Title: New pony room, a work in progress. Lavender dream castle edition :)
Post by: drusilla on April 27, 2012, 10:25:11 AM
Hello everyone     As some of you may know i will be moving yet again this july 1st. im tired of moving but im gratful that this will be the last time.

Thankfully, i get to have an even bigger pony room then before and im going to be designing the rooom to look just like the satin slipper sweet shoppe. Im hoping to get some good ideas on how to do this from you guys out there. i am already painting the walls a high gloss white.

Just a few questions for everyone

how do i make my 9 book cases not look like 9 white book cases LOL ?

and

when you first think of the satin slipper sweet shoppe what is the first image that jumps in your head?

and

what crucial items must be present in the room to insure it looks like the sweet shoppe?

by the way pictures to come  :)
[nudging this over to the Corral for you - kiwimlp :) ]

update:

the pony room is now being modeled after the 2nd version of the lavender / purple dream castle

I don't know about the bookscases but a white/purple stripey blind(s) like SS's apron over the windows would look pretty cool! And of course pink carpet :)

have you thought of theaming the book shelves maybe derocating the ends to look like the ones in the shop?

pink, that is a fantastic idea for the window curtain, i had not thought about the curtain at all.

blue, i dont recall book casses in the sweet shope? or am i missing something.

floor: i was looking to find white and pink square sticky tiels for the floor but i can not find those anywhere, i had not thought of carpet at all.

stickers: another question for you guys is, what are the stickers that came with the sweet shoppe? im going to have to do a search for them.

sorry I'm not being very clear am I. Try painting them yellow and purple like the counter. maybe think about some old sweat jars for decoration round the room.

Why not cover the bookcases with a colorful contact paper?

Paint? You can do stripes.

Cover the fronts with glass? Like a candy case!

What about storing some ponies on top of a yellow table like in the playset?
You could easily find one to paint yourself!
I am now brimming with over the top ideas like making huge ice creams like on the counter! :P

thanks everyone for the ideas, keep them coming.

here is a picture of what the pony room looks like now,  notice the huge amount of space i have from the top of the bookcases to the ceiling. i got to fill that up to.

i am also trying to turn my computer desk into an exact replica of the 2 ice cream cone counter, wouldent that be cool?

That sounds like a really cute idea!

You could add some decoration behind the ponies on the "back" of the bookshelf - large sweetie jars, ice creams etc. A pink or pink and white carpet would be perfect as well.

On the stickers there was:
Work Table
Counter Mat
Counter Drawer
Desert Table
Ice Cream Cone Table
Sundae Table
Billboard Sign [x3]
Place Settings

Although not in colour...here is what they look like so you know what you are tracking down

Have you thought about having doors on the bookcases?  You could paint them to match whatever was on the walls in the Sweet Shop.  I guess you'd have to decide if you're more into having the room like the Sweet Shop or more into having all of the ponies clearly displayed if you did that though.

You could go to a party store and get some cutouts of ice cream cones etc and string them up with bits of pink ribbon (streamers would eventually need replacing), and maybe some big hearts and bows? Like the outside of the Shoppe?

I went browsing via Google shopping and found cute things. When I think of the Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe, I think of hearts and bows and ice cream and sweets and white and pastels.  The floor is checkboard, so what if you got wallpaper like that?   Or floor? You can buy checkerboard laminate floor, I bet!

http://www.partyallready.com/1950-s-tissue-ice-cream-sundae.html
Tissue paper ice cream sundae

You should get a little yellow table like the one in the shoppe. That style is pretty common, you should be able to find one easily. I'd search "cafe table yellow"

This one is really similar:  http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_07183977000P?sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=07183977000

You could place a few playsets on the table?

What about getting a chalkboard and instead of having a "menu" on it, you could write out different ponies sometimes? Like your newest buy/trade?

Hi

you guys are awesome  :)

Thanks so much for the sticker pictures, it makes searching alot easier. i dont think any of my shoes i owned ever had all the stickers LOL

unfortuantly, i wont have enough room to do the yellow table and chairs, but i can turn my computer chair into one of the yellow chairs.

im also working on converting my corner computer desk into the counter with the 2 huge ice creams. just need to figure out if im going to do the coner out of wood or paper? should i make them removable?

i had though of buying doors for my book cases to stop most dust from getting in, just not sure if i want to pay the money out yet.

no luck on the pink and white floor yet, i could do half white and pink carpet but then i wouldent have the squares.

talk about a project

Post Merge: May 02, 2012, 09:29:29 AM

me again  ;)

the stickers of the work table and sundae table are awesome, i bet i could paint some of the sticker on the side of my bookcases.

the little party pop up sundae is a really cool find

Post Merge: May 02, 2012, 09:30:24 AM

and thank you for moving the post, i wasent sure where to put it.

