Annnnd it's not who you think! ;) In fact, we don't know what it will look like yet, as they are hosting a contest to decide.
Per the official MLP fb page:
"BIG news, pony fans! We’re giving you the chance to design your own pony – and it could be made into a real figure that will be revealed at this year’sComic-Con International (https://www.facebook.com/comiccon)! Check back soon to get in on the action!"
So what do you think? Will you enter?
-
I'll enter, and I'll see if my niece wants to enter. However, I think they really missed the mark on this one. I'm not a huge Ditzy Doo fan, but I think having her be the comic con pony would have been a good choice. Maybe Hasbro didn't want rioting to ensue. lol. I hope it's in the G3 mold.....that way I know I have a higher chance of getting one since many bronies won't be interested in that pony mold. lol
-
This seems really fun! I probably won't enter the contest but I wonder what the parameters for the design are (if it must be G3 mold, etc.)
I'm not sure whether to be relieved or not that it is not going to be :muffin: Pony.
-
Eeeek! How exciting! I hope it's a G3 too but I bet it ends up being a G4 because most of the people who follow that Facebook are g4 crazy... the regular G4s are too small, maybe a fashion style one...? It'll be interesting to see either way!
-
Fantastic competition!!!
However, I actually dont think that sentence reads as though the "design your own pony" will be the CC exclusive...more like a cool competition where the result will be on show or revealed at CC...but thats just my opinion from the reading the sentence! You never know with HB
-
That's funny you read it that way hathorcat......I just had a dream that Hasbro had a contest in which the winner got to have their persona appear as a background character in a future episode. Your commment sounded so much like my dream!
-

I noticed that as well Hathorcat. The wording is hazy as to whether it will be the CC pony, available in addition to the official CC pony, or just be on display there. Either way it's a neat fan opportunity and i'm sure it will be clear once they release more info.
I for one should be entering if I can think of something cool enough :P
-
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
MUST SUBMIT A DESIGN! :D
-
Oooo, this ought to be interesting. :D
-
Too cool! :D I wish I had the design skills to participate. But finally we may have a CC pony designed by someone on this awesome community!
-
I bet a lot of those submissions will just be background ponies instead of self designed ponies. XP
-
A lot of folks have already declared that they'll try to smuggle in their fave Mary Sue fanon pony, Nyx.
*sigh*
-
i don't like this.
-
Oh how fun! Hopefully it will be a newly designed pony and not one from the show.
-
If the winning design is in line with past design, it won't just be a random pony but a really cool graphic piece of artwork as the ones in the past have been :) It's less a character and more a piece of artwork imo
-

*sigh*
Oh no... >-<
Perhaps i wouldn't mind if her design was at least good/interesting...but it really isn't.
I really hope this will work with judges and not a voting system.

Yeah I do agree that it should be judged by Hasbro, and I think it likely will be because let's be real, they're not going to let anything inappropriate be mass produced by them
-
wow! that sounds so cool! i can not wait to see what it looks like! will it look like g4?
-
I am so in on this contest! Let's go!
-
Okay so they haven't actually announced anything yet then?
-
Sounds like fun! I bet Hasbro will get tons of great designs. There are so many creative people in the pony community. :)
-
Can't wait to see it!!
-
I wonder if they'll specify if it's G4 or not xD Because if it is G4 I would love to submit a few designs... though if it is for the actual Comic Con exclusive then it will most likely have to be very artsy, though I read it as it's going to be a product they just reveal at Comic Con sort of thing :3
-

