Candy swaps are fun. Just be fair warned that shipping can add up in a hurry, especially shipping internationally, as candy weighs heavy.

Would a partnered swap be preferred, or a shared one (like in Obscuria's sticker swap thread)?

Editing in candy preference form. :]

I'll join in! I'll type up my profile and what I like/can offer later, though. Probably in the next two or three days. I've only slept for one hour the past two days, and I'm afraid I'll completely screw up my list if I try to think right now. XD

I just wanted to toss in some very important information that y'all might want to include in the swap data. :) Bein' a former mail carrier, I wanted to point out that most countries have restrictions on what you can and can't mail there. Like, you can't mail dairy products to Great Britain or Australia (just in case any of you were thinking of sending your swap partner a big tub of powdered milk! ;D ) And there's some weird restrictions that might cause problems with sending certain trinkets; for example, the USPS site says you can't send horror comics, coins, or banknotes to Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Whut? Did I read that right with my sleep-addled eyes? Coin collectors and thriller fans despair!

There are exceptions to some of this stuff that I'm way too tired to go into, but you'll need to do the research for your own countries and plan accordingly in making your requests/shipping stuff. :) Here's the USPS's list of restrictions by country (but it's by no means a complete list, so check with the postal service where you live!)

http://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/immctry.htm (http://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/immctry.htm)

(I'm so sorry if none of what I wrote made sense. I'm going to bed now....)

I think most candies would be fine - just don't send Kinder Eggs or other candies like that (containing non-edible materials.)  US Customs will seize them.

:D Candy . nom nom. I really have to think about this!

I haven't send food items in the mail (domestic or international) , is there anything special about this ? or just mark it as candy, and it's good to go ?

I'd imagine you could mark it as candy and it's good to go! If you're unsure, maybe contact your local mail provider or office if you have one nearby.. or somepony could look into it for you, if they're in the know! ;)

3-4 weeks sound fair. Are our partners going to be random? :frolic: I'm excited. I've never done a swap before

Random indeed! :D I'm considering pulling it out of a MLP bag.. But I'll definitely bear preferences in mind if that's what people would like.

And Mystagic, thank you so much for that info! :D You've made my job easier..

Post by: stopxmotion on April 04, 2012, 04:19:06 PM
Sometimes you can get away with just marking it as candy, but as someone who ships things overseas a lot, I wouldn't take the chance. Be as specific as possible (chocolates, crackers, cookies, licorice) and exactly how many items.

And Mystagic, thank you so much for that info! :D You've made my job easier..

Aww, you're welcome! I used to do food swaps years ago. A lot of people would end up sad because their package was rejected due to forbidden items. :( I want to save you guys some headache and heartbreak!

Here's my info for the swap. I slept for a really long time last night! But I'm still kind of loopy, so read at your own risk, haha:

Username: Mystagic
Any particular favourites?: Milk and dark chocolate, gummies/jellies (including jelly-filled marshmallows), licorice (including salt licorice/salmiak, which is darn near impossible to find here!!), sour candies, hard and soft caramels/toffees, cookies/biscuits, gum....I have a bit of a sweet tooth, okay?! XD

Any location's candy you'd like?: Scandinavian region, middle and eastern Europe, Australia, South America, Asia....

Anything you don't like?: Banana. And PLEASE, NO COCONUT, or I will get very sick. :( Coconut oil is an exception--I can eat foods containing that, as long as it doesn't taste or smell like coconut.

Allergies / Dietary Requirements: None (unless it turns out I'm actually allergic to coconut XD )

Would you send trinkets? / What trinkets do you like?: I would send! I collect things like miniatures (particularly animals and household items), pretty rocks and gems both polished and unpolished, and seashells. As long as it's in decent condition, I don't care if a gift is bought or if it's something you already had and wanted to re-home. But I'm mainly here for the food, so you don't even have to send any trinkets. =^^=

Any location's candy you'd like?: Anywhere is awesome, but England/Scottland/Wales would be fun 'cause my SO just told me she loved the food when she was there.
Anything you don't like?: I don't like sour stuff, taffy, almonds, dark choclate, black licorice
Allergies / Dietary Requirements: I require it be delicious!
Would you send trinkets? / What trinkets do you like?: Sure! I like most anything. Stickers, pins, necklaces, fun and adorable things. I love flamingos and penguins! ♥

Have any idea of when the deadline will be? I am pretty strapped for cash until mid-May because I have a vacation I am going on. When I get back, I can blow all the money I need. Though I can probably afford to pick up a few snacks here and there now. The limit is pretty affordable, but I always tend to go over.

