Since I'm old (35), I was sucked in during my youth with the original version, the G1s.
Perhaps not-so coincidentally, that is also my favorite generation.
When I got to my pre/early teens, I quit collecting. I can't remember if it's because I "grew out of them" or because my parents said "ENOUGH already!" Either way, no ponies for a very long time.
It was the G3s that got me back into collecting. :)
-
G1 first and always!
-
At first it was a "family" of purple flocked g1 fakies we played with when I was a kid. And then the g1 plushies and g1 Magic Star (the real ones were reserved for my sisters apparently LOL)
I didnt ever hear of g2, but g3 resparked my interest as an adult, just like you!
-
G1s for me too :) I can't think of a time when I didn't collect them, though after the mid 90s they seemed much harder to find, even at yard sales. I also collected g2s and g3s as they came out :)
-
We came in with the G3 but found out after we started that Thoth's first ponies where actually two G2's! We thought they where fakies till we got involved with the boards.
-
I'm a G1 baby. I had so many as a kid. Those were the good ol days. Ha ha
I'm in love with the 4th generation right now. And thats the generation that I am collecting right now.
-
yepps.. Uk Magic Star, Baby Applejack and Sunlight drew me right in along with the tv-show. I'm starting to feel old.
-
I believe it was the G1s with me that I played with as a kid. Then I grew out of them too as a teen. I went back to them again as an adult the G1s sucked me into the vortex of collecting again.
-
I chose G4 as the generation that got me into collecting. I had G1s as a child but they are long gone and though I feel nostalgic about them, which I suppose is one of the reasons I looked into G4 in the beginning, I no longer have an interest in owning G1s. G4 are the only gen. I currently collect.
-
G1 :) I had some in my childhood (still have), and it was when I came across them in the basement I got curious about their names. Then later I found Twilight in a thrift store.... right around the time that G3s were starting (which most of my collection is due to accessibility), but still G1 that got me started.
-
G4, cause I'm an FiM bandwagoner.
-
G1s forever. I kind of went off them around preteen time and started collecting breyers for many years. Mum and I always bought them at thrift stores and yard sales when we found them though. G2 weren't real ponies in my eyes the first time I saw them. But I did collect nearly every G3 i could get a hold of when they were coming out. I kinda like G4s but I've only bought 2 so far. They are cure but I'm not that enthusiastic about them. If I found them cheap at thrift stores I'd buy them though
-
G1's all the way.
For me, also parents tried to grow me out of MLP's, and for some years I abandoned (almost) all my hunting trips... or in them didn't bought ponies because 'your (insert person close to you) has it already!". With G2's returned full way into collecting.
Bought G3's, but since the core 7 I've been bored of the new ponies... (and with G4's? Still stuck in wave 3 here ¬¬X I only have like 11 ponies =P)
-
Well I mean, I did have G1s first in my childhood, and I guess you could say I collected them (plus, I never did want to get rid of them). But a couple years after G2 I had put all my ponies away for a while. Then I spotted G3s at Wal Mart and was pretty drawn to them - it was neat to see Ponies back in stores AGAIN! So really, I have to say it's G3 that started me collecting. They stirred my curiosity enough to make me look up MLP on the internet, learn about collecting and the whole online community, dig out all my old ponies, and want to keep them out. =)
I have to wonder what would have happened had I not bought any G3s at first...I'm sure eventually I was bound to break down and do it, heh.
-
Well, G1's from my childhood, but as far as actually starting to collect, that would be G4 FiM. At the moment there are only a few G1's i am seriously after, G3's are more of a shelf filler, and not bothering with G2's. G4 is definitely the main gen im collecting~
-
G4, cause I'm an FiM bandwagoner.
Sadly, that's how I started too before I noticed the train stopping at weird stations.
The thing that got me into collection were the blindbags. Mostly because I wanted a Rarity to use as a keychain. Curse them addictive blindbags! lol
-
I grew up with G1 TV show (re-runs in the 90's). As soon as I discovered the toys, I felt a great deal of nostalgia and decided to start collecting!
-

It was the G3s that got me back into collecting. :)
I'm 35 too! And I had the very first pretty pony in '82?. I think my second was Firefly. My 2 little sisters inherited my ponies as I moved on to Breyers. I got back into it when I discovered customizing and got me and my family hooked on FiM (I have a husband and 2 boys). Well, you know how it just snowballs...
-
I was, and always will be a G1 mummy ;) My daughters have some G3's, but truthfully I have no inclination to collect them or the later generations. The G1 thing is both a sentimental and aesthetic thing for me!
-
I was an FiM-only fan for a while. I didn't want to get into the toys, because they'd cost too much! But I did pick up the blind bags of the Mane 6 (minus Fluttershy) when they used to have them at Big Lots. That was all I wanted, then.
But then my boyfriend and I watched the original G1 specials for laughs. Turns out they were awesome. We watched the movie and the G1 show. Then we watched Tales. Then we watched all the G3 specials and Twinkle Wish Adventure; we couldn't get enough pony!
And then we met... her. A lovely G3 Pinkie Pie in almost perfect condition with tinsel like a dream, being sold by a little boy behind a table on the main street in our town for 5 cents. My boyfriend dropped a nickel in his jar, and we ran away home with our first older gen pony in our hands. We set her on our coffee table and stared at her with a "what now?" expression on our faces.
"Billy?" I asked. "What if we just picked up a couple more whenever we find them?"
"OK! They're so pretty!" said he.
And that was the beginning of a beautiful obsession.
-
I was addicted to G1s. They had me hooked and still do! I always loved them, but the G3 line rekindled my love for MLP and I started collecting again :) G1 is still my favorite and they will always hold a power over me :p
-
G1s ! :) From my childhood, and even now I get such a sense of nostalgia when I see them. I just love them.
-
G1s...there are other gens? XD
-
G1 drew me back into collecting because I wanted to get my childhood ones that got thrown away back
-
I was torn on which way to vote, since I had a bunch of G1's in the '80's and loved to play with them as a kid, but for actual 'collecting' (as in buying just to have them and display them lol) it would be the G3's I found as a college student that I fell in love with the brand again.
But my G1's were mine first and foremost, so in the end I voted G1. ^_^
-
For me it started with g4, my crazy friend got me into FiM and I bought Fluttershy when I saw her in a store because she's my favourite character. Later I picked up a Pinke Pie, then my sister bought me a Shine Bright Fluttershy and the rest, as they say, is history XD .
I wasn't really into MLP as a kid, which Mum keeps telling me every time I buy a new pony ("You just weren't interested when you were little, or we would have bought them for you!). I only really got into the idea of collecting non show ponies after getting on the forums and now I'm starting to appreciate other gens and am considering diversifying the herd. :P
-
G1 for me :) I had them when I was a kid and then got back into collecting years later when I went online to look up cleaning and restoration tips and found the Arena :lovey:
-
G2s. Grew up with them and was devastated when the line ended in 2002, and I'm always on the lookout for them.
-
G1 for me too :)
-
Hate to say it, but I'm another one who jumped on the FiM bandwagon. Collect all gens now, but I focused solely on G4s for quite a while.
-
I used to have G1s as a kid. I "grew out of them" and sold them and then started collecting them about 6 years ago.
-
G1 for me too! When I finally got an apartment with my boyfriend (instead of student housing) my mom brought over all my old things that had been stored at my parent's house. I was super excited about getting my ponies back and decided to display them. Then I went on the internet, discovered there was a VERY active market for MLP and... the rest is history :P
-
G2's are the first ever ponies I've ever owned, but I always loved G1's as a child as well, finding them at the market and such. The came when I was about 9-10 when my step-sister was playing with some G3's. I thought I was too old for ponies, but I didn't care. I collected G1's from eBay and G3's from the shops. Then when I got into High School, I was assured that I would get made fun of for liking ponies. So I stopped. Then comes 5-6 years later, when I found someone posting a strange looking pegasus with :muffin: Pony eyes. I commented saying 'this really reminds me of My Little Pony', and my friend replied, 'it is My Little Pony, it's called Friendship is Magic.' so then I looked it up and found all the aired episodes on YouTube. I enjoyed them so much, it made me get out my old G1's I couldn't bear to part with. Of course Masquerade was still there! And since then, my collection since last year has grown by over 1000%!
-
G2 here.
I did had G1 ponies when i was very young and i really loved them. However i was too young in those days to actually "collect" them. I don't even remember how i got them.
It was G2 that got me really collecting. One day i got a G2 pony as a gift and that pretty much started everything. : D
-
I am old enough for it to be G1s as well that I had as a little girl. However even a couple of decades later it was G1s that roped me back in again when I had a yearn to find my old toys and, having found them no longer living tucked away in the loft, I headed to ebay just to buy that one pony, Cotton Candy - I was of course only ever going to have just one or two ponies...
-
G2s here. I'm too young to have had G1s during my childhood... but I fondly remember G2s. It was a little weird seeing some G3s later on and I thought they were rather chubby, but I liked them too.
-
Well... I became a fan of MLP through FiM, but when I started looking at the toys, I immediately liked G1 better. My first real pony was Heart-Throb, so really, it was G1 that got me into collecting.
-
g3's got me looking into G1s! I grew up in the era of G2 but I used to think they were odd looking!
-
It would have to be G4. I think Rarity is the first pony I got since my childhood in fact after I joined here and being on the board got me into pony collecting.
-
For me it's really a tough question. I had a couple of G1 ponies in my childhood (plus one G2 that my sister got for her birthday), which I decided to keep, because they were dear to me. But after I entered my teenage years I hadn't really thought of collecting them for real.
Though I admit that I had been tempted to do so on more than one occassion. First time was when I saw the G3 figures - I liked them very much, because they're shape reminded me very much of the original ponies I used to grow up with (I don't like G2 as much, because to me they seem just weird and slightly creepy - no offence G2 fans). But I didn't buy any, because for one they were too expensive for me back then, plus I didn't want my parents to make comments about me spending cash on toys.
Second time was when I started collecting Transformers figures. I've been thinking about getting myself some ponies to expand my collection - especially after I dug up my old, childhood herd. But then I decided to hold back yet again.
And third and final time was when I started to watch "Friendship is Magic". My interest in the franchise was rekindled and my nostalgia returned: and thus I began to collect ponies.
So you can see it's really a mix. :)
-
My first ponies were g2 because that's what was in stores when I was little. I ended up finding g1s in thrift stores sometimes, but I never even knew they were the same back then because g2 and g1 look so different. I just knew they were horses and I liked 'em! I don't think I have any childhood ponies left, but I do have a lot of my childhood breyer horses. Maybe I'll dig around stuff when I move back home and see if I can at least find one lonely survivor. XD
-
I had a lot of G1 MLP as a kid (I even had Paradise Estate, and yes,... I'm a guy...) So I'll always have a soft spot for the G1's. However, the majority of the G1's "don't do it" for me anymore, 25 years later. I'm still in love with the wingers, I do continue to hunt down truly mint twinkle eyes and ponies in the Fizzy pose, but that's about it.
I enjoyed G2, but only for nostalgic reasons. I was tickled about seeing my childhood toy return, but I couldn't embrace them entirely because of their drastic change in look and their expressionless faces.
I love looking at pics of the G3s!! They're sooo close to G1, so they kinda get to me, but not enough for me to collect them. I am hunting down *some* G3's because they get to me in some obscure and uncontrollable way. Wondermint and Periwinkle, for example, have that bizarre effect on me that other G3's don't have. The only thing I miss with G3's, is the gentle puppy-dog eyes from G1. If all G3's had this, I'd be all over this gen. Sadly enough, most of them just look too perfect 'n happy for me.
G3.5.. Not even going there....
G4's.... I love 'em, to bits!!!! They are so far gone from my childhood G1's but still... It's the near anime style that gets to me. The only thing I'm extremely annoyed about, is the ABSOLUTE LACK of different poses. It's what might make me turn away from these little critters in the end... :( Interest for the same-old-same-old can only be held for so long.
I'd love to hear from people with my ideas on the different gens.
-
I had G1s as a child, but it was a combination of Friendship Is Magic, ambien, and eBay that got me into collecting. I collect G1s, G2s, G3s, and G4s, but it's been a year and my focus is slowly narrowing to just G1s...nirvanas in particular.
-
My sister and I had MLP when we were kids. I don't remember which ones we had for sure, but I had Seashell, Moonstone, and Baby Cotton Candy. She had Parasol and Baby Moondancer. We each had one of the big plush ponies too, and I know we had more than that.
But we didn't stay into ponies too long, I don't think (but I do remember enjoying the cartoon show and all). We wound up donating the ponies at one point, and a while later, I missed them. :(
I didn't get back into ponies until G4, though. My best friend (another G1 kid) was telling me about how great the new show was, and I got hooked. :)
I didn't plan to collect, though. I only had Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash for months, until my husband told me "we're getting all of these, because otherwise you'll regret not having them". So we have all the mane 6, the princesses, the CMCs, and a few random ponies I just liked the colors of. And a handful of blindbags. And a Twilight Sparkle army...
-
The G1's will always be my favorite =)
-
I had G1s as a kid and totally had pony envy of my cousins who always had way more pony stuff than I did. Like the castle and sea ponies. I just had a few of them.
I remember when Ebay first came out, I considered getting back into collecting, but I was still too young to have an account.
Now, it was actually customizing that got me back into ponies and started me onto collecting both G1s and G3s.
-
G1!! My very first pony was Applejack way back when mlp first came out. (well actually my first pony was the brown my pretty pony but didn't know she was MLP until I started collecting again) Anyway I collected G1 until I was 14 or 15 where I stopped actively collecting and put my modest childhood collection in storage. I remember seeing G2s in the store and thinking what in the world did they do to MLP? I didn't realize it was a separate generation. I would still pick up the odd MLP here and there that I found at thriftstores. Around 2000 I got my first computer and access to the internet.. one day I got curious and did a search for MLPs to see if I could find any information on them or their real names, stumbled upon Dream Valley and then the Trading Post and was totally rehooked! I was mainly a G1 collector with a few G2 that I'd found. and I have added the rest of the generations as they came out. Well I consider myself a mostly G1 fan as they are by far my favorite. I collect anything and everything MLP. and as such I'm more of a collect what I happen to find for a good deal. Which lately has been the G3s that are being replaced by the G4s. ;) I buy very few new ponies and when I do I leave them MIB. I'm not to picky about condition as long as I don't have the pony it goes into the collection and I upgrade as I find a better condition one. All the little 'flaws' are just a part of the ponies history. :)
-
I feel like such an oldie, liked g1's as a kid, loved them even more as a teenager, and completely addicted as an adult!!
-
g1 for me :) I started loving mlp when I was little after seeing the g1 movie, and now I'm into it again after re-watching the g1 series. And of course g1 is my favorite gen :)
-
 G1 will always have my heart
-
I started my collection when I realised that I wanted to find my lovely Tickle (the only one My Little Pony I have had when I was a child) and thanks internet I have found one in lovely condition. And then I discovered the others G1 and I felt in love!!!! ;)
-
Since I'm rather young at sixteen, it's G4s for me.. thanks to a wonderful and inspirational nurse. :lovey: But now I wish I was an 80's child.. lovely G1s!
-
G1. I lost my collection over the years and it was also a G1 pony that got me back into collecting, as Hippity Hop was given to me by a friend.
-
Well.. I grew up with G3's but G4's got me into collecting.. :I
-
The Original, first ponies I owned were Moondancer and Firefly.
-
gen one got me stated when i went to a day care when i was 3-4 years old i do remember they had a flutter pony and some others in a carrying case. I loved them at first sight , i still like some of the gen 3, 4, and maybe some in gen 2 will catch my eye.
-
I'm "old" too, so it all started with the G1's. They are my favorite <3
I never really stopped collecting TBH. I love me some ponies.
-
I remember playing with ponies in kindergarden, and I think they were G1s! :lovey: But the first pony that started my collection was a G3 because no other MLP generations were around when I was a kid!
-
While I had just one or two G1s as a kid (my main love was Pound Purries and LPS) I never really got into pony collecting until I found a G3 in the toy bin at a laundromat and bought it off the owner on a whim. While I was telling a friend of mine about the pony, she told me about her old pony, which reminded me of the old pony I used to have.
-
G1 as I grew up with them. g2 came out when I was in high school and I just kept on collecting.
-
I loved the G1 shows when I was little, but I never knew they made toys from the show, so I never had any. My first toys were the 3 McDonalds G2s and I started collecting when the G3s came out.
-
G1 has always been and will always be my favorite. :) I would still be collecting right now...if I actually had money. :/
-
I really started collecting ponies hardcore when Generation 3 came out. I had a few G1 ponies when I was a little kid, but I didn't collect them as much as I did in college. I remember picking up StarCatcher when I was shopping for college dorm room supplies and from there my need for ponies grew into a huge collection. Now I have a 30 gallon tub full of G1, G2, and G3/G3.5 and then a 10 gallon tub for G4 which they are already beginning to outgrow, a box for Ponyville, and another tub for accessories. I also have a castle, the stable, and some other buildings. The ponies are taking over....not like it's a bad thing.
-
G1, cause I'm old school. XD I proudly love all gens, though.
-
I had g1s as a child, they are my favorite gen and the bulk of my collection. :)
That said. . . it's probably actually g3s that started my collecting, as it was a gift from my best friend (g3 Merriweather) that got me into collecting ponies at all. From there, I decided Merriweather needed a friend (Silver Glow) and then I decided to look up g1s on ebay and then it all snowballed from there. :)
-
I had a small family of g1's as a kid, but I never technically 'collected' them. What got me into collecting last year were g4 ponies, some friends I play final fantasy xiv with were spamming pics of them, and it caught my interest. That got me into looking up the show, and g4 characters, and then I looked up all the names of my childhood ponies. My browsing led me to the arena, and here I am :P
So while G1's will always be my favorite, I owe my collecting to G4s :) I now have most available G4s and a growing collection of G1s :D
-
G1! The End of Flutter Valley was my most favourite movie as a child and Peach Blossom was my very favourite pony (and still is).
I got back into it when I was having a nostalgic moment a few years ago and decided to look for my favourite childhood possessions on eBay. Back ever since.
-
would be the few of my child hood G1s that got me started :P
-
G1's definetly. I got my first at age 1 (I know, great age to give a kid dreamcastle - I'm still amazed it's not in 100 pieces) and they were always my favourite toy and the only thing I wished for (except for real pets and a real horse). At age 10 I had around 60-70 ponies and also started buying them over the internet.
They're the onlyl generation I truly ever collected. The others I got for the "aww cute" factor but never cared to learn about them.
-
G1s for me. They were my childhood toys and MLPs have always been with me since, plus having three daughters makes sure that the collecting will continue for many years to come. :silly:
-
G2 is my favorite, but I guess it was actually G3 that got me into collecting.
When I first started lurking on the MLP Arena, I told myself I was just gonna look at ponies and draw them and stuff, but not actually collect them. Then I bought the Junko Mizuno pony, even then I told myself that she was going to be the only one in my collection, buuuut then I figured out how to buy stuff on ebay and the rest was history |D
-
I had G1 as a kid, but sold them so others could play with them (I blame Toy Story, haha). I found another one at the thrift store and felt such an attraction to it that I bought her (I haven't collected anything before that and reasoned that I'd clean her up for my daughter). I then bought a lot of ponies off Kijiji that I intended for my kids, and 16 of them were G1's... with 1 G2, and the rest (about 35) G3's and loads of accessories... so I will stand by the G1's got me started since it was that one I found... Whizzer... I looked her up and saw the loads of G1's out there, and looked up my childhood 4 to try repurchasing them through ebay (I have them all again now... sigh, nostalgia). I actually have loads of G4s now too, haha. I love them all.
