I'll bite! Not that this restoration was too drastic, just a magic eraser and a looooot of conditioner, but it's special to me since it was my first attempt at cleaning up a pony. Sorry for the weird lighting and yucky cell phone picture quality on the photos!

I just finished my first attempt at cleaning up a So Soft, but I don't have my camera with me, so I'll have to save that one for later.

One of my favorite cleanups--I was so happy that with care, luck, and a lot of conditioner, her smooth curls came back!

I love her new mane.

I haven't really 'restored' a pony any more than a wip with a magic eraser and conditioning the hair. Plus, I have nothing to take pics with...

This Twisty Tail had a dry, frizzy tail that looked like a ketchup/mustard mash up b/c all of the colors were so mixed up.  Here is the tail after I started picking the colors apart (YES I did that--not for the faint of heart) and before it had a date w/ conditioner and a straightening iron:

After!

Sadly I did not own this pony--it was part of a huge bunch of ponies a friend had in storage.  She pulled them out for me to see them, I cleaned them/fixed them up, then back to storage they went!  :(

Wow, that's amazing patients and results!  She looks brand new!  I did that for one of my friends too, while I was cat sitting for her.  I washed and conditioned her ponies from garage sales and returned them, lol.

These both involved sculpting some new body pieces- Gingerbread had part of her horn missing and a chunk out of a hoof, and Surprise had a chewed ear and hoof. Painting and lots of NC sun!

Most of the stains were removed with Oxyclean, sunfading and soaking in Hydrogen Peroxide. I repainted her symbols and gave her a new mane and tail.

And this reminds me, I still have to finish the rest of the ponies that I found with Scoops. ^_^;

More or less; I don't know how, but when we moved a few years ago, a few ponies get left outside; then someone piled outdoors stuff in front of them and so they got left outside for nearly three years! ^^;

@Buttersketch....I am in awe...that is serious restoration! I am embarrassed to say that pony wouldnt even have made it as bait in my house...

@Valeofspring...you have serious patience, Twisty looks amazing

The danger with these threads is I always end up deciding that ponies look better with different colour mains...Majesty is so much cuter with the dark blue!

I LOVE threads like these!!! Cat I agree - the ponies with alternate coloured manes look so cool!

I haven't done anything major, although I've been meaning to do some alternate rehairing for ages but I hate rehairing so keep putting it off! :lmao: Give me a magic eraser, some conditioner and a pair of straighteners and I'm happier...

I've only done conditioner jobs really. My Baby Quackers I posted about cigarette smoke and yellowing is now lovely and white. That's the bravest thing I've done with regards to restoring. Haven't photographed her yet.
I really enjoy looking at restorations of G1s. Each time a pony is saved or restored I smile like I'm 6 years old again :)

Pinkkittywinks. I think your beddy bye eye restorations are fantastic. Especially those twinkle eyed ones you did. When I checked back on the UKPonyCon Forum I saw they had sold :( :( They were beautiful

Wow, so many amazing restores! I have to admit, if I found some of those, I wouldn't have given it the time of day. But that's why I sell them because I hope someone will:)

I really wish I had more photos of some of mine but the only one I could find was a rehair of a buzzed Diamond Dreams who I gave some nice new locks too:)

Here is a bump with one sad girl.

Major hair cut, missing ear and foot, yellowed, and teeth marks all over.

I sunfaded her, gave her a new mane, I was able to salvage the tail. She had her holes filled in with a custom blended white sculpy, and a new ear and foot sculpted.

After the Wishlist swap, I REALLY want to find some baity ponies to restore. As in, get a bait lot of dirty ponies with haircuts and possibly even symbols that need restoring. I've got a tailless Moondancer with faded symbols that I'd like to try once I can get the right hair color, at least. Once I get the time I've also got a really messy Starsong with red marker all over her that'd look lovely if I can get it off without damaging the rest of her.

Great Job, everyone !!!!

Personnally, the restoration I'm the proudest about is Italian Sunstone.
As she's a nirvana girl, I wanted to keep her in as original condition as I could, so I cleaned her and sculpted her a new horn, but removable. So nothing was definitly added or removed.

She was like this :

Do you guys think this could be saved? My Boyfriend wouldn't let me bring her in the car...but is on my family's property so I can go back any time if she can be saved...

I dunno. She was one of my childhood ponies....I'd like to save her but I dunno if it is possible...

Yes, try to save her, there's nothing wrong with trying to clean up a pony, no matter what they've been through!
She may not work any more after you get her cleaned up (I've never taken a DNP apart, but I'm sure her insides are....yeah.... rusted out....).
There's no restoration challenge too big for a pony collector...

