Does anyone own one? (Not fakies, the real ones) Were they even ever sold?
-
I don't, but they are basically Japanese MLPs. Takara got the rights from Hasbro to localize and distribute some of their products and thus their version of ponies was born ^^
I actually don't like Takaras one bit, but I know I'm in the minority on this one :P

Takara's are generally talked about in Nirvana. Here is a guide about telling the real from the fake ones!

I just learned about these yesterday! I want one so bad it hurts my heart, they're just so gosh-darned adorable... But I know it will probably never be.
-
There were also adult Takaras, those ones above are just the babies. While there are fakies of the babies there are no fakies of the adults. However someone has made blank replicas that are really close in shape although they are not the same size as the originals.

Best link, emery!
If you follow the link emery has posted that should tell you pretty much everything I think the community is aware of with these funky little cuties!
-
These are indeed sooo cute, MrPony made some replicas of the adults, did you ever see them? Take a look at the customs forum, they are adorable and they're for buying ;)
-
There are a handful of us arena members who are lucky enough to own Takaras,
I have 3 MIB takara adults and one adult Takara that is loose in my collection.
They are insanely hard to come by but adorable and very addictive. They have their own clothing line
and the outfits are just amazing. Check out the nirvana gallery for photos also..
Both adults and babies were made. A lot of the fakies are easy to come by. The real babies are very hard to come across.
Banditpony has the original baby set.

WHAT!? I had heard that the babies were never officially made by Takara! So you're saying there actually ARE real Takara babies out there!? Oh, man, I wish I could have one. How much does it normally cost to get a Takara pony? Is it about standard Nirvana price or way, way more? And there aren't even that many of them around, are there? That's really sad if it's true...
-
They have fetched some of the highest prices in the nirvana world as of late. They are super sought after and only a handful have surfaced over the years.
They were only made for one year and production halted. Yes there are real takara babies. As I said banditpony has the original set, and a few others have turned
up here and there but not many.

I have one :) She is the gem in my collection - I just love them!
-
ahhh I want a takara. Hopefully one day I can get my hands on one.
Thanks for the links and pictures! I actually wasn't aware of the adults, only the babies. The adults look even cuter to me, with their little outfits. ;w;
-
hehe I was just coming to say Banditpony and Ember1 have amazing Takara collections :dribble: I would love to find one at a bootsale or something
-
I'm not a fan of them at all... I think they are ugly *dodges fakies* but undoubtedly very rare and sought after (so I def wouldn't leave one behind if I saw it at a boot sale I'd sell it and buy a pile of other nirvanas to swim in hehe)
-
They are SOOO cute! I wish they were more common and thus easier to collect. ; ^;
I have a whole bunch of fakie babies, but not the real deal yet. I just cannot justify the price.. Buhu.
Whenever I am in Japan I search thrift stores and used toy stores for them, and most of my friends are instructed to look for them as well, but I have yet to find one. BUT I WON'T GIVE UP! LOL! :D

Do you have to go to Japan to find them? How much do they usually cost?

I think "most" of them have turned up through Japanese auction sites and other Japanese sources - after all they were only ever sold and for a very limited time in Japan. So you maybe dont have to go to Japan but for those not currently in the hands of collectors I would guess if and when they show up its most likely they ll be in Japan.
I dont know how much recently they have changed hands for because they would have been personal transactions but I would guess on the open market on ebay you would be $1000 plus region and goodness knows how much more for MIB items
-
I think i have one of those fakies. It's red-ish with yellow hair. I really don't have any clue about the gal :P

That's an awful lot of money. I will never own a Takara. Not unless I win the lottery.
Oh well, a girl can dream, can't she?

The fakies I believe are more around the $30 mark and they are super cute!

Yeah... I don't usually like fakies much.... but I might make an exception for those little cuties. They really are adorbable. Still, $30 trumps the most expensive pony I ever bought (I spent about $26 on a UK Starlight). So.... I'd still put that on my "maybe someday" wish list.