-
it was G1 that got me started, sadly since i was so young i cant remember which was my first pony :( i think ima bug the parental units and see if they remember but i doubt they will. lol i can predict the answer: i dont know they all look the same. =P maybe tehyll at least remember the colors and i can narrow it down. but yeah i was collecting heavily as a kid (had prolly about 50 or so, which was a lot since we didnt have much money) and id always watch out for them at garagesales and antiquestores since. went into a collecting lul in middleschool (cept for the occasional garagesale find) then ebay reignited it in highschool something fierce lol i hoarded my lunchmoney and starved myself and gave the cash to a friend with a list hahaha after highschool went thru another lul (no real access to ebay and sales were slim) kinda didnt like the g2s but was happy to see them comin back, sorta. bought a few g3s (tho they might have been 3.5s, im fuzzy on the differences) but they werent the same. cute but not quite my thing.
long story short, im always collecting g1, and tend to go into a frenzy for them periodically.
-
I found out about ponies at gen2 and started to really collect them at gen3
-
The toys, it was G2 for me. I was never a fan of 'girly' toys, but something stood out for me, ironically. Perhaps the accessories, as I had a soft spot for them.
But overall, it was the G1 cartoon that sparked my interest, particularly Sweet Stuff and the Treasure Hunt which I had on VHS. I watched that more times than I can remember :P
-
Hands down, G1. They're what I started collecting with as a little girl, and not surprisingly, they just so happen to still be my favorite. It was the small collection of G1's, fakies, Breyers, and Fashion Star Fillies that go me through some seriously hard times and family problems growing up.
-
When I started, I bought a few of the G4 ponies, but really wanted to buy my favorite childhood ponies. I already had a few that a friend had given me stored away at my parent's house. Once I retrieved them, bought my first few childhood favorites... it was all downhill from there! It was really kind of G1, because I probably would have stopped at the Mane 6 if it weren't for loving ponies as a little girl. :)
-
G1, all the way! I got my first pony in '83. The 500 in my basement are all that original Cotton Candy's fault.
Elf
-
I'm another fan of generation one. I also had all the generation two ponies released in the U.S. My dad donated my ponies behind my back because I was "to old" for ponies. My sister and I bought one of the large creepy baby ponies in generation three. I bought several more of them before the G3 line ended. Last year I found Friendship is Magic. I have a lot of G3 and G4 ponies, but my favorite generation and toyline is generation one.
-
G1 first and always!
This!
-
I started with G4. I had a few G3s as a kid (I think?) but I really didn't get any MLPs as a kid.
So I started collecting after I got into the G4 show and realized I liked G1 as well.:D
-
I collected the G1's from early child hood and still have my favorites.
-
I know I had at least a couple of G1s when I was younger, but hardly remember which :(
I got into collecting back in 2004 with the G3s, and amassed quite a collection of G1s and G3s. I've been out of the game for a few years now, and the G4s look so different to me! But still lovin all MLPs (:
-
G2 ^.^
-
Yeah it was G1's for me cause I'm an 80's kid!
-
Can't recall posting here... but started out with G4, and have grown a liking to some previous gen stuff.
-
I think I may have had some G1 or G2 ponies as a young child, but they got lost years ago. :(
The G4 ponies pulled me into collecting though. (and if I can get a job soon, the other gen's might just be finding their way into my collection as well)
-
My first G1 ponies when I was a little girl started it all but I started up collecting again after I saw the G1 My little pony series that they have in a box set. It brought back all the memories of loving to play with them. They were my favorite toys. I started collecting again around the 3rd year of G3, so that gen. grew on me too and I collected them as well and now G4 too.
-
G1s :)
-
G4 is definitely the gen that got me into collecting. Why? I finally make my own money, and I am done school. The Friendship is Magic Show was a gentle reminder of "Hey, you love ponies!" That combined with moolah sparked the lovely idea of "Hey, I can actually buy what I want now!"
