Well, I thought about it, and it's not so crazy...
Have you ever wondered if there were, here in the arena, members like us who are in fact 'Hasbro spies' ?
Our MLParena is a huge, worldwide, well-known MLP collectors forum. Why wouldn't it be possible that some Hasbro's people are members here, just to observe us, to know what we think, what we want, as collectors ?
I mean, we're MLP former customers, aren't we ? We follow MLP for like 25 years, and more, and we still BUY (and now we're grown-up adults, with adult money)
That should be a good part of the market, and probably Hasbro know it.
Some things make me think like that :
Why did we cried out loud for blue, and yellow G4, and 'BAM', they're the next wave, not even one is pink this time !
Why did we loved Lyra in the show, though she was a nameless background girl, and 'BAM' she's real ! What about DJ unicorn ? And Zecora ?
Why did we named the unknown taobao pink unicorn 'Cherry Pie' (which is, we have to admit, a very simple name in front of every other G4 names) when she wasn't released, and had no box or what and 'BAM' she's named Cherry Pie on her box, months later.
Coincidences ?
Or is Hasbro here ?
What is your point ?

Aside from that, I'm not sure.. it could either be that Hasbro have already had a brief on creating a greater colour range of ponies (not all little girls love pink!) and responded with these new toys, and with acknowleding Trixie, DJ Pon-3 and Lyra's names, they are tipping the hat to fans as they did with :muffin: Pony initially, which acknowledges the adult following..
I can't say there's an absolute certainity that the above is the case, though. As we are a huge part of the pony market (the Arena being one of the biggest international collectors forums around!), perhaps they have realised such and taken heed.
I am not particularly concerned.. as long as we get some new ponehs. :silly:

I'd be suprised if someone at Hasbro didn't check up on places like the Arena once in a while, just to get the lay of the land, but spies? No.

Who's Sephora? Anyway, while I think they might read topics on here occasionally, I don't think we're the reason they released Lyra, Trixie, DJ P0N-3, etc. They tend to listen to whoever is the loudest, which is the Bronies. I think they follow other sites like Equestria Daily more than they do the Arena. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you, it's just how it is. Although, they still don't listen to adult fans too much since their child demographic is their main one, which is why we keep getting pink ponies, especially unicorns as well as way too many playsets and accessories. I really do wish they'd listen about us wanting Minty. And while they're at it, it would be nice if the other non-US bonus ponies were released here as well. I don't think there's much we can do about the duplicate bonus ponies or the accessories because that's intended for the little kids, but the other stuff would make sense for them to do.
Oh, and I hope if Hasbro is here, then they at least should know about the poor quality control on the G4s, so hopefully they can fix the problems eventually. And not by sending us old G3.5s as replacements when we send factory error ponies back, either. We know the difference.

Yeah, probably. I wouldn't call them spies. They're probably swingin' by to get a lay of the land, not for any malicious reasons, just 'cause it's good market research. The Arena and the Trading Post are part of the demographic that makes up the core pony purchasers. It'd make perfect sense for them to peruse the Arena and the Trading Post on a consistent basis.

The word 'spy' is maybe a bit hard, sure, but I use it to make a better picture of my idea.

Hey, if I was, Gusty would've been made ages ago along with Surprise, Minty, and Ribbon. XD

Of course they keep an eye on us to make sure we aren't violating copyrights or planning something evil behind their back. ;) Besides if anyone was an insider, they would be signing a contract that prohibits the sharing of information.

You know, I bet there are people checking in here every so often. Seeing some of the new G4 blind bag ponies that are coming out like Waterfire, seem to suggest they know people love her lots.
I think they have been spying more on Equestria Daily though. Evidence! :
1. Trixie and Lyra are aaaallllll over the place there, and voila! They are becoming brushables.
2. Why does Equestria Daily get full spoilers of all new blind bag sets before anyone else sees them? They look like official photos that Hasbro purposely leaked to them, not just something they randomly found on Chinese websites.
We need to drop some more hints: Hasbro, we looooove G1's too and would loooove a set of G1 characters in G4 form :biggrin:

I'd love to see some G1s turned into G4s. I know they've lost the rights to most of the names but they could always..Y'know...Be renamed and have their symbols altered a little bit. ;)

Please can you make sure UK get's the same toys as the USA AT THE SAME TIME AS THEM...I am sick of waiting like 8 months longer than everyone else. There's marketing strategies but seriously only just finding wave one when the rest of the world was already on wave 4 is ridiculous :lol:
Oh and also please do a G1 Minty as a G4.... it's not hard, you just have to slap a few clovers on the butt. I'll be happy then :biggrin:

I know from being a Star Wars collector that the team that heads up that line does read to forums to take the pulse of the collectors. They even had a Q & A that the team would do with different sites although most of the answers were vague as to not ruin the surprises. However this is even a more kid focused line so I don't how much they will cater to collectors if thier kid research tells them differently. One of the things that had the best results was voting polls which forum leaders would compile and then give to the Hasbro team at convetions like the MLP Fair. Keep in mind that any changes they make are about a year out typically although with ponies that might not be as long since they produce the cartoon and use the same body mold over and over.

I just wish they did the Big brothers and mountain boys old style as a 30 year anniversary thing - like they did with the collector pose and rainbow set for 25 years anniv.

I wouldn't be surprised. In a couple of my scrapbooking forums that weren't company sponsored but company focused, the companies confirmed at conventions that they did check the forums.

Someone from Hasbro did say they visit the boards during one of the MLP Fairs (I forget which one.) No doubt they visit both the "old school" collector boards and the Brony boards.
Hasbro, if you're hiring for that position, I could totally get paid to surf the web looking at Pony stuff all day. I'm just saying. :P

It definitely wouldn't surprise me if Hasbro has some staff checking in here and other MLP forums. it's not unusual for companies to mill around the Internet to see what is on the minds of fans of their creations. The same goes for performers having staff look around boards to see what fans would like to have in upcoming shows/concerts. I'm constantly on the look out for what folks want to see happen and then try to do that to some degree. (No I don't mean with Hasbro. I'd love to be a 'scout' for them though)

It wouldn't surprise me if they checked on here periodically since this is a pretty popular and active board. I think they like to see how fans are reacting to their products and what we would like to see in future products. Hasbro may not be the best company but they do have their moments when they take fan suggestions seriously, I mean they are coming out with Lyra and Trixie toys so that alone tells me what they've been listening to what fans say :)
I'm not so sure if any of them are actually active members on here that are constantly spying on us though :lol: probably not :lol:

I don't know about "spies" - but I wouldn't doubt that people from the company may be looking around the various sites getting feedback.
I know many-a-year ago when I was active on the "official" X-files board Chris Carter and various people tied to the show popped in from time to time.

Several of the customizers strongly feel that some real ponies were inspired by customs that have been done in the past. Customizers were doing leg gradients before Hasbro picked up the idea in the G3 line, and the peacock fair pony came out after a fad for making peacock customs raged across the customs board....

P.S. Dear Hasbro, No offense, but you need to have another look at what your Marketing team is telling you. Marketing exclusively to preschoolers and developing lots of playsets/multi-packs when the economy is bad aren't the best way to sell toys. There also needs to be a balance between flooding the market with new singles (as happened with the G3 line), and repeating the same ones multiple times (Core 7, FiM "mane six"). The timing of your releases has also not been very strategic--getting people hyped up about a new line and then not releasing it until right before or immediately after Christmas is not smart! You want your new lines ON THE SHELVES by November, when Mommies and Grandmas start looking for toys. You would have more of my money by now had you done so the past three years, and I'm talking about buying for my kids, not shopping for myself as a collector.

(And I don't mean 'bronies', I mean the real fandom that will stick with them once that fad dies out)

Honestly, I don't think Hasbro does this sort of thing at all, for legal reasons. The reasons you see similarities like that is common source material (and, sometimes, there only being a certain amount of colors combos that look good together). The leg-gradient idea has been around since they made Dream Beauties (and since their rivals made Fashion Star Fillies), it's not really a new idea. And peacocks have always been popular.
Now, a kiwi bird craze struck the customizing board and then Hasbro made a kiwi bird custom, at that point I might get a little suspicious . . . :happy:
