Title: What was the last year G1's were readily available in a store?
Post by: Neon Sparkle on March 11, 2012, 09:37:14 PM
I know the line ended in '92, but when I was a kid in the 90's I remember toy lines that still lingered on shelves for years after they had ended. I know now it's rarer to find toylines on shelves after so long.

So does anyone remember seeing G1's on store shelves well after 1992?

I think that 1992 or 1993 is about right!

I know people have found G1s in stores in "nirvana countries" well into the 2000s. Specifically, I remember someone went into a store in Peru that sold books and stationary and found a slew of moc ponies. They bought them out of course.

Here in Sweden back in around 1999-2002 I still had hopes of finding random left over G1s when I went into toy stores, especially small family owned stores. After ~2002 I sort of gave up.
There has been a few "store" G1 finds over the years here. But those mostly originated from people holding on to stock in a back room of their store and such (being collectors themselves).

In the US, I have no idea. I do know people were actively hunting in around 1998-1999 when collectors gathered on the internet. I have not heared of any late finds.

I remember Toyr R Us in Lisabon (Portugal) always having MLP readily available at least up to 1995-6. that is where most of my childhood ponies come from. It might even be a bit later than that.

1995 the Dutch ponies came into store.
I think they were there untill 1997 (in the Netherlands), if my mind remembers correct.

I don't know, since Beach Beach Ball was the last MLP I bought before I started High School (which was in 92). I don't think I really looked for them after that, plus that was the year Hurricane  Andrew hit where I lived, so whatever MLPs there might have been would have been ruined.

I believe I bought my teeny tiny twins around  95... I would have been 11 or so?

I found the Bed and Crib Set in 2001 in a local Toys R Us. Totally random!

In general...93/94 seemed to be when the last bulk cleared out here...but even to this day you see the occasional lucky person actually finding G1s in stock in stores...someone on the old Arena found loads of them in a shop in South Africa if I remember rightly only a year or 2 ago.

I think "officially" Netherlands with the Dutch ponies in 95 was technically the last release into retailers of G1s

i think they were available until maybe 1995 in the UK around me, i can remember i hadn't long started primary school when my parents told me that "they don't make ponies any more" and i cried for hours haha. also, my dad promised me around then that he would take me to Paris because they still had ponies there in the shops when he went for a work trip, so i learned my first bit of french "bonjour, mon petit cheval s'il vous plaƮt" haha "my small horse" :')
i'm still waiting on that trip to buy ponies too...
xx