Thats what I understood it as. By the time they get all the entries there is no way it could be produced in that amount of time. They already have this year's CC pony designed, but this one might be next year's or something else. The winner will just be revealed there. :P
Still cool contest. I wish I had a good idea for it. :P
-
I'll have to keep and eye on this. If anything they still be using the G3 clone pose like they had in the past for anything like this... Though It would be neat if the pony is one of those GIANT pony :D
-
This should be fun!
-
What's a Mary Sue fanon pony?
-
canon = what the show says what happened
fanon = what the (mostly) dumbass fans add to it, believing it (should have) happened.
E.g. grimdark Celestia/Luna civilwar in ye olde times, :muffin: Pony being "retarded" (which the production team then made canon) and so on.
In this amusing fanfiction world of memes, lesbian orgies and bloodshed, they have the super-awesomest of characters running around, doing the most awesomest of things, showing the actual characters how stuff is done.
And one of those characters happens to be the reincarnation of Nightmare Moon.
*edit*
Sorry if I'm overly negative/hateful. I just really happen to be disgusted by what the "truest of true fans" do to the show sometimes.
-
well, i think it would be cool having daring-doo as con-exclusive, because she sort of represents indiana jones. ;)
But i agree with, that the special designed pony shall be a piece of art, nor just a colorcombination with a cutiemark. seeing the pony more as a canvas than how they appeared on the show. ^^ like, for example, the hizuno (?) pony, take away her extra stuff, was really nice designed. ^^oh, well, all of the comic con ponies are. XD
remember the underwater pony? how detailled she was. ^^
-
Further proof that Hasbro seems to have no good ideas left when it comes to the G4 toys.
I should submit a pink unicorn with pink hair. I'd win for sure!
-
https://hasbro.promo.eprize.com/mylittlepony/rules
The rules seem pretty fair. I'm glad about that.
And it does seem judges will pick out the grand winner.
"During the Judging Phase, a panel of qualified judges designated by Sponsor in its sole discretion will select the one (1) entrant with the highest-scoring Submission from among all eligible Submissions based on the following criteria (“Judging Criteria”):
•Suitability for reproduction as an 18" model (40%);
•Creativity (40%); and
•Effective representation of the MY LITTLE PONY brand (20%)."
Only dissapointing part is the fact it's a "USA-only" competition.
-
Woah! Its going to be an 18" pony...very cool for the winner!
-
That's awesome!!!
-

If you use an Earthpony instead, you get bonus points in the field of suitability of reproduction, since it uses less plastic.
-
Only eligible for residents of the USA? Boo :(
-
:lmao:
Tropical and Opal, I luv you guys. You say all my thoughts better than I can.
-
18" pony.. so basically sounds like the same kind of contest that was held and unveieled at the 2010 fair? That would be very cool for some. I might have to try some things out ^_^
-
I bet a lot of those submissions will just be background ponies instead of self designed ponies. XP
I was thinking about that. More creativity, less copypaste on a existent pony.

If they are background ponies they will be instantly rejected, as that goes against the contest rules.

Where did you you find these Malicieuse? I didn't see them post any additional info.
Edit: I see them at the bottom of the page nvm
So what gen is it supposed to be if it's an 18" pony? The big fashion styling G3? the bronies are going to have a fit :P
-
I was reading through the rules and if you win you apprently get a trip to California in July (I'm assuming thats when comicon is) - that's around the same time as the fair in Florida, which is problematic - thats the week right after the fair 11 thru 13.
Not that I'd ever have a chance to win, but I couldn't afford to win! LOL! There would be no way I could take vacation to florida for hte fair and then fly to california. I can't miss that much work!

Haha, you're awesome! And probably right.
I don't think this is going to be the Comic Con pony they'll be selling this year, though, right? They never mass-produced and sold Rainbelle, the winning design of the 2010 design contest. I'm guessing this is the same idea.

Pfft work! I'd go into negative time off if I had to! :P
Did they post like a template or an image of a blank pony model for the previous competition?

It's the tiny text underneath the picture. : ) I'm not sure why they made it that small. Seems pretty important to know all that stuff. XP
edit: woops, seems you found it. : )

It's USA only?! Well this is a major bummer :(
-
Not surprising the contest is USA-only... there are strict rules about sweepstakes and prizes legally. :( However, there are Hasbro offices in most major countries that have their own contests and involvement with fans. After all, Hasbro Italy regularly contacts a member here to display his ponies, and I believe that Hasbro UK is working with the UK Fair...
Can't wait to see the design! I hope it's G3, as I can't stand the G4 ear style.

Competitions are never that cool though and in my small country there is pretty much nothing going on. >.< Our site even had the g3.5 art up long after g4 was fully introduced. So yeah, i wish they had found a way to let everyone enter.
-
hey thats not fair !!!!! :(
-
I'm excited for this! :D You can bet your boots I'll be submitting an original design!
-

Amen, high five, I like you ect.
Thanks for pointing out the difference as well, I was getting a tad confused. I've been trying to avoid the brony fandom in regards to "fanon" lately.
Further proof that Hasbro seems to have no good ideas left when it comes to the G4 toys.
I should submit a pink unicorn with pink hair. I'd win for sure!
And THIS, basically. It's nice that our designs might actually be taken into consideration though, even if it's just for the adult only collected CC ponies.
I can only hope it's going to be a G3 mold like the previous years and that Hasbro is only doing this in the efforts of getting more creative fans to participate and be active. I was expecting something like this to happen, ya know...years ago but hey I am super glad it's here now! I look forward to submitting a design and seeing the winner!
-
Hi hope they can Select the best desing , cause I don't like the last models (egyptian & purple and dark) . It's only my personal opinion , I just think they can do so much better ! , like more creative, artist, funny , beatiful !
-
I don' think the winner will see mass production especially in time for ComicCon. They might have something else already planned for the actual pony.
-
Exciting!
-
Huh... On the facebook page it says "*The 18" My Little Pony model will remain the sole property of Hasbro, Inc."...
Dont that mean that the winner dont even get to keep the pony?
-
You get to keep the glory, aswell as all the envy and tears of your competitors you can carry.
-