I think she can be restored to a satisfactory condition! It looks so far like a lot of dirt, really. It would be a challenge, but I think she could be brought back-- don't leave her, please! :(

I'll go get her when my boyfriend isn't looking! Its a special trip but it will be worth it, its not TOO far out of the way.... I work 8-5 tomorrow so I will sneak by.  There might be a chance there are more, but I do not know. The house is destroyed and has no chance of getting in. I think that is where the rest of my childhood collection is (my intro post explained: the ones at home were burned).

These are amazing.  I never even knew this existed until I read this thread.  It makes me want to go hunt some old ponies down and save them.  Where are you getting the before ponies from?  Thrift shops and garage sales?

This thread also makes me realize that when I think I am fixing my daughter's ponies' hair nice, I'm really still leaving it a mess.  I guess I need a hair guide.

I wish I'd taken pictures... one time at the mlpfair I was digging through a box of baits and found some dingy Flutter ponies for like, fifty cents each as custom baits.

Bought them, cleaned them off, turned out that except for a symbol rub on one and some frizz, they were pretty much minty.

I'll have to post some of mine... I recently did a G3 that was terrible with pen, scratches, and whatnot.  I get most all of my ponies from the recycling center (my uncle works there, and gives all ponies he comes across to my cousin, who gives them to me... I get a few a month, mostly G3s and 4s, but I've gotten the odd G1).  I need to get my befores and afters eventually.

These are all awesome btw!  I ADORE these threads!  I love seeing old toys restored like this!  This is the reason I'm into collecting right now!

That is so cool that you get your ponies from the recycling center.  Giving a pony new life is THE BEST way I can think of to recycle a pony.  I just bought some off the Goodwill website to try to restore.

At first I was like "aww" because I am on my parents' PC and my photos are all on my Mac but then I was like "yay!" because I remembered this one was in my photobucket. Derp. Anyway.

I wish I had the original e-bay screenshot, she was pretty sorry. I think I posted it in the Nirvana forum when I first posted her restore. Her mane and tail were cut, mohawk style. She was dirty, and she had red and black marks that did not wash off. But I figured a Dutchy for $20, what is there to lose?

With help from pinkkittywinks to help me determine the correct shade of Dollyhair, I went to work. I bathed her several times. I had to really go at her head with a razor blade to get it off, it might have been glued on before and I could not salvage the inner ring, thus it is glued back on. The black and red marks that did not come off I had to carefully wipe with acetone on a q-tip. One of them was so large and deep that her plastic (which is harder than most G1's, like a lot of Dutchies) is a little thin in that spot. But I got it to where her marks are not that visible on display.

Then I started to rehair. I am fairly new at this, and I use the knot and wire method. It started off slow, because of the plastic being hard, I had to take a needle and widen a lot of the holes. But I finished her before I thought I would during my time pre-back surgery when I would wake up with burning nerve pain in my leg and foot and not be able to go back to sleep. It's something quiet to do at 4:00 in the morning, and requires concentration so it was as much of a distraction from the pain as possible.

Then I compared her to my real Dutch Seashell for an idea of hair style, and cut her new hair using my mom's hair trimming scissors.

I give you: $20 (plus new hair) Dutch Butterfly:

just wondering when i read hot irons or straightening irons, is that the same as a hair straightener? and do they melt g3 or g4 hair? i use rollers or wrap around the legs/neck, but find it really tricky to hold the pony and the roller and the hair!!!

love love love all of the restorations, i could look at the pics for days. i sooo wanna try rehairing, but maybe when the kiddies are older :)

for the pinking I used this step by step that I found here on this site , I couldnt find liquid rit dye but powder insted but it seemed to work nicely , very fast ! http://mlparena.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=134912

for the perm I used foil straws and pins , and then dipped and held in very hot water for about 20 - 30 seconds ish  and then in ice  cold water till it was all cold to touch
then you can undo it straight away as its fixed :)

Here's some of mine. They're probably not the best ones but I always forget to take pictures.

I found her from fleamarket for 1€. She was missing one ear and she was really, really dirty.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Shady's hair was just crazy and I painted her symbols again.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Rainfeather is one of my childhood ponies. As you can see from her old hair, I gave her a bath almost every day.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This one took SO long.. Her hair was so messy. There was also some sort of glue in her hair.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Baby Sapphire is my childhood pony too. She was covered in neon yellow marking pen and she had my name written on her neck with a red permanent ink. At the time I didnt know acne creams can bleach blue ponies. I was really lucky because she didnt lose any colour. Except all the ink is now gone.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Firefly is my childhood pony too. I have no idea what I was thinking when I gave her that 'makeup'. I still need to paint her eyes again, but at least the makeup is gone.

I have a ton more, but they're mostly re-hairing cases.