Anyways, here is mine:

Username: DazzleKitty
Location: Missouri, USA

Any particular favourites?: TONS. I love many kinds of candy. I have a major sweet tooth.  I love Reeses, Caramello, Almond Joy, Lindt chocolate, Godiva milk chocolate, Ghiradelli caramel-filled chocolate, Cadburry milk chocolate, Pocky (any flavor....I love trying new ones), Japanese candy in general, rose-flavored candy (it exists, I had it a long time ago...I think it came from France), sour Starburst, Skittles of any flavor, Jolly Ranchers, Hershey's Cookies and Cream candy bars, Milka chocolate, Oreo cookie stuff, chocolate chip cookies, LU brand cookies, Maple-flavored stuff, York patties, Andes mint chocolate, the gummies you find on the cereal aisle, Gushers, Fruit Rollups, Rice crispies treats, honey-flavored sweets, Three Muskateers candy bars.
How's that for a list? Plenty to choose from! I'm not super picky. If you have something unique that you think I'd like to try, then by all means stick it in.

Any location's candy you'd like?: If you have something that is unique to your area and country, feel free to include it. I love to try new things around the world. If my partner happens to be where Cardbury Fudge bars are sold (I've never seen them in the US), I would love to try one or two.

Anything you don't like?:Licorice, gummy bears, Red Hots (or any cinnamon spicey candy), super dark chocolate, and gum.

Allergies / Dietary Requirements: Nope

Would you send trinkets? / What trinkets do you like?: I don't mind sending trinkets. I like keychains, glittery stuff, stickers, notepads, cool pens, and any small nifty things

aww, I'm in the very same situation. I would love to join*, would soon be in need of candy as preparing for my final exams will be tough, and we have lovely Hungarian chocolate and candy to share with someone, but I'll have to count, organise and think it over if I'll have the money.

*if I can. I've seen at a couple of swap therads that there usually are some rules considering trade counts or how long someone's been a member, but here I haven't seen any.

Just thought I'd say that I was int he candy swap a couple of years ago and shipping is something you have to be careful about.  I guess it depends on if you're doing by weight of by price.  We did 1kg and it cost me about £14 to ship to America.  Royal Mail prices are also going up at the end of April!
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread!
Post by: BrightSide on April 08, 2012, 04:09:59 PM
There aren't any post / trade count limits on this swap. I'm fairly fresh to the arena, so it'd be really hypocritical for me to impose those kind of limits onto others! :)

I guess everyone needs to bear costs in mind. Don't spend a huuuge amount on your package, because postage will add up! I'm saying for everyone, no more than $10 please. Trinkets will count as extras, they're at your own discretion.

So wait~ Your first post says $10~20. But it's going to be no more than $10?

I have been quietly thinking about it, because I keep thinking about postage costs. ...  But it might be more affordable if it's only around $10. I have a GIANT candy warehouse that is close by with candy from all over. I remember candy from the UK, and South America. P: I don't recall many asian candies there, but I know all the good spots for that too.  There are tons of retro candies as well.... AAAAND, you can buy them individually, for like 10c-25c per piece of candy.

Truthfully, it shouldn't matter if you send $10 or $20 of candy. It matters more the weight of the candy. I'm not against the $10 limit, but obviously $10 of poprocks would cost less to ship than, say, $10 of chocolate kisses. ^.^

Turquoise/teal and Rainbow Dash! What a good idea, this'll help anyone getting pony-related trinkets for their partners. You should totally toss in your colour/pony too, TerabithianPrince!

We went shopping today. For less than $10 I picked up an 80oz bag of candy. 8D .... The shipping rates on that would kill me so my partner gets some. And some other stuff. For... Variety's sake. XD

Jealous! I haven't even been able to start shopping yet. The front plate mount on my car is...gone, mysteriously (I have my suspects)...and I can't legally drive around until I get a new one put on so that my license plate isn't just sitting on my dashboard. Guess who'll be spending all day Monday bored at the repair shop!