Being that they will only produce a single 18 inch version, they keep it for display at events. It's unfortunate and really makes no sense, why not simply make two? Surely the contest winner deserves to own one.
-
I entered my Red Pepper. :D I even tried to make her description sound like the stuff you read on the back of the boxes.
I'm one of those G4 people who likes some of the (sane) fannon stuff. Ditzy Doo having a child, some of the fluffier ships, some of the fanfiction (I do like Past Sins and definately Fallout Equestria...the only grimdark I could stand). But personally it's only headcannon and if it's not true I don't freak out. :D
Besides, me liking Past Sins still doesn't make it a good idea to have Nyx win. Bleh, she still is a mary sue and boring.
I hope someone with a really great design wins. I would love to win, even if it was a non G4 base. Actually, I would rather have it be a G3 base. I already made her in G4 form. :D
-

Kinda defeats the purpose of entering in the first place. I would've at least had a normal-sized version given to the winner.
-
So is this a G4 or G3 contest? :/ It really doesn't specify.
-
So is this a G4 or G3 contest? :/ It really doesn't specify.
I was wondering that too. I kept trying to look. I'm guessing its G3 since they say 18" pony, and the Pony projects are G3. I feel like they might mass produce the winner...if they like the design enough lol
Aren't the 18" ponies all handpainted? Isn't that why they are only making one?
-
Part of the trick to winning is going to be submitting an earth pony design. Because, let's face it, Hasbro is not going to churn out a new 18" pony mold, they're going to use the 18" pony that's used for Pony Project art.
(Not that I'm complaining, I love that mold!)
A unicorn or pegasus might make it to the Top Ten entries, but I'll bet you anything an earth pony will win.

I'm fairly certain it'll be G4 even though it says 18", since the updated contest page shows G4 designs
-
I think to Hasbro, My Little Pony is My Little Pony. They use G4 artwork on the page because that's what's in their clipart folder right now.
Some of the Pony Project ads also use G4 artwork, but I've seen blogs from two different artists participating this year, and they're using the Kimono-looking G3 mold again.
-
Good, because I was going to go with a G3. Even tho I don't have a snowball's chance of winning, I still want to submit at least one design.

What about styling starcatcher and Rarity? They have a 18" molds of them, so reproduction wouldn't be a problem unless they decided only to use that standard white blank one. I really hope it's a G4 honestly. Though i collect all gens I'd be much more excited to have it be the newest gen.

I've just submitted my entry :)
-
I've been feverishly working on my submission but I'm a bit frustrated. How do you submit? I get to the page where it says you have to fill out your personal info. I hit submit. It takes me to a page where it says I have to "like" the contest to enter. Well, I'd already done that. But then it won't do anything. It just sits there on the page telling me to hit the "like" button and won't ever take me somewhere where i can upload my submission. Grrrrr!
-
I don't see where someone enters XD

I was going to use my ponysona, but I can't.. In the rules it says: "The Submission cannot have been submitted previously in another contest or been exhibited, displayed publicly or posted on line or used anywhere else."
Darn! But I already have some ideas. ^_^

Me, too. But the email sent to me has a "submit entry" link so I was just gonna follow that when I'm ready to submit.
GL everypony!!
-
I'm going to enter, but I have a questions for you all... does anyone have links to past winners of similar contests? I entered the one for the fair in 2010 and never did see who won (yes, I am spying :D).

Wow they really covered themselves, didn't they!? At least this means no established fan characters from FiM or background characters from the show.

I actually quite like that line - it means the submissions "should" be completely unique and therefore everyone has a fair shot [fingers crossed!]
-
I agree, hathor!
>.o Ouch sorry aellos. This is why you always gotta read the fine print before entering a contest!

Ahaha, personally I didn't care enough. Just kinda threw it in there for the heck of it.

If I read the rules correctly, it does say that you can enter up to 3 submissions. I was finally able to enter my first design and I am working on a second.
