Title: How do I get Hasbro to look at my toy idea?
Post by: Saiko on March 30, 2012, 12:49:29 PM
This is an idea I'm certain will sell enormously to their target audience, young girls!

Simple: Princess Celestia figure in a carriage, pulled by her royal guards.
When my sister and I were young we both loved toy horses, and my sister loved Barbies. We owned 3 different kinds of horse and carriage sets for Barbie. I don't think this is much different. What with boy pony mould already made, the design for the carriage already done, and the Celestia figure already in production, I think this would be the perfect kind of playset for Hasbro to release. Only problem is, how do I show this idea to them?

I think that's a great idea!  :)  Maybe you can check their website and see if there's a contact email.  They also peek in here occasionally, but it hasn't ever done us much good  :silly:

Thats a very cute idea! Hasbro seem to like trains and vehicles at the moment so fingers crossed they may consider something like it!

My first thought when I read your idea was "3-5 ponies and a carriage? That is going to cost a kidney!". I seriously doubt it would be sold for less here in Scandinavia, but putting the asumed price aside, I would totally LOVE if Hasbro decided to make it (need more playsets!). I wish you the best of luck and I hope Hasbro will listen to your idea ^^

Great idea, though I bet if Hasbro makes it the design will be miles different from the one in the show, lol

Great idea! i had a carriage when i was little and i loved it!

The guards totally have to be in their armor, tho... no weird yellow clothes! *note to hasbro, not to you*

While i like the idea, i don't think Hasbro is allowed or willing to just take someones idea. It's like the writers who are adviced not to be reading fanfiction just so someone will not walk up to Hasbro claiming they stole their ideas.

I would buy it, then customise it to a nightmare moon carriage.

I love this idea
Maybe they could even throw in a more show accurate Luna *cough*  :lookround:

As far as cost goes, I don't think it would be too bad if it was the carriage, Celestia and like 2 guards. I mean, how much is Princess Cadence & Shining Armor's castle going to cost? That in itself is a great deal of plastic, plus 2 decent sized ponies. I think it's a reasonable request, plus it would be very cute.

I would try and shoot them an email! I think your idea is really cool.
You may not hear back from Hasbro, but it is worth a try. c:

There used to be a area on the site where you can make suggestions... I don't know if they still have it any more or cleverly hid it

Edit: You could probably contact them asking how one can submit a suggestion... not sure if they will answer but it's worth a try?

The royal guards! I want them so badly, I really hope we do see some release with them so I can build a pegasus army.

You could post on the official My Little Pony page on Facebook. I think they might watch that more than anything else and it might have been instrumental in the release of white Celestia and the others.

Since it's not an original design or anything, I think it would be acceptable to post something to the FB or send an email to their "comments and suggestions" division. I mean, it's really using their own pre-conceived design and characters, just stating that you'd be interested in purchasing it as a toy.

If it were something along the lines of "I had this awesome idea for a pony. Her name is Gumdrop Giggles, and she's green with orange and white hair. Her cutie mark would be glittery gumdrops", then yeah, they'd stay far away from it to avoid a lawsuit.

I'd imagine e-mail would be your best bet.

I think while email would be good FB would be better because you can get support from the other fans.

That would be a cute set!

I don't know if Hasbro just takes suggestions like that though.  Maybe if enough people got together and showed how much they like the set, Hasbro would notice.

Maybe you can aspire to work at Hasbro some day. It would be a fun job designing toys!

To be honest this is what makes me want to bang my head against the wall with HASBRO sometimes. FIM has so much content that screams 'Make this into a toy!' this carriage being a prime example....they just need to take their 'blinkers' off and stop with the whole force fitting ponies and products together like horses on scooters and cars!

Both Disney and Mattel must sell bucket loads of Cinderella and Barbie Princess carriages, but it doesnt even cross Hasbro's mind that this could work for ponies.

Even if they needed to scale it down to make it more affordable, to just Celestia being pulled along by two guard ponies it would make an Awesome product in my opinion. Way better than all the nonsense Rarity carriage (which has nothing to do with anything show related) , and the Sweetie Belle and Fluttershy train cars, which two a large extrent will only sell as a secondary purchase to people who have actually bought the train!

This isn't rocket science HASBRO! ;)

There got that off my chest! Off to TaoBao now to buy ponies that have been pinched from a factory, to ensure i am not funding Hasbro's silly decision maker's salaries :)

I'm sure the toy designers who created the toys you like (and have no input in what toys are being made) enjoy their salaries too...

And since they still produce toys you wish to own i can't imagine their "decision making" is that horrible.

I was only teasing:)

I haven't actually bought anything from TaoBao myself nor am I going too!

But i do still feel that there isn't the best decision making going on at Hasbro in regards to their product assortment, and I think that is both the responsibility of the Toy Designers and the Marketeers.

Trust me...I work in exactly the same industry.... i know what goes on.

Oh yeah don't you work for a certain company that makes toy bricks?