On the plus side, staying close to home has given me time to come up with ideas of what to buy. :D And once my car's legal again, look out, markets!

Siobhan, I'm thinking as long as it's clear we're sending our packages as gifts it will be okay. It seems from that website that we would only require business licenses if we were importing them to sell or likewise..

Ooh, question time for everyone! What are your favourite characters / series (other than MLP)?

I just calculated the probably cost of my box. It's going to cost more than the candy haha. I hope to go into town this week to get some more candy from the other store.

My favourite non-MLP character or series. Hmm....I'll have to think about that one. I really like Dragonball Z, Cardcaptor Sakura and Scooby Doo. xD

I got some shopping done today! (Even though my car still doesn't have a front license plate. But I NEEDED to run some errands. Shhhh, don't tell!!) I'm going for variety 'cause it would suck if I sent my partner a lot of something that they turned out to hate. Some of the markets around here sell pre-packaged individual servings of candy, and I've got a handful of random stuff and plan to pick up some full packages of other foods. :D I was hoping to finish my shopping today, but the weather is being weird. It can't decide if it wants to be stormy or sunny. XD Maybe tomorrow; the weather forecast is lovely for Friday.

Ooh, I can finally use that MLP wrapping paper I bought about six years ago!

*feels stupid* What do you mean? You mean like the box from something?

Exactly! I have friends who will display their import soda bottles and the boxes their snacks came in because they think the packaging looks cool. We have a big empty box on our counter here at home that used to hold Giant Pocky, as well as some empty Ramune bottles. But it also adds bulk and weight to the final package and is just clutter if the person who gets it doesn't want to keep it. I don't think it'll be a problem for my swap parcel since nothing I bought came in a bulky package. Still, other people might want to toss any unnecessary packaging if their partner's not interested since weight will make shipping more pricey, so I'm asking for everyone. :)

Some more questions for all y'all, because I found some candy in the bag the shop owner tossed in as a bonus (he was very intrigued by the idea of an international candy swap). They're kinda unusual sweets, so best to ask. I tried one of each kind and liked them, but they are definitely different!:
1: Do you like hot/spicy candy? Like, cinnamon, ginger, or pepper?
2: Do you like chews (soft chewy candy, not to be confused with taffy or gummy-style candies)?
3: Do you like gum?
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*

Hmmm I don't really keep that stuff. Can I just say I'm really glad this swap was open ^_^ it's fun buying candy (I keep buying extra to eat though)

1. I love hot/spicy food but not really when it comes to candy!
2. Chews are okay I guess.
3. I love gum xD
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*
Post by: tinrobo on April 28, 2012, 02:14:31 AM
I like to "upcycle" (you can tell I've been on etsy too long) old packaging, especially if it's cute or unusual. Making notebooks from pocky boxes for example.

1. I love cinnamon! Never really had other spicy flavours?
2. Yes, as long as it's vegetarian.
3. Yes. :p

@SweetScoops Yay! Everyone I talk to hates Clone Wars but it really is one of my favourite things on TV right now ^^;

I'm having trouble finding nice extras for my partner, going shopping today... Hopefully I'll find something good!

This is so much fun! By the way, I came up with something that might be helpful. Customs can be bad about opening wrapped gifts, especially if it's something edible. Gotta be sure it's not something that's barred in their country, after all! So instead of fully wrapping my sweets like I originally planned, I'm only wrapping the packaging up to the place where you open them. That way, the surprise of what's inside is preserved till unwrapped/opened, but customs can still open them if needed without damaging the wrapping paper, unless they just manhandle everything. I really like the wrapping paper and thought my partner might want to keep it, so I don't want the paper just torn off and tossed away in customs! Not to mention that would just ruin the point of wrapping everything in the first place. XD

Thanks for your answers, you guys! I hope all our partners are watching this thread!
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*
Post by: terabithianprince on April 28, 2012, 10:30:41 PM
Oh no I wrapped all my sweets. As long as I write the customs form exactly I should be okay right? I don't want customs to destroy my wrapping before the person even gets it. ^^
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*
Post by: EStRanger on April 28, 2012, 10:59:11 PM
You'll probably be okay because customs seems to get lazy a lot. However, I do remember that they seem more likely to open a package if it says it contains food. Most of the snack packages I've gotten over the years have been opened, though the actual food items weren't opened, thank goodness. But if you *don't* mark it properly as containing edibles and they decide to open it anyways, they might be jerks and reject the parcel, or else tack on fees that they might have otherwise been willing to let go if the parcel's contents had been correctly labeled on the customs form. I plan to properly mark my package, just to be safe. "Gift: non-perishable candy, small toys" is how I'd label mine.

