I'm thinking about a glass front one (to keep ponys safe from kiddies), esp since my little lady has worked out she can throw toys at the ponys (currently up high on book shelf) and knock them down and wha-la pony to play with.... to my horror!
So show me what you have :)
-
Time to do some photobucket digging.... This picture is soo old, but more expensive ponies go in the small curio cabinet.

(I've got to take new pics of the back room...)
Yep, this room is NOT kid friendly... LOL

Well, I was a little lucky. I found a display case out in the garage when we moved into this house. I finally am able to use it properly. This cabinet is the only thing I have at the moment to display ponies. I do understand about little ones trying to get ponies since I have a little girl.

Nice cabinets, I've been watching our local auction website... waiting for something similar to come up :) I think I need something with a lock to keep my cunning daughter out. The size of yours Skycakes is about what I'd like, but I'm not sure what the significant other would think of that LOL (and I'd want to fill it up).
Scraleos I love that Whizzer pose Masquerade *grabby hands*!!
mlp4me - I love the Rainbow Brite dresser! so choice, and those mlp curtains ohhh! too cute.

Here are my Ikea cabinets :)

Thanks Endocat!! :o)
You'd totally dig the fact that it's an entire Rainbow Brite kitchen set! There's a fridge, stove, and a sink!
Thanks, there has been A LOT of effort put into my pony space! (Someday I'll post new pics of the entire room.)
-
Yeah, I know what you mean. I will have to get some more cabinets maybe someday. If you do get a cabinet that big I would just pass it off as "look how much space we can save honey!"
:)

Great displays everyone! mlp4me: that's like toyheaven :D

:lmao: Clever little one! ARGH it's the Rainbow Brite stuff I am :jealous: of. XDD Here's my rather unimpressive display:

I wish I had enough room in my house to have a display cabinet. I used to keep my collection in the basement, but we've had a lot of flooding lately. Now they're just in drawers with my very favorite ones on a shelf in our computer room. Nice collections, everyone! :)
-
I love your all pics!! ->going crazy :D

That all-glass one is very cool! But I like clear things. XD
-
oh so many choice cabinets! I really need a glass front one - I'm running out of 'decoy' ponys to keep my little miss occupied ....
Oh I love Yum Yum's cabinet!
-
I have two glass door cabinets; the small black one was rather cheap and isn't that great, and the big white one I got from IKEA after lots of research. From what I read, display cabinets are greatly a 'you get what you paid for' thing, so I splurged on my IKEA one. The doors push open though, so it's not the type you want but...

These pics are great!
We have Ikea Billy Bookcases with glass doors. I use hair bands to tie the knobs together.
-
OMG, YumYum..... I just wanna do a grab and run!
Hmmm... I have a couple of older photos... Here's one of them :) The cabinet has since been crammed with about another 30 ponies since it was taken though, so it's a bit squished at the mo!

I will have to get better shots of mine....but here is some shots I had in photobucket
My cabinet is an entire cabinet built on a wall by my hubby and goes floor to ceiling on said wall...the front is plexi glass and I decidedto stay away from any stained wood for fear of the plastic resting on varnished wood could make the plastic become sticky by absorbing the poly sealant...
it has lights in it as well...it is pretty full...Im going to need another wall...doh!visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I will have to get a full view shot for you guys tomorrow ;)

LOL that is the funniest thing endocat, my son has just started doing that too, little smartie's arnt they.

everynow and then i find master 4 and little miss 20 month old pressing their little hands and nose's up on the glass doors starring at the cuddley toys. LOL they look like kids in a candy shop ROFL
-
That's a cute cabinet, Dede! I like the windows on either side too - that's one of the things I love about mine as well... being able to see ponies on almost all sides! Totally hear you on the kids just sitting there gawking. I frequently find my two having a chat with the ponies! (and every now and then, the cabinet needs a good dose of glass cleaner!)
-
LOVE the cupcake stand Dede!! that is just adorable!
My wee miss has a particular taste for the delicate ponys... 'baafly pony' (butterfly pony) aka flutters and windy wings. Just the ones which crumble in the hands of a a couple of 3yr olds.
I've been browsing trademe (a sort of NZ version of ebay) for a cabinet. We have a lot of 70's 'stuff' so I'd love a retro cabinet.... My sofa has the same feet as your cabinet Marlin ;)
-
i love glass cabinets, i love yours marlin, its so cool and retro and you can see so much of the ponies with the all round glass.
how do you tell kids of that age, no dont touch, i say these are very old toys and my son says "i play with old toys...yes?" he talks about mummys toys, im waiting for him to say something at kindy like 'mummys got lots and lots of toys'
endocat dont you wish we had ikea in nz, with all the cool display cabinets, grrrr it should so be here by now.
btw everyone has such beautiful displays, so much pony goodness

