Title: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: Twizel on March 04, 2012, 01:42:00 PM
Hiya! I don't know how set up polls on the new Arena, so I'll just ask -

Do you guys have a max spending limit for the price of 1 pony?

For example, one day I'll spend more because I'll have more money =p but for now I'm trying to buy ponies that are under $30 per.
Does anyone else limit that way and OMG is it as hard for you as it is for me? XD

Usually, I'm hard pressed to spend more than $20 for a pony - and I have to really want the pony to spend $20.  :)

Once though, I did spend $50 on a Mountain Boy - but I ended up selling him.

No I dont have a spending limit, but that does not mean that ill pay too much for a pony that is not worth it :)

No, not really.

The most I've ever spent on a Hasbro original is $49.99 (plus $13 P&P!) for a Nirvana that isn't even for me - it's for a swap! For me, I've spent $40 on Ice Crystal or $140 for a custom.

Generally I have a value in mind for a pony and I won't go above - for example I had plenty of opportunities to buy Ice Crystal but I always felt he was too expensive until this one came along.

I'm also limited by my budget, and I'm the sort of person that can't just buy one pony, so I rarely have lots of $$$ to throw at one pony. I am now at the point where the ponies I want to complete my collection are expensive though.

All this said, at this point in my life I could not justify a pony like Rapunzel with a $300-500 price tag. And I think that is what it comes down to. What I spend on ponies I cannot spend on other things so it's a case of prioritising and at the moment, I have student debts and other things that have to be paid first.

on a regular g1, i wouldnt spend more than $12

although a rare pony, or a custom, or any sort of exclusive is a whole different story.

Most I've spent  on a single pony is $30 ish. I got a lovely uk princess  sparkle for 32.70 with shipping from a member here. Soo minty too. <3

The most i send was 10$ for baby billie, and the most I have been willing to pay was 40-50   for Bright Eyes. Wich I didn t have to (I paid 5$ for mine).
But I dont think I would pay that much for any other pony, right now :p

Nothing more than $15. Unless it's something seriously special (Custom/Rare/Rare Nirvana) 1 pony isn't worth it!
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: Chi on March 04, 2012, 02:45:34 PM
I.. Don't really have a limit at the moment, but only if I can do payments.
I can't afford to throw $500 at a pony but I can do so in a few payments of $70+. :)
If I want it, I'll try my best to afford it! :lovey:
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?

Depends very much on the pony and the circumstances.  I'll pay the going rate for a pony if I want her, and if I can afford her.  The afford part is the main thing - I'll never go into debt for my hobby.  I also do most of my Pony shopping for the year (aside from G4s of course) at the Fair every year, so I have a specific goal (shopping time) that I'm saving up for.  Or I'll save up for a specific pony and won't start shopping for that pony until I have the money ready.

I also think it depends on the pony though the most I have spent on one pony is 45 dollars. I think she was worth it to me though or else I wouldn't of got her.

If it were a pony I really loved, I can see myself dropping no more than $150 max and it wouldn't happen often. Maybe in the future if things are bright I can splurge way more often, but in my current position in life I cannot justify that much for a single pony.

Most I spent so far was $25 so... it'd really have to be one I loved. Like an argie winger. >_>

Post by: Sandi on March 04, 2012, 04:18:19 PM
Right now it's about $10 because I don't have much money.

The most expensive pony I bought was Mimic that costed $75 though.
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: tikibirds on March 04, 2012, 04:23:27 PM
I would go up to $150 for some of the more HTF Nirvana ponies. I like the bright colored Argentina ones best.
Normally though, I usually stay under $30.