On that topic, in case your parcel is opened in transit, be sure to put an address and return address label INSIDE the package too, in case the one on the outside is damaged during inspection! The things you learn when you've handled parcels for a living. XD

That's great. I bought a lot of candy for the swap so I don't want to disappoint my partner if the parcel doesn't arrive. I'll mark it like that then though I'm not sure the value (probably just a little over the $10 XD ) it's actually sending the box that is going to cost me a lot.

We're supposed to be sending them next month right? :lovey: I just need to get some extras and my parcel will be all ready. Oh and find a box too. Any advice for packing/shipping a box overseas?

Make it as waterproof as possible! Line the box with something like plastic grocery bags or some other material to cushion the goods and keep them dry, and also individually wrap each item in something waterproof--also as extra cushioning against squishage, but you good traders already know about that. :) The number of times I've gotten a package that was left out in the rain or broken because it had no interior protection at all....*Sigh*

This is my very first swap too! And I'm so afraid of getting it wrong and disappointing my partner that I'm trying to take every little situation into account before it happens, haha. Once I do more swaps, I'll calm down and not sweat it so much, and I'm sure it'll be the same for you and any other swap newbies here. :) I guess the best piece of advice any of us can take to heart is "Have fun! It's the thought that counts in the end!" Even if it turned out that I didn't like the taste of anything my partner sent me, I wouldn't be disappointed at all! I'd just be happy that they sent me such a nice gift. :) And if I can't eat or use something, I'll share it with someone who can, so it's the gift that keeps on giving. XD

*LOL* Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, guys! I'm just nervous, and that makes me ramble and overthink things. XD

I haven't started to shop yet. I am on vacation from May 12th and don't get back until the following Saturday. Luckily, I have a payday right at the end of the trip. I am intending on getting everything I need in one or two trips to the store.

Are most going to be shipping early? I feel like the slowpoke here waiting till mid-May, even though the deadline is late next month.

BTW, I haven't been in the loop here. Any questions that have been posted that I should answer?

You're welcome, Tinrobo! I'm really happy if I can be of help. :)

DazzleKitty, I don't think you're a slowpoke at all! The original post says the deadline is end of May. The only reason I've already gotten my shopping done was because I *didn't* know the deadline at the time (forgot it, don't have a smartphone to be surfing the Arena while out shopping), so I just assumed "as soon as possible". It's probably the same for many here who already did their shopping, where they just wanted to get it out of the way before something else came up and caused problems.

That's right the deadline is the end of May but because this is my first ever swap in the arena I wanted to make sure I met the deadline so I bought everything early ready to ship out. That's why I'll be sending my box out early.

:lovey: Also another question. Are there any G4 ponies people are missing that they would like? (if you have a G4 wishlist)

I've lined my box with a bag, and stuck my final little extra sweeties in which I picked up today, just need to wrap the thing again in paper (one of the parcels won't fit in the box!) and get hold of the money for shipping.

If everyone can send their addresses to me during this month, as early as possible, I would be insanely grateful.

I'll be packing my box tomorrow. I'm insanely nervous. :drunk: Hopefully I can mail it out soon (I still need to visit a few shops to get some extra goodies)

And great...I'd be worried too if you didn't have your own address.

I would SERIOUSLY worry if you did not have your own address.  ;)

And now you've uncovered just one reason why my parents were always so worried about my younger sister.... XD

I'm going to be finishing up my wrapping and packing this week, I hope. I might have to go buy one or two more things to round out my parcel while I'm trying to find someone to fix my license plate issue (yes, I'm STILL on that--and now my windshield moulding needs replacing, too! Always something....) Hey, any excuse to combat my social anxiety and get out of the house and feel like a winner, right?

I've got another question for the host (BrightSide) Should we put a card in so our partner knows who it is from? If I don't get a card now I'll probably leave it out.