This is what I'm using to display my ponies right now :) These are stacked Itso cubes from Target. They're really neat, each cube can be removed (and the shelves too) and they can be stacked any way you want to. I clearly need more cubes, my ponies are 3 rows thick and I'm still out of room! And those risers on the top holding the Fashion Style G4's were originally made for closets to store socks and stuff :P The drawers on the bottom hold all of my ponywear, accessories and some of my MOC's, I still need one more shelf on the left side. And you can see my books stacked on the left, they were displaced when the ponies took over the cubes lol! Some day I will have a nice glass display cabinet, but for now I'm moving around a lot and this is much easier to dis-assemble and put back together than having to worry about a fragile cabinet. Also nice and cheap :)
-
I got an awesome cabinet from IKEA as well :) it doesn't lock, but it's easy to use bands to tie together the knobs:

Unfortunately, i donĀ“'t have a pic of it closed :P

Display cabinets are a great way to protect your ponies.
I got glass shelves made for mine and mirrors put in, and they have nice big glass doors so I can see my ponies well even when they are closed.
I've only got photos of them open.

I probably need to invest in a case or something of that matter. I worry that my cat will knock down my pones. It can probably wait until my meager collection grows, though.

Ahhh! I hope my 3 year old doesn't figure that out! I'm about to move all my G1's out of her room though. I don't mind so much if she gets a hold of the G3s to much. Of course she's not at the age where I would let her use scissors and markers openly yet either, though. Dreading...
These are actually DVD or CD display cases. They are the perfect size for displaying tons of ponies. I got a couple of them (G1's display) from Big Lots- $40. The G1's display is acctually up on my daughter's dresser so she can't reach them. Of course that won't help your problem.
But originally I had invisioned crafting my own glass doors on the front of these to protect them from dust. Then my kids were born and I thought I could use that unbrakable glass... plexy glass is it? I still haven't gotten around to it though. I thought of many ideas but I really wanted my hubby to help out so that it came out right. I had thought of 2 to 4 doors on them with hinges and magnetic latches to hold the doors in place. Of course now I would have to add a lock or high latch to keep the kids out of it. I would still like to do it some day.

This is such an amazing thread. Myself, I'm hoping someday for something tall, narrow, and enclosed on three sides by glass or clear plastic. I don't have kids, but I hate dusting. :/
-
Right now I have the ponies just on bookshelves, but the ones that are not MIB, I am displaying those as art in our space or maybe living room space. Not decided yet.
We are using these nifty shelves from the Container Store.

Arranging them by color on the white shelves...
Guess this just means I need to buy some more certain-colored ones! Gosh. I guess that'll have to be done. :P

I love your cabinets so much. <3 I remember when you posted about them in the brag forum, such a lovely display. I aspire to have something similar someday!

I Love sparkleset80's lit up cabinets too! Would love to have one like that! I just noticed your playsets on the top of them. Perfect! I only have the Lullabye Nursery because we don't have enough space for playsets.
OMG, YumYum..... I just wanna do a grab and run!

Thanks dede88! I like how it saves space to display them from the side! One of them is on the floor but doesn't take up to much room at all since it only sticks out from the wall like 6 inches.
-
Thank you! He's my favorite of al the ones I have done ^^

I love the all-glass look, and it's what I initially wanted to do for my collection. My shelves reside in my garage. My dad was down-sizing his business into a smaller premise, so I got lots of industrial shop shelving lined along the walls. They were free so they keep me going for now ^_^;;
These are just the G1s (it's a bit rammed due to a lack of space). The ponies share the room with some G4s and Sylvanians.
