To me, color didn't really matter when I was little. I didn't care if the pony was pink or blue :p The ponies I wanted most were the Twinkle Eye ponies (I was sooo into jewels and sparkly things, still am, lol) And I also wanted ponies that I saw in the cartoon series. Even though I thought BBE ponies were kinda scary, I treasured my Baby Lickety Split and Baby Lofty! My poor Lickety Split had rusted eyes, tail rust, and fried looking hair, but I loved her because of her role in My Little Pony the Movie.
I thought of this because of the pink Princess Celestia. To me, even as a kid, having the pony look like the character on tv was so much more important that having a girly colored pony. Pink just didn't matter to me :p

i lOVED the flutter ponies!! from the cartoon AND the toys!!
they were just so lovely and graceful and slender in the show
and then the toys, i just ove the poses and iradescent wings... anything sparkly right?! :)
whats funny is as a collector i cant stand flutter ponies.... never owned one in my collection... ever
go figure!
i also remember liking the pearly MO babies my neighbor had, and TE's :)

The perfume puff ponies, cause I had frizzy hair and so did the ponies :silly:
Most of the older G1 ranges I grew up with, so those were what I saw in shops. And I thought all the special features on them were awesome.

Baby ponies, I loved baby ponies! Especially if they had rainbow hair :lovey:

My twin sister was crazy about TE's too! XD Her favorites was Fizzy and Galaxy.
For me it was all about yellow pegs! I loved all yellow ponies, and Applejack. But Lofty was my big time favorite!

Haha Rel, me too! I was so into Flutters as a kid until they decided to make wingers. It was pretty much all over for me then :P I was literally obsessed with them and tried so hard to get my hands on a Lady Flutter. Sadly, she never arrived in my childhood herd, but I have more than made up for it now. I have just recently started collecting flutters again, but I don't have the same passion for them as I do wingers.
As I kid, my friends and I loved Firefly and Applejack! Maybe it had something to do with the movie. Actually, I was just at a bridal shower on Saturday night, and my friend noticed my winger cell phone case! She told me that she still has all of her childhood ponies stored away in the basement of her parent's home. She is my friend who just lost her mom, so I'm hoping that when she is feeling up to it, her and I can go through her old box of ponies and remember our childhoods! Wow, what a wave of beautiful memories just hit me:) Thank you sweetie for starting this terrific thread!

Rainbow anything was me. So... definitely the rainbow ponies! Thing is... I wasn't born until 10 or so years later :p

I was just happy with who ever my mom and I could find at the thrift store.

From what I can remember, my childhood collection was a little random. Most were gifts and a couple I'm sure were second hand but out of the 7 or 8 ponies I had I remember 3 having fruit symbols (and I lean towards those now somewhat) Cherry Treats and Strawberry Surprise are the only ponies I vaguely think I might have picked out myself at the store. So I'd guess fruit ponies were my favorites.

I remember having more neon-coloured ponies as a child. I always went for the brightly-coloured, typical '80s neon ponies. I never had sets, or ponies that were exclusive to sets. When I was young, my mom would give me about $5 every Friday (her pay day was my "pay day"), so I'd always get what I could for those $5 lol. Me? SAVE my money? HA! XD

I was not a pony collector as a child but I have no doubt I would have gone for the so softs - who doesn't love a fuzzy pony? :)

I was there to experience the magic of the 80s and original MLP. I have very clear memories of what I liked. With Year 3, it was all about BABY PONIES. I still remember the commercial coming on and seeing Baby Cotton Candy in it. I had to have her (and I got her). I also loved the ponies w/ curly hair from that year, although now I don't like curly hair that much b/c I liked combing pony hair, and curly hair is better off left alone.
I was always an accessories nut, so I liked BBE babies b/c of the high chairs and wagons. I also loved the newborn twins when they came out. Funny now I'm not that into baby ponies!

I loved the TEs, So Softs, and all of the babies. I also flipped when the newborn twins came out! I loved them, and their accessories!

I just remembered I was crazy over unicorns. I was so jealous when my sister and I went to the flea market and she snatched up Fizzy and Galaxy before I did. I was so jealous! Unicorns and TE's are my favorite to this day. That's why I so desperately want Mimic. She's gorgeous!! *wants*

I didn't really care what pony I got when I was little. I loved and wanted All of them. Hehe.

The only one I remember picking out was my Remco. I don't like and never have liked toys with a lot of parts and features. Features and frill makes it too busy and messy in my mind. I like more simple, well-defined things. I wouldn't have liked flutters at all. I used to cut parts off my vintage puppy in my pocket toys, say if they were molded to a pillow or molded with a bone in their mouth. I still remove McDonald's ponyville ponies from their bases.