Going to the post office and to get some extras tomorrow. I might ask the post people how much it costs to send a box while I am there and what is the safest shipping.

^ I'd recommend everyone puts in at least a little note to let their partners know who they are, but if not, there's always the Arena to post brags in! :P

I'm updating the main post: all members whose shipping addresses I have will be italicised, and I'm also making the shipping deadline a tad more flexible for you.

Also anybody want a naughty black and white kitten who is trying to destroy my wrapping? I'll be taking teaser photos next week.

Ooh, I remembered I've got these little capsules that used to hold Zelda gashapon toys I ordered years ago. I'm thinking of using them to hold some of the loose candies I got. They'd be easier to wrap (with space left open for customs to check inside them) than the sandwich baggies I was thinking of using, and a rather interesting way to package stuff besides! I'm going to see if I can find them when I dig out the wrapping paper. This is so much fun!

Please, no one panic about shipping: it's still very early on in the month, so you all have plenty of time. I'm going to be parcelling up my box together (one of the packages won't fit in my box!), and will send it sometime this month.

Shipping address received, BrightSide! I'm hoping to get mine out this week. I've got to get a couple more little things because I thought my package could use some more bulking up, but I'm 99% percent done with everything up to shipping.

Nessa16: That sounds like a great idea! You just have to make sure that it won't fall apart in the shipping or go bad since it won't have any preservatives. I once sent some soft cookies to a friend for the holidays and didn't properly secure them to not bounce around or get squished. My friend received a book and a pile of crumbs for Christmas. XD

Urgh. My parcel was supposed to go out yesterday, but guess who came down with tonsillitis and gets dizzy spells now from merely getting out of bed? The funny part is that I was worried about getting my car in shape, but the very same day I had it repaired and got that worry off my mind, I was hit with this plague on my tonsils. What do you think the Universe is trying to tell me, guys? :/

At least I'm still right on schedule, more or less. :) I'm glad I got it all out of the way early, or I'd have a lot of catching up to do when I'm well enough to leave the house!

Rybett, I don't envy you at all. Nausea is one of my biggest weaknesses. If I'm even the tiniest bit queasy, I feel like the world's biggest baby. I hope it's over for you by now!

BrightSide, Terabithianprince, I'm so sorry you guys are feeling badly too for various reasons. I hope everything will be better for us all next week.

I was hoping to feel better by today to finish up my stuff, but instead I feel worse, so my package is still on hold. :/ It wouldn't be so bad, if only this headache would go away. I've never had one last four days before. Then again, I've never had tonsillitis before, either.

The thought of shipping makes me want to cry. Thought I should warn any British people..

I shipped three packages to the US today, all under the weight of 300g - one was even under 100g. Guess how much the Royal Mail charged us..

Just under £15.

I could honestly create a huge hole for the whole of Royal Mail to fall into. flip you, Royal Mail. :(

But if they come early enough, I hope to get out and finish up getting everything I need, maybe even get it all sent out if I'm done before afternoon rush traffic starts. Made one more trip out to the shops today; I've got everything I need! Now to find the trinkets that seem to be hiding from me in the spare room, as well as find the smallest box that will hold everything without squashing....

I ended up not wrapping mine at all, though they'll be put in plastic bags, so it's *kinda* like wrapping, haha. I spoke to a former co-worker who now does overseas shipping inspections at a dock-thingy, and he recommended leaving items unwrapped to reduce the risk of the package being confiscated. He said that with the Olympics going on this year, a lot of customs agents will be on high alert with parcels traveling internationally, even if they're not going to England. I hadn't thought of that before! You guys who wrapped yours will most likely be okay (the chances of your package being targeted are pretty small with all the stuff that travels internationally), but I'm not going to try my luck with a swap partner's gifts at stake. XD

Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*
Post by: EStRanger on May 18, 2012, 07:44:07 PM
I think you'll most likely be okay, terabithianprince. :) As long as it's properly labeled on the form, you're less likely to have your parcel inspected. I'm just taking extra precautions on the advice of my old co-worker because working for the postal service has made me paranoid. XD I'd never even thought that the Olympics would make shipping more difficult, but I guess it makes sense. Athletes come from all over the world, so if someone wanted to target one negatively, they've got a lot of countries to send bad things to before the games start. :(