Now I am stuck being nostalgic and buying myself all of the 80's and 90's toys I wanted, but didn't have as a kid.
-
The first Generation! When I was a kid I watched the My Little Pony and My Little Pony tales, and even tried to drew them back then...*sigh* Memories!
-
G3 Generally because I was born 1991. Sometimes I wish though I collected them when I was little just so I would have those child hood memories. I was scared of pink back then.
I got great child hood memories though. Mostly involved in electronics but a huge chunk was Spyro the purple dragon. I still love him to death
-
The G3s drew me in. I was so young though, I wasn't crazy about them, and I didn't even own any, but they were the only types of ponies I knew about, and I only knew about them because we had these MLP coloring and activity books. Even though my first pony was Dainty Dove, it was the G3s that drew me in later, because at the time I didn't think that Dainty Dove was a MLP! She was WAY too skinny, and there were jewels in her eyes, and she just looked plain weird to me. Lol.

g1 every time :D
my grandparents bought me shy pose applejack and she started the addiction. i guess it seemed like the obvious choice to a family of a horse-mad little girl to buy her plastic ponies. we just didnt have much money back then, not that we do now, lol, but you get my drift ;) and it carried on from there for several years, a dream castle, lullabye nursery, show stable and waterfall later and then things seemed to go downhill and my folks told me in the late 80's at about the time the uk mountain boys came out :enraged: that i was ''too old for ponies'' :whoa: so i had no more, crycrycry...
i always kept them at the top of my wardrobe and my room has always been MY TERRITORY and i'm hiddeously over-protective of my stuff :P so nobody got the chance to throw them out. thank God :satisfied:
then i really got into collecting in about 2004, found ebay, found this place, found a love of nirvana's and then for some strange reason that i stil cannot expalin, i found a hole in my credit card balance AND my bank account :silly: most strange
so yes, tiz g1 for me and it'll never be anything else

I started liking MLP after I watched FiM. Then I started collecting G4 toys, and now I collect all generations.

Well, I'm from the G2 era, and growing up I owned about two of them. I'm rather upset I haven't got them anymore. I do still have two G2's given to me by my sisters from when they were little. They gave me them when I first got into FiM and kept talking about ponies. G4s still weren't available here at the time. So, basically, though I wanted G4s, I ended up with G2s. Now I'm open to all generations including fakies. Though I probably wouldn't pay store prices for G3.5, but if I found them in a charity shop or on sale I might pick them up.

G3 was my childhood generation that got me started. :) Kind of like UnicornTamer, G3s were really all that I knew of MLP for a while. I remember begging my grandparents for a pony (my first, Tink-a-tink-a-too) at a grocery store, and just taking off from there. I was so wrapped up in MLP that I actually still have pictures of my growing collection, one of which is a professional photo of me at the age of three clinging to a G2 McD's French Sundancer (I just wouldn't let her go ;) ).
I never really knew about MLP's history (the fact of the devided gens) until 2008, after I my family moved across the country and I started to pay more attention to my collection. Now I know so much about the gens and how MLP came to be that I recently wrote my school essay assignment on the history of ponies (almost entirely from my head) :P
As for favorites, I don't know if I have one (I think G1 and G3 are tied), but I do my best to give each and every one the love they deserve ;) I really do appreciate G2 (I think they're very elegant) and G4 (the show got me hooked, even though I wasn't so sure about the drastically changed style at first), but if I were to pick a least favorite gen (now, mind you, I don't hate them), it would be G3.5. They remind me of fish. XD
So, I'm a G3 girl all the way--over 75% of my collection are G3s, many of them from when I was a young girl. ^.^

I had some G1s and G3s (I think I still do actually!) but G4 is what brought me back into it and that's the only gen I really collect now. But if I ever see a G1 pony I really like I'll probably buy it.

I had 2 G1s as a child, but didn't really get into collecting until the G3 range came out, it started with Thistle Whistle and my collection grew to include G1s as well. So, G1s were my first ponies, but G3s started me collecting.
