Title: Baby Cakes... with accessories!
Post by: sabathamk on April 12, 2012, 07:57:39 PM
When I saw the Baby Cakes ep I knew I HAD to make those itty bitty cuties into tangible pony toy form!  I wanted to bring about a bit of the G1 magic I loved as a kid... all those adorable little accessories they came with... so I took some inspiration from the show and... STARTED on them.  Haha.  I have yet to finish the paint jobs.  They are just basic right now.  I need more time, and I have so many other projects that these have just been sitting for ages.  The ponies are done, but the accessories and the crib need more work.  but I don't care!  I want to post them!

I aim to make a blanket and pillow, and I have fabric similar to the old G1 stroller baby blanket!  I also want to make a stroller... and a change table.  Likelihood isn't too high right now, but perhaps I'll get around to them someday.

Anyway, prepare for some pic spam.

Pumpkin Cake's cute lil horn (and turtle... I LOVE the turtle, haha.  Too bad it isn't finished)

Pinkie Pie is babysitting.  Forgive her messy hair, she's had quite the day.

A pic with the mane 6... just because.  And these are actually my daughter's ponies.  Mine were unavailable in the bedroom my son was napping in, haha.

I couldn't resist putting Pumpkin in the little saddle.  I didn't put holes in their bums so they could click in (shoot... why didn't I think of that?) but it still kinda works.

RD is giving Pound a lesson on fast flying.  He seems to be taking it all in.  I feel sorry for his parents!

Hope you enjoyed the pic spam!  I do want to finish these eventually, and I'll have to post pics of them all set up in a nursery when I do.  For now, I just had to post these.  :)

D/you think you could carefully drill holes in the bottom for the pegs?

I might be able to do it with Pumpkin, but Pound... well... I'm not sure I'd want to trust it.  I haven't drilled sculpey before and I'm a little afraid, haha.  I haven't tried it, but Pound Cake might fit nicely on the little peg anyway with the way his feet are... hmmm...

Edit:  Nope.  His feet are a little too close together.  :(  Perhaps a drilling I will go?  If I get brave enough?  haha

Yeah the older one's feet should fit around it,I would think.  Well if you try, good luck!  Try it on a bit of hardened Sculpey as a test, and be careful with the drill.  A light drill as opposed the a heavy one could be good.  or maybe a dremel.

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! I think I may have shattered a glass with the high-pitched noise I just made. Those two are absolutely adorable! I love that episode :D

I SO want to get myself a dremel!  I love those things, my dad had one and used it for all sorts of stuff.  Perhaps I could convince myself to buy one on sale... or maybe I could borrow my dad's... hmmm.  Now I really want to put holes in the bottom so I can interchange them with the wagons and such.  And I have the Carousel... they'd be so cute on the top of it!

Craftsman makes a similar tool, a rotary tool, and is rather cheaper, if I remember right.  Try Sears.  C:  If you don't have one, them perhaps Walmart, or Lowe's, Home Depot, or Ace Hardware might have such.  Or you could try the Craftsman website.  :is a Craftsman fan:

I'm thinking I'll check Canadian Tire.  Mastercraft is the label on most of my tools... cause they're cheap and they get the job done ;) .  I know I saw a rotary tool of sorts on sale a while back for a measly $30 or something... I'll just have to wait for the next sale.

Although, I do have one thing to say... I will never buy Jobmate again.  I have a jobmate cordless set and it is COMPLETELY useless.  My drill is Jobmate.  The battery doesn't work at full charge and it drains within seconds.  :(  Live and learn.

Awww! These customs are great! It's super awesome that you made them to-scale with the regular G4s, too. :) So cute!

Thank you so much everyone!  And I think the accessories are my fave too, haha.  I should make a lil pull duck toy and glow worm, haha.  Ooh... they have glow in the dark paint, right?

Those are absolutely adorable. "Nom nom nom." Pound Cake's manestyle is a bit off (it looks more like Lucky's), but otherwise bang-on.

Those are too friggin' cute! Great job so far, and really excellent job capturing their expressions. Can't wait to see them completed.

if you had an extra saddle you didnt mind defacing it might just be easier to cut the peg out of it xD rather then risk destroying your adorable babies T.T, iv actually got loads of saddles and wagons if you wanted a few xD

You have just made my daughters day. She's 4 and Baby Cakes is her favorite episode. She loves them as much as I do. Wonderful job on the little ones.

Thank you!  And what a great idea, cutting the peg out of the saddle!  I should totally do that!  I don't like the saddles much anyway for display, haha!

*teeny tiny _pegasus_*!!

/faints from the cuteness

Glow-in-the dark paint usually comes in a very limited range of colors, but a thin glaze of the most neutral color the art store/craft shop has might do what you want.

They're both darling, but I absolutely adore the little peg.
I haven't seen the ep they came from-they sound like little stinkers. ^_^
And yes, I would much, much rather cut down a saddle than risk damaging either of the wee ones.

That being said- I don't know if they're available for cordless Dremels and Dremel clones, but the Flex-Shaft attachment is *wonderful* for working on small things. I hang the body of the (corded) Dremel itself from a shelf above my workspace. So much easier to maneuver that smaller Flex-shaft handgrip when you're trying to carve or drill something delicate! (And you don't have to worry about a battery going 'pfft' at just the wrong time)

You guys are REALLY making me want to buy a dremel now, haha.  The flex shaft sounds wonderful!  I think I'd do much more wood work and less with clay if I had one!