I went out this evening to the post office and grabbed a handful of customs forms, so I'm one step closer to mailing out! I was going to just fill out a form online, but the amount of info the USPS wants for the online form is ridiculous. I don't know my partner's phone number; why would I? Almost nobody knows the phone number of the person they're mailing things to. =O_o= There were two different kind of forms, so I grabbed some of each, just to make sure I fill out the right kind when I examine them more closely. Still have to take the box to the PO when it's open to mail it out, though. What a pain! The trouble with working all night is that it's hard to make yourself get up when the rest of the world is open for business. XD

*Sarcastic hooray!* We've got a tropical storm coming this week, three weeks before the storm season even starts! It's not supposed to reach us till Tuesday, though. I'm going to aim to get my package sent Monday so it can be on its way out of the area before the inevitable flooding. *Sigh* The disadvantages to living near the coast. You have no idea how insanely jealous I am for you living near the ocean. I live several hundred miles from it (a good 14 hour drive). I just got back from vacation and we were at the beach for a week. I would give anything to live near the ocean. My long term goal is to move by the coast. I just adore the ocean and sea life in general.

The tropical storms would be kinda worth it, haha! Where I live we have to worry about tornadoes, which suck. And I live on the fault line where the most horrible earthquake ever could happen should it decide to do so.

I got all my shopping done! I have to go to the store again tonight and I may buy a couple of small extras. I am nervous about how much shipping is going to cost, LOL. Well, whatever it is, I will pay it.

^ Oh gosh! Well, I'd write it as 'non-perishable confectionary / candy', hopefully that will work.. I'm also a little afraid about goodies melting.

I'm terrified about shipping prices. A tiny package cost me £4 today.. :( oh no.. Oh well, it's worth it.

Also, I discovered Tootsie Roll and Nerds today. A candy store in Blackpool has a huge variety! They're wonderful. :)

DazzleKitty: I wouldn't want to live anywhere BUT the beach! :D But not this beach....I'm from near Florida, where the sands and ocean are gorgeous, there're palm trees and tropical flowers everywhere, and people are generally happy (even if I don't agree with a lot of the discriminatory politics of the state). Even though hurricanes and tornadoes are a common way of life around there, I loved it. Now I live near Virginia Beach, and everything from the beach to the ocean to the buildings are grey and drab, drab, drab, and there are so many angry and rude people! Definitely go to Florida if you can, next time you're planning a beach trip. :D I'm partial to the sugar-sand beaches of the Florida panhandle, but the entire state has great things to see. I can't wait to move back someday, if I don't end up on the West Coast. Just be careful about going during hurricane season! Trust me, the beach loses its charm really quickly when flying tree branches are knocking out the windows around you and the wind is making the building you're in sway back and forth. XD

BrightSide: It gets so hot around here that I was also worried about some of my stuff melting, too. One advantage of this oncoming storm is that when I send mine out, it'll be fairly cool along most of the coast. I'm hoping mine gets where it's going without running into *too* much heat. I deliberately didn't buy any chocolate bars for that reason. I was so afraid they'd turn into a puddle along the way and bloom, and no one likes bloomed chocolate.

Yip-yip-yay--I got mine mailed out today! Well, yesterday now. It's nearly 3 AM here. XD

Shipping was...insane. I know international shipping is crazy high, but I was surprised at the final tally. My box WAS just under 4 lb though. The trinkets and the final food item were what did it in!

I've never mailed something this far around the world, so I don't know how long it's supposed to take. I really hope it arrives before the end of June. I'm sure my partner does too, even though they don't know yet that it's their box. ;)

And good timing was had by all--my boyfriend surprised me with a second copy of Diablo III so I can play with him, so it's good thing my box was sent out already. I'm pretty sure I'll be spending all my free time for the foreseeable future fighting the minions of evil. ;D Until my own box arrives, of course. Then I'll be sure to take and share pictures!

Ha. Well, took a look again at deadlines. No hard dates is why they're not on my calendar. XD WELL THEN.

Had a bit of life up-heaval recently and haven't been online much. Saw nothing on my calendar about shipping dates, then got worried when nothing was there that I'd somehow been kicked out of the swap and someone had logged in to my google cal and removed stuff since it wasn't relevant. XD Phew. In other news, I've got almost everything for my partner, waiting for one or two more things. Probably going to ship out next week or the week after depending on work stuff.