Well, I remember I loved everything from the show, sadly there were almost none of them available in my town when I was a child. What I dreamt of was part of the TV show, so I would have bought ponies like the Flutters, Wind Whistler, Magic Star, Truly ... but I had no chance to get them here. So I was after all ponies with curls and yummy symbols. And everything with rainbow design... unicorns too, in general!

awwww, I would have been in Heaven if I was you back then, Hathorcat! I wanted Rosedust too, but Flutterponies were not available here. I would have given my arm for Morning Glory too, and Honeysuckle... <3 awww, those memories of watching the movie over and over again. I tried to pretend that my Sugar Apple was a long lost Flutterpony ancestor back then, because she had wings lol.

Baby ponies were always my favorites, especially the newborn twins. I had three sets of them as a kid, and would have loved to have more. *chuckle* Not surprisingly my only big playset was the Lullaby Nursery. Not sure why they were my favorites, I guess because they had loads of fun accessories that most of the adult ponies didn't.

Must be ponies with a vibrant color cuz my child hood ponies are Snowflake, Tropical Sea Breeze and a Baby Explorer (also a fancy pants baby starburst) :D
But I can't remember why I wanted these.

I dug out my old ponies a couple of months ago and I realised that they were all purple, pink or blue. Two are white but they have pink and purple symbols and hair. The main exception is Lemon Drop but she came with the Stable so I didn't choose her ... and she has purple hair so she fits in with the others anyway.

Aww, I'm jealous... I wish I had grown up with ponies! Of course, considering my age, I would've had G3, but still. I didn't get into them until last year. :(

I think I just went after any I was allowed to get with my 5 dollar allowance. There were some ponies I couldnt get like baby newborns or different playsets ect. We didn't have alot of money in those days. So I couldnt get every pony I saw.

But I rarely got to pick my ponies. They were usually gifts so I was happy with anything I got. But the unicorns were always my favorites.

I always got whatever I knew I didn't have :) I still do that today actually.

I honestly don't think I cared much; I did not receive many ponies as a child. Must've been a sucker for pink or that's what whichever parent choose (I had 10 ponies growing up and 6 of them were pink-bodied).
I really liked the sparkly one (Napper) and the one that glowed in the dark (bright glow)... go figure...

I was happy with any pony I received. But I do remember that I particularly loved and wanted the mommy and baby sets! (I'm still partial to them or any ponies that are close enough looks wise to be a family) I had mommy and baby Ribbon and Mommy SS Fifi and baby Fifi. as well as a few other sets :) I remember wanting a baby for Applejack and Dancing Butterflies, I wanted them so badly!! Baby Applejack was one of the first ponies I actively went after when I started collecting as an adult. I still want baby Dancing Butterflies (has her price dropped any? last I looked she was in the $60 - $80 range :( )

I was always partial to unicorns too, and I would pick a fav from each group and try to get her. Even back then I was already a serious and picky collector; I took everything into account when choosing my favorites. Things like matching colors, even the name. So stuff like the TAF babies bugged me because they didn't match the species of their moms. I would have loved a baby for Milky Way if she had been a unicorn!

I went for the blues. I also went for the ponies that smelled. Since I juts started getting back into MLPs, I'm not sure if they had a name for them. I also went for the sparkly ones with glitter.

that would have to be the first ones i spotted which were the first 6 flat foot ponies, i wanted them so badly, i was so happy to finaly get a CP pony when the alt birthflower ponies hit the stores over here, i was so in love with the Collector pose BUT that was alittle later on.
after wanting minty, snuzzle, butterscotch etc i missed out on them by the time my parents came about buying me one, when i check the toy shop they were replaced by.......GLORY AND Co, so my next big love was glittery symbol ponies :heart: unicorns, pegusas and rainbow ponies :inlove:
they were so differnt, so fancy, flashy and more fantasy looking.

Me too! :D But I liked fantasy ponies - unicorns, pegasi, flutters, and BABIES! I felt I should have way more baby ponies than adult ponies for some reason. Poor Tex was the only boy besides Lucky for a LOOOOOONG time in my herd! LOL

When I first got into playing with them, it was early in the G3 years and I thought that only earth ponies existed. So as much as I would've totally gone for the pegasi and unicorns, I didn't think they would ever exist, with the one exception being Star Catcher. (Also, at that age, I thought these ponies were a new thing; I never knew that they started in the 80's and went from there. Heck, just last year, I figured out that my Sky Skimmer was a G2!)
Colors usually were what drew me in. I was a pink-obsessed girl but I always wanted variety in my ponies. Still, I'd always use my spoiled-rotteness to make my parents buy me every pony we found. :P I was so bad... Also, I apparently had a thing for glitter ponies (despite hating glitter), because I have all but two of the original glitter ponies...

Since I'm a G3 baby I wanted the limited edition ones like Autumn Sky, Sno' el and all of them.
