to end on this type of hair? Do you need to dye the yarn or whatever you use?
I am really curious, so please PLEASE help me on this ! I really want to do something like this someday ! :D

i can't remember who did it -- tho she kind of looks like one of tuneful's girls :D
there is a tutorial (on the old arena) http://mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=259062.html

That is sooo cool

I've done a pony using this tutorial too! :) It's a lot of fun - but I think I may have gotten the wrong yarn (alpaca mix instead of 100% acrylic?) because she sheds like crazy!

I tried to follow that tutorial and I had -have- issues. I did get 100% acrylic yarn, but I can't "comb" it to make it puff, it just pulls apart.
-
I've rehaired several ponies with yarn and my tip is to brush it with a slicker brush for dogs.

Sounds awesome, do it.

Could anypony recommend yarn brands and sizes? The yarn in the tutorial seems quite big but I know nothing about yarn so I got no clue on what its size is.
-
I'd recommend Lion brand, size 6.
-
Ah, I love the PP-Ponies.. those customs look awesome! *__*
-
I'd recommend Lion brand, size 6.
Do you use any particular type of Lion? They've got about a million different types!

Yes, that is my Ringlet! hehe. I hope I get the spelling right, but sanadookami did her for me a while back. I forget exactly what she used, though.
Hanna: GORGEOUS WORK, BABY! I want that Applejack!!!! I actually have a Princess Pristina in need of a rehair and she would look amazing like that. Have you ever considered rooting a Monster High like this? I would LOVE to get one like this eventually!

Gaaah! Don't tempt me like that. A Monster High with hair like that would be amazing! I might have to pick one up simply for that purpose :D

THAT is the question! haha! I actually just had a thought. Since the new CAMs are not rehairable, I wonder if a wool afro would cover up that circle at the center of their heads good enough? Hmm. Honestly, if I were to commission one I don't even know who I'd pick! I'd have to give it some serious thought and check out flickr photos of perfume puff MH's for inspiration! *runs off to flickr*
-
Ooooh, I need to steal one of kiddo's CAM heads and try. Witch, cat....one of the boys? Sea monster? Hmmm, this is a tough one.

Seamonster!

Quick thread hijack - I found a bag of wool odds n sods at a bootsale this morning;

Easier to rehair than I thought although I used a needle rather than my rehairing tool. I completely overbrushed her tail though :( but it was pure wool, not acrylic, so guessing the fibres are longer in acrylic wool. I will redo her tail when I can find the same colour wool again, or I might put some light pink in there.

Last night before bed I searched 'Monster High mohair' on flickr and saw soooo many beautiful rehairs! I was practically drooling!

Lemme guess: Bernat Alpaca Natural Blends? I made a blanket out of that a few years back, and it shed more than my cats.

Holy cow, how did you do that?! Do you have magical mind-reading powers?! But yes, I googled the brand, and that seems to be it! (I threw out the wrapper, bad me!) Why would you make a yarn that sheds so much?!
-
Yes! You can make doll wigs with yarn as well

I LOL'D!! Good one! Oh mighty knittly one, what brand wouldst thou recommend for making into poofy pony-hairdos without having them shred apart at the slightest brush?
-
And if it works out, you better let me commission you!!!! HA!
:D No problem! Who do I start with?
I think a Frankie would look awesome!! Especially with black and white hair, she could pull off the real "bride of Frankenstein" look amazingly!!

Hehe, well, if we're posting our poofalicious ponies, here's the ones I've made so far with the very-sheddy yarn I got! I love the process of it, but if I try to brush it too much, I know it's going to shed down to nothing!!

My girrrrl!!! I wanted you to know that this gorgeous girl is the absolute favourite pony in my herd. I don't even want the normal haired version anymore, because she just looks so much better with that lovely, feminine poof<3
I have dreams of doing all of my ponies this way! (or sending them to you, but I see that you are closed)
Have you ever tried Caron Simply Soft? I have quite a bit of that in my hoard... and do you brush it out before rehiring, or after?

I will do rehairs. No problem!

For something like this, stick to 100% acrylic and stay far away from anything that looks even a little bit fuzzy. The fuzz looks cute, but it means that some of the fibers are shorter than the rest, so as soon as the yarn starts losing its integrity (i.e., when you start forcibly separating the plies) those bits are going to lose their grip.

The poofy hair is really cute and silly on some of the ponies! How fun!