Dear partner,
I am so so so soooo sorry. :c I am trying my best to get your box packed and shipped, but real life keeps getting in my way. I will try so hard to have it out soon. I hope you like everything, though.
I'm super duper sorry.

I went to ship my box today and couldn't do it. Apparently I underestimated the shipping cost and my package would cost $55 to ship! I am gonna have to get a smaller box and take some of the extras out I put in. Sorry, partner. :(  You will still have a lot of treats, though!

I am gonna try to get mine out Saturday. I forgot the holiday here in the States on Monday and they won't be open. If I trusted my mom more, I would have her mail it for me tomorrow but she's never shipped international for me.

I've settled a final date for mine. It's going out next Thursday even if I have to drag myself to the post office.

Is airmail shipping safe? Does anyone know. I've never mailed anything this size overseas.

You're probably good with airmail. If anything, it tends to be faster than ground (or "sea" shipping if it's crossing the ocean, haha) where it'd go by boat.

That makes me wonder how mine will be traveling. I'm holding onto my receipt and will be stalking this thread till my partner's box arrives! Since it's not prime shipping season where crap backs up like Christmas, I REALLY hope it'll take less than a month to reach its new home. And safely, too! That's even more important than arriving quickly, in my opinion. It's not like there's anything perishable in there.

I still haven't gotten mine out. It's all packed up and everything. It's my goal to get it out Thursday. I'm not procrastinating. It's just the that PO's schedule clashes with my own schedule.

I'll have to add a note with my to/from etc and then I'm aiming for Thursday. Box has been addressed and pakced up. I might have to tape it but I used one of the special boxes from the post office.

Posted my brag too :)

Omigosh! I didn't think it would arrive THAT quickly! I'm so happy you're enjoying it, Terabithianprince! Nearly all those foods are ones I'd never seen before (while the shop was sold out of just about everything I originally planned to get, haha). So I was a little worried about how good it would be, but I really shouldn't have fretted. :D

Have you tried one of the ginger ones yet? Those things really gave me a kick in the teeth when I tried the ones I bought for my boyfriend and me...soooo not what I was expecting!

You're so welcome! I had a ton of fun hunting down those things. Such a relief that they all made it safely. =^^=

Now I'm even more excited to get my box! I thought maybe it had arrived today when I opened the door and saw a box with a customs label, but it was just the flower pins a friend was sending back to me. XD

No one feel bad for being late. I STILL haven't gotten mine out. :/

But GREAT news! I just got paid, and yesterday I won $100 to top it off! Soo....it's all packed up in a new box and I have the next two days off. It's going to be  mailed out tomorrow, FINALLY! And then all that's left to finish is the Four Seasons Swap I am in, which has the pony shopping done but not the extras. Phew!

I got a box in the mail today! I have no clue if it's from this swap (more likely) or the Four Seasons one (which it would be very early). I am so tempted to open it but I feel bad doing so when I haven't even gotten mine out. I already know I'll cave in and tear it open tonight. I'll feel far less guilty when I get my end out tomorrow.
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*
Post by: terabithianprince on June 04, 2012, 06:11:00 PM
You should open it DazzleKitty so we can see what you got and don't feel guilty  I got mine and opened it the day before I sent mine out. Besides you know you're just dying to open it. :D

I'm really worried. I never sent a box overseas and all the presents were wrapped. I want my partner to be spoiled not open a box of ripped open parcels due to customs. Does anyone know if customs tells you if your box was opened?
Title: Re: Candy Swap Thread! *START SHOPPING!*
Post by: EStRanger on June 04, 2012, 06:38:46 PM
Terabithianprince, when I've had parcels opened by customs, they put a sticker on it that says it was inspected by customs. But there's been a few times where I suspected a package was opened, but no sticker. So I guess it depends on how strong the work ethic is of the person doing customs. And, I guess, what the inspection protocols are for each country.