I think of pink and white stripes and the pink hearts on the front of the shoe.

You can line the back of your shelves with wallpaper, wrapping paper or even scrapbook paper.

Wondering this too because I'm loving that giant Sundance, she's so cool!

The most essential item you need to incorporate is the menu board. You could paint it on the door entering the room or if you put doors on the bookcases, pint one their. Giant sundae glasses with small pony items like brushes, petites, ponyvilles, even items for your desk in them would look fantastic.

I think your famous Sundance would like her own Scoop's hat and apron.

see, i knew if i posted in here i would get so many great ideas

elf come on over and help me sort it all out, in fact your all welcome LOL  Everything on the left is ponies or pony stuff, then it is the computer desk, then the boxes to the right is my boyfriends stuff that needs to leave my pony room :)

i like the idea of having sundae glasses to hold my stuff on the computer desk, plus they sell them at my local dollar store.

Paint color match,  im going to have to make a trip to my local hard ware store to get some paint samples. im looking to match the green and yellow from the accesories.

YES!!  giant sundance will need her own apron and hat, that is fantastic.  by the way she was a store display. only one known to survive so far.  i will post a picture of her documentation later.  (im at work now) in fact i may just start a new giant sundance thred as it seems the arena has a ton of new members who have not yet found out about her.

I'm excited to hear about Sundance too! I nearly got an enormous Lily Lightly from a toy store once, but I had to pass her up because I was living with my dad at the time and I don't think he would have appreciated her as much as I would...

when you first think of the satin slipper sweet shoppe what is the first image that jumps in your head?

and

what crucial items must be present in the room to insure it looks like the sweet shoppe?

What a cute idea!  The first image that pops into my head is the cute soda fountain table & chairs...

...and I think that some crucial items would be a glass cake display (http://www.target.com/p/cake-stand-with-cover/-/A-84139#?lnk=sc_qi_detailbutton) - maybe you could put some of your favorite ponies in it?  They'd be so cute in it and would be protected from dust, so that's an added bonus.

It would also be fun to use some soda fountain glasses (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12816014), too - Sea Ponies might look cute perched in them.

Hi all

I just realized im not getting notifications when people post under my thread.  Hmmmmm

that glass cake holder is a great idea AND i have one already, it just never clicked in my head to use it  :)

i have been look for the soda glasses at my local dollar store but no luck yet.

im getting worried about the pink and white floor because i cant find that anywhere. im really concerned if i cant get anything what will i do?

My cat is female and name lucky paw but sometimes she is not lucky at all LOL she used to climb all the way up peoples legs and never leaves sundance alone

What is the surface of your floor? Does it need to be tiles or could it perhaps be painted with floor paint?
Title: Re: New pony room, a work in progress.
Post by: drusilla on June 24, 2012, 05:09:37 PM
Right now it is just press wood or plywood.  you can feel the texture of the wood and see all the pieces glued together.

but painting it may be an idea if i can find something thin to put over the wood?

Yep, carpet tiles! My aunt (and niece too I believe) had some help from my dad recently for their homes. My dad placed some carpet tiles in grey and black, kind of like a chessboard only the colours were different. I'm sure I can help you find them, though it would be handier if you lived in the Netherlands, then I could ask my dad to buy/place them for you, haha. But I'm sure you'll be able to find stores located in/shipping to Canada. I really hope you achieve the pony room you want, the idea is just too cute! I just noticed you live in the same place my aunt does. xD

Thank you! I totally agree with you, they're perfect if you ask me!

well so far i have found large pink carpet tiles BUT they want 10 bucks each. i would need almost 100 of them and that would be to expensive. or i can get them cheaper but the shipping is to expensive

so now im going to see how much a pink and a white carpet will cost separate and then cut them to fit together

Update !!!!!!!

I have "possibly" found some decent flooring.

I say possibly because i don't know if i am going to go with it. I was looking for a solid bubble gum pink but so far i have found this. The color is different but not that bad and i do like the design in the tile.

1st is dusty purple 2nd is antique white 3rd is rosette

i like the rosette better then the purple.

Right now it is the only pink i can get locally and actually manage to pick up myself. i am waiting on another pink sample of a different company to come in so we will see what that looks like when it shows up.

I did find exact pink matches online but when you have to pay 300 for shipping that kills it for me.

My sister goes there at least 2 times a month and sometimes i hitch a ride. Im only hoping i can find a matching white.

Thanks sarafina :)
I have had pony rooms before but never had the opportunity to make it 100 percent mine and also as authentic as i can.

These tiles are nice as tiles and colors go but they are still not matching the sweet shoppe floor exactly. I am hoping to still find something a little better and more bright.

Am I allowed to say I still like rosette more? They are both pretty close to perfect but I honestly love the slightly lighter one.

This room is going to be absolutely amazing when its completed :)

This photo might be better for comparison.  Big bubblegum tile with rosette sitting on top of it.

New floor samples came in the mail today.  Woot   :)

These are called "shocking" for the pink and "white out" well for the white  LOL

I should be able to get these in new york providing lowes has them in stock, again not the exact color for the shoppe floor but at least it is a pink

So what do you guys think?

They're all gorgeous!  I personally prefer the pink the lower right, but they all look great.

Call me crazy, but I like the 'rosette' color...it seems more authentic, if you know what I mean?

Same! The other colours are a bit too loud and I'd be worried about them detracting from everything else in the room.

I like the rosette as well. Closer to the playset floor color, and also your giant Sundance's hair color!  I think it'd give the floor a more subtle look too, so that your other amazing things in the room pop more (your collection, your desk, etc)

Either way, your room is going to look awesome! I'll be posting my own ponyroom remodel in a few weeks too :D   Isn't it so much fun?!

I can't wait to see photos of the finished room!

I'm at the start of my dream ponyroom project finishing a huge room that is currently unfinished. I use a spare bedroom now, but my collection has outgrown it. I love seeing all the ideas for inspiration on how I should theme mine!

I think the bubblegum will give your ponies more contrast in their colors.  Rosette is overly saturated and I think it might wash the ponies out, if that makes sense?
Title: Re: New pony room, a work in progress.
Post by: hathorcat on September 13, 2012, 05:45:48 PM
Yes seeing them all in comparison I am going back to my original thoughts - I think rosette will look the prettiest and be the most fitting!
Title: Re: New pony room, a work in progress.
Post by: drusilla on September 13, 2012, 06:23:08 PM
The rosette color is the closest to the shoppe floor but the shocking pink and white would look awesome as just a cool room floor but i am trying to go with the most authentic.

I am still looking for other options and colors everywhere i can just so i don't overlook something and kick myself later for making a to fast decision.

Pony rooms are great  :)

i started with the ponies in my bedroom, then they had there own room twice when i moved with just normal pink walls because i was renting the place and was not allowed to go crazy. This pony room is going to be the best i ever had because i can really customize it.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions they are a big help let me tell you

Hello everyone AGAIN

( i had started a post about this already but i see that it has been locked )

as some of you know i am working on building / decorating my new pony room. i have chosen to do it based on the 2nd edition purple / lavender dream castle.

i took a break from doing anything on it because of surgery, selling massive amounts of stuff on eBay, going through all my extra stuff and getting ready for the fair. now i am able to do some more work on it.

I have started some little details.

here is the original mouse hole sticker on the castle

hathorcat that would be great if you could do the merge thing. i had started the thread 2 other times but i guess with no reply or update it gets locked. which i totally understand by the way.

i am still around but i had gall bladder surgery at the end of may and have been off work ever since. let me tell you it is not the funnest thing to go through but i am back and able to sit and paint a bit.

thank you for the comments it gives me hope LOL  :)

i am now working on another detail part. it is way bigger then the mouse. i started painting it tonight but i am not to thrilled about the way it looks right now. hopefully i can work on it some more tomorrow.

I'd love to see to rest of your castle when you finish!

ans here it is stuck on with tape to show you how it covers. i am going to stick it on with some sticky velcro in the future. i am also debating if i should make a side piece to cover the side?  i am not sure if i will leave the hat as is or keep working on it.

i had to change the sweet shoppe idea to the dream castle because i could not get the pink tiles no matter where i looked.

now i need to decide what other sticker i am going to do in the room.

Ah that explains a lot! I like this idea a lot too though, it's really cute.
Maybe it's a cute idea to do those uhh pony portraits? But with a real frame and all, I think that would be pretty neat.

New update :)

Progress is slow but at least i have something new to post.

I went and bought the thin wood paneling for my ceiling, just that thin stuff that is not heavy that is colored light brown to look like wood grain. Plus i was lucky to find a can of paint in a pretty blue in the "bad mix" section of the hardware store for only 15 bucks, you know "bad mix" paint? it is the colors people ask for but do not want because it is not the right shade. There loss my gain LOL

i also bough other paint to make it look like clouds in the sky :) They look kind of weird on the ground like this but it will look better up on the ceiling.

I woke up  really early this am to paint the panels outside before the rain started, thankfully the rain held off and i was able to get the panels back in the house. If i am lucky next week end i can get them up on my ceiling. until then i have to start moving all my pony stuff off the floor to make room to work.
