Title: What makes your collection unique?
Post by: saply on March 29, 2012, 08:03:27 PM
I was inspired to make this thread after seeing that auction for a OOAK Thailand Ice Crystal (pony). Sure, we all have our armies of Cotton Candys and Twilights and Raritys and Rainbow Dashs, and I'm pretty sure that about 99% of the members here have an Applejack of some kind. But what's that one special pony (or special ponies) that really makes your collection fabulous? It could be a rare Nirvana or a TaoBao variant, or something limited edition or even an awesome custom! Please, brag to me baby. All gens are welcome, of course. And pics are not mandatory but they're definitely encouraged!

For me, it's this cute little variant of Rarity I found on eBay. I know there are more out there but I've never seen anyone else with her!
[nudging this over to the Corral - cheers, Kiwimlp :) ]

Her head looks naked without a horn. XD

Anyway, I don't own any nirvanas or special variant ponies. Maybe someday I will.

I don't think I have anything that'd be unique to somebody else but they're all unique and special to me. *hugs my ponies* Maybe my special edition blind bag Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle but I kinda doubt it since a lot of people probably have those.

OMG! A hornless Rarity! That's a new one....For me! Actually I have a few, mainly foreign G2 and G3 McD's and a couple of foreign G1 ponies, in which some people would have them by now. But I think what really puts the icing on the cake would be a porcelain G1 Glory. First time I've seen one in person!!!!

Weeelll...  G2s DO have furry feet.  But the boys don't look different from the girls.  ;)

G1 boys are all Clydesdales - like the Budweiser wagon horses!  :D

I never really thought about whether my collection, or anyone else's for that matter, was "unique". Although, I suppose my customs qualify.

I'd also say my childhood ponies make it unique, but only to me, and only because I've had them basically since I became sentient.

My collection is unique because I only collect wingers (and now Breezies!).  I have roughly 60 of them!

Fakies, fakies, and fakies!

I know that's not truly unique since there are quite a few fakie lovers out there and I'm only one of them. I don't have any RnS or Totsy ponies or any rare nirvana knock offs, but I do welcome fakies into my collection as I would any pony from Hasbro. You know those Cabbage Patch fakies that everyone complains about being ugly or terrifying? I think they're cute. Of all ponies, I think this one is the most gorgeous one I have in my collection so far.

Most of my collection is still relatively common, but for only being into MLP for 9 months, I'd say I've done pretty well for myself. I guess what makes my collection unique is my enthusiasm for making pony goals and working hard to make them happen, combined with my indifference to the ones with the most value and my focus on the ones that I truly like.

I absolutely love her, but I wouldn't say she's my favourite pony.
She's definitely a lovely part of my collection, though. C:

Also have this pink-haired prototype gal (on the right) who's pretty cute.

My collection will be a whole lot more wonderful once I have Venezuelan and Peru Poseys which are on their way. :)
I collect Posey variants, so I would say that's what makes my collection unique for me. My Poseys. :lovey:

hmmmmm what makes my collection unique?

well, I have the one and only Tuneful (for me, lol). and he's probably the only one with this hair do. and he's one of the few that's considered a guy as far as I know.
He was my first pony :)
(and no, he doesn't have a tail)

plus this huge (full body, but he's hidden behing the pony shelf) sign that Da made for my graduation '10. :D

and perhaps not too unique, but I'm quite in love with my Lemon Drop army.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

they're 2 hooves HKx3, 4 hooves HKx2, China x2, talian AB eyes, Greek (and a greek sister on her way). + dollymix, spanish baby, a little polymer clay pudgie by Alrak and a lovely sculpted laying down baby  by HipsterDerpy (and rayechu had a hoof in it I believe?)

Also, I have this G3 signed by Derek Jacobi :> (thanks Charmer and Aflame!)

Uhm, I specifically collect baity G1s? Not sure how unique that is. But by "baity" I mean TRULY baity, not this "baity" I keep seeing (protip: messy hair, a dirty body, and a tiny hair trim does NOT make a pony bait). I LOVE G1s without tails and with hair cuts! I don't mind cancer or rust stains, paint rub or scratches (except for eyes, to a point I can accept it). I've also got a Sundance army I plan to do a lot with once I have the funds.

This is my favorite pony, and one of my first. He has no tail, a very off tail hole, lots of cancer/rust stains, and symbol rub. :)

I don't really have a lot of ponies that would make my collection unique.
There's really only three I can think of off hand.

The first is a Custom Newborn Baby Lemon drop my mom bought for me a few years ago off ebay.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The second is a G3 pony in the wrong box. (Which I don't think is too special, but it is uncommon, I think? I'm not really sure.  ^^; ) It's Amazing Grace, in a box labeled Sunny Sparkle.

And third is most, if not all of my G3s who came with tinsel in their hair, don't anymore in my collection. I was kind of big on de-tinseling a few years ago, since tinsel did nothing but get on my nerves when I tried styling their hair. Plus to me, it just looks better.

hm... it has t be...me! XP
Or the fact that I've never met another collection who keep a specific number of ponies ;) If I have to many, I have to sell some off! XP It keeps the collecting interresting and a bit of a challenge for me :)

As for ponies..I think my most special one is the Oh-so-wonderful-mint-condition Windsweeper I found at a second-hand shop for about $4

That is ADORABLE. :D I love him! I thought about making a custom Knight Shade, but that's better than I'd probably be able to do!

As for my collection... hm! My collection is pretty young so there's not much uniqueness going for other than the sheer fact that it's my collection.

So, it's not much, but due to finding a Sew and So with a severe haircut and the need to style it instead of rehair, I have a Sew and So with attitude!

And I'm sure there aren't many Bowties with their hair styled like this! It was an accident but I thought it was so adorable that I kept it this way.

I have been scoping out rare and weird fakies for some time. I have been SERIOUSLY slacking off on my fakie site, but this week I am working on updates.

Here are a few of my little treasures:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Sideburns Fakie - I now own a blue one as well. So weird, you gotta ask, "What the heck were they thinking? How would that be appealing to a child?" To me, it made her super appealing. Lol.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The Mattel Sweetsville ponies. I only the pink and the white one. I still need the yellow one. (Unless there are more I'm not aware of...) These ponies have butt cheeks. Also, WHAT THE HECK?!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I now have another Totsy -- one that was made into a custom of my persona for me in a swap. So cool:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I really don't have any rare or hard to find MLPs. :/ I have a pearly Baby Cotton Candy, and a G1 mermaid pony (pic in my sig). That's about it, lol.  :satisfied:  edit: I meant my avatar, lol. Sorry!

I like even my baity ponies because they have character. Maybe that's special.  :P

My collection isn't all that unique, though I do have a Bunny Hop/ Hopping Pocket who still has her basket, bunny and pink hair!  She's the only G1 I happen to have now too, so she's special to me.
The rest of my collection is over-run with fakies and G4 Raritys.  I never intended to wind up with so many Raritys.