I have a question for BrightSide: is it possible to find out if my partner has sent their box to me yet? Or to be told when they do send it? I've been trying to get up early to babysit the door ever since packages started going out (I'm usually up all night at work and sleeping during the day), but it'd be a lot less tiring if I could just wait to do that until I actually knew the package was on its way. =^^;=

^ I'll get onto it for you, sweetie. :)

I'm so worried I'll have to take a couple of my extras out, because I think I've gone a teensy bit overboard and that package ways a *tonne* :c   I've decided I'll go look at it shortly, and figure out a better way to pack things as I'm not satisfied with it currently.

Edit: I didn't have to take anything out! Unfortunately I had to unwrap two parcels in order to fit everything into a more compact box, I'm sorry partner.. but at least all of the yummies could stay in there. It's gone from an ugly huge box to a kinda pretty one now, so I'm much happier with it.

Thanks a lot! I got a bit paranoid yesterday, when I overslept and only woke because thought I heard a knock at the door. There was no one there when I finally got dressed and checked and probably never was; most likely I dreamed it. XD But then I got to worrying about my package being returned to sender if I don't get to the door in time! Not a big worry with the postal service because they'll leave a notice and hold the box for 30 days, but UPS and DHL have a much less stellar delivery record and looser delivery protocols around here.

I went a bit overboard with my parcel too! And I have the outrageous shipping cost to prove it, haha. But I knew Terebithianprince would appreciate the extra, so I didn't really mind. The only annoying part was having to find a bigger box to put things in after I'd been so determined to fit everything in a small one. XD Even then, it was a tight fit with all the added protection!

But you did such a good job on my box  I really appreciated the dragonball z cards I've opened them now I might start collecting them.

I'm hoping my partner's box turns up soon. I think it's a 10 day estimate delivery.

I am so frustrated that I want to cry! I took my box to the post office today to ship and it still cost about $50!

Basically, if I want it to be affordable, I'm going to have to take at least half the stuff out. I will admit I went a bit overboard and I wish I could afford to send everything, but I don't think I can. I'm going to put it in a small box and try for tomorrow. :(

I got my box and it was wonderful! It had lots of my favorite snacks! I am going to post a brag tomorrow! :) Thank you my partner if you are reading this. I will share the goodness via picture tomorrow.

Thank you, terebithianprince! I enjoyed finding all that stuff for you. That's how my parcel got overburdened, too much fun. XD The DBZ cards weren't expensive at all; I was surprised at how cheap they were. If you're having trouble finding them affordably in your own country, I might be able to help if I can still find them around here. :)

SpaRx SPOILED me.  It's like you know me!  The candy is all the stuff I love, and the extras just made my day.  I couldn't ask for better!  LOOK AT THAT ERASER MAKING KIT.  And the stamp magnet is on my fridge.  Eeeee!  I had to take that edamame pod out of its packaging immediately - it was TOO adorable.

I have candy for MONTHS now!  Thank you soooo much for your generous box!

Edit: oh gosh, tried to ship today.. they were charging £25 minimum!! *cries* I'm so so sorry partner, I'm going to have to rethink packaging and take a few things out.. it really pains me to do this, but that's so very expensive. :c I hate the royal mail.

I have to go work on dinner and cleanup now, so I will have a full report up in the brag thread soon, and of course your feedback. :D Thank you again!

Shipped today! Came to £15, and my mom paid £10 of it (she hasn't had to pay school transport since I left my old school in December, so she can help me out a bit now).. still pretty expensive, but not as bad as yesterday's quote.

I'm sorry that it's mainly not wrapped, partner. :c Had to make sure all of the goodies which I really wanted to stay in would do, and that meant seperating packages to fit things in the parcel. I hope it arrives quickly! The lady said it wouldn't take too long.

Any more boxes?

Also, for those who have recieved your boxes: were you surprised at all with what you got (like, any new favourites, anything which didn't taste how you expected)?

I was pleasantly surprised that I really like Apple Jacks cereal! I'm currently displaying my own AJs in / next to the box. XD They look so cute. And American gummy worms are waaaay better than their British counterparts. When candy says 'sour' over here it tends to mean 'a little fizzy but that's all', your sour is fantastic!

I am in love with the chocolate salt licorice bar SweetScoops sent me. :) I saved the second half of it so I could have it for my birthday dessert tonight. And the chewy mini-kitties, I love them too! Pretty much everything she sent went on my list of new favourites. The pear and cola marshmallows were DEFINITELY unexpected. I didn't know cola could taste so good in mallow form. :D
