Our new phone has an automated voice that tells the name of the caller, but it annoyed us so I was trying to turn it off. After clicking around in the phone's settings, I went looking for a cell phone to call the house phone with. Mom's purse was on the floor, next to the table. I leaned over, found the phone, and as I was standing up, I hit my head (hard) on the corner of the table. (The corner is rounded, thankfully; it could've been a lot worse had it been pointed.)
I swore and rubbed the bump, and my parents freaked out and came over to help me. I was trying so hard not to cry and show my weakness, so I started laughing. Then I couldn't stop. My brain couldn't decide whether to let me cry or laugh, so I did both. It went on for several minutes, and my parents were laughing with me, so it helped. :)
I wonder, has anyone else ever laughed at their own pain? Or am I just weird?

I've laughed at my pain many times, I think its one of those things your brain does to help you from feeling more pain. That and I find humor in myself getting hurt in rediculous ways... not sure why..

That makes sense. This isn't the first time this has happened to me: one time, I tripped and hurt myself to the point of tears, but before they could fall, my dog came over and randomly licked my elbow, and for whatever reason, I laughed nonstop for 5 - 10 minutes. And it's true, when you laugh when you're hurt, the pain goes away faster. :)

Well i wasn't in pain, but one time I was eating lunch and I picked up a bottle of teryaki to add more sauce to my meal, and I picked it up by the top not realizing I hadn't placed the cap back on tightly and ended up sloshing about half the bottle down the front of me. For a second I was about to get incredibly angry and then I just started laughing it was so terrible and messy :lol:

Sometimes you can't help but laugh at the situation either! Like falling when you're going up the steps, that ones always a good laugh lol

it actually has a very logical reason to it, i know it was said that it helps the body cope witht he pain which is partially true in that it helps US, not the body cope with it, whenever i'm nervous or scared i always resort to humor lol ... but if you are trying so hard NOT to do one thing the body's programmed to DO SOMETHING so it's searching for the next closest thing to do ... which when you think about it, a hysterical crying jag sounds remarkably like a hysterical laughing jag lol and ever laugh so hard you start crying? ... and bazinga you start laughing instead of crying ad cussing lol
you were focusing so much on not crying from the pain your body was like "CRAP IN A HAT! WE MUST FIND AN OUT FOR THE TEARS SHE IS STOPPING! LAUGH LIKE YOU'VE NEVER LAUGHED BEFORE!" lol

mum was pulling the garage door down and didn't see me and donked me on the head, i laughed all the way to work xD

I have problems with the laugh/cry/laugh/cry.....etc... thing sometimes. I'm a sensative person and I think when I get tired and something too emotional triggers me I have this happen. Started when I was 10 yrs old. It's weird because sometimes it happens and I don't know why I'm crying and then I laugh hard and start crying again. I confuse my family but they understand that it happens sometimes and are supportive in helping me try to calm down.

I am prone to fits of the giggles at times (not usually when I'm in pain though).

Yeah... I have a tendency to hit my knee or leg on everything, often I don't even realize I've bumped into something and find a bruise later. But when I hit something and notice it, sometimes I'll laugh because it's such a normal thing for me to have run into something, it amuses me how predictable I am. Lol. :P