I don't have a limit, but it depends on how much I want the pony and how much money I can spend on said pony.
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: babystarz on March 04, 2012, 04:33:07 PM
Nope. I mean, I will have a cap on a particular pony. For example, I won't pay more than $50 incl. shipping for a German Baby Lemondrop, but the limit is higher for Baby Blubberchen or a TAF baby. It really comes down to how much money I have to spend :P

Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: KaibaGirl007 on March 04, 2012, 04:40:08 PM
There have been a few ponies I've paid a pretty penny for, like Tux and Greek Peachy, that I really wanted but normally I won't go over $35 and at the moment there's no way I could justify spending over $100 for a pony no matter how rare they are. I even managed to get all six of my mountain boys for under $35 each. The key to it is patience as there is always another one just around the corner on evil-bay  ;)
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: ZettaMomo on March 04, 2012, 04:48:05 PM
It depends on how much I want the pony/how rare it is/how much money I have to spend right now.
At the moment I think I would only want to spend about $15-$20 on a single pony. If it was a pony that I really wanted I might consider paying more.
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: littlexflitter on March 04, 2012, 05:47:15 PM
I'm sure I have a limit, but at the moment I don't know what it is. If there's a pony I really, really, really want, I won't let dollar value get in my way. I won't overpay, but if the market price is high, I won't try to scrounge up a deal at a flea market or what-not instead.
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: terabithianprince on March 04, 2012, 05:48:30 PM
Normally I won't go over $35-40 for a single pony but I will make exceotion if it's a pony I really want or it's needed to complete a set. :)
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: windsong on March 04, 2012, 06:03:58 PM
Hmm... I'm pretty much where you are--not wanting to go over $30 (or at least not by much if I would). One day I'll cave and splurge to get a Mountain Boy. :P
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: Dyzarktarzk on March 04, 2012, 06:21:40 PM
Actually the limit is what I can afford and the moment AND the pony in question...

Even if I will spend thousands on a single piece of plastic, if I don't have the money, is a no go =P

On normal, I usualy do not buy ponies over $20.00 unless I have money and can buy more than a single pony =3, and on the flea market, I don't buy ponies over $3.00 (I'm cheap).
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: Baby Sugarberry on March 04, 2012, 06:26:27 PM
It depends on the pony in question.
I'm down to 28 ponies missing from my retail release G1 collection, so most of them are not going to be terribly cheap to acquire.  That said I've gotten some great deals here and there, most expensive purchase to date was Mimic, for 90$.  I'm not expecting any of the others I'm after to even come close to that price.
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: toralei on March 04, 2012, 06:35:21 PM
Usually I like  to keep it under 20 USD (including shipping). My G1 collection is pretty new, though, so I haven't really moved up to the tier of the more HTF ponies.
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: Oneleo1 on March 04, 2012, 06:47:18 PM
I've been known to drop a couple hundred on a pony that I really want....but I don't do that often :)

I really don't have a set limit...but I do try to keep it reasonable :)
Title: Re: What's the most you'll pay for a pony?
Post by: Saber-Toothed Crow on March 04, 2012, 06:52:39 PM
My limit depends on how much money I can afford to spend at the time, and how rare the pony is. I don't have a massive collection of G1s, so I'm focusing on getting the less expensive ones for now. $35-$40 is the most I've spent, though I'm willing to shell out more to get Mimic and the Mountain Boys someday.

L-i-m-i-t ... ?  :what: whats that?  :lookround: :good:

I'm not admitting the most I paid for a pony so far :P  really though - it depends on the pony, how rare it is, how much I want it, and (most importantly) if I haz the monies for it at the time (or if I can borrow the monies from hubby until later ;)   )

When I get a job, I'm going to try and save up for Rapunzel, the most expensive pony there is (about $600 right now).  Mind you, she's nowhere near as expensive as an original 1997 Princess Diana Beanie Baby (highest on eBay is $2 million, followed by $999,999).

Recently though, I spent $60 on G2 Silver Glow.  But with her wings and very few imperfections, it was well worth it. :)

I think the most I've spent on a single pony without playset is $25-30 which is what I spent on my 3 MIB art/fair ponies.  I don't think that I could bring myself to spend more than $20 on a single loose pony.  I'm contemplating trying to do some art trades for ponies to avoid the money issue.

Post by: Okiedokieloki on March 04, 2012, 10:05:44 PM
Most I've spent on a single pony is about $17 on my FS Twilight Sparkle. As for the most I will pay, it depends on the pony. For G4 stuff I'll pay whatever I know is the lowest in store price, and I'm a coupon fanatic so I get deals wherever I can. Euro exclusives are an exception, about $20 each is my max for those.

Beyond that, what gen it's from, it's condition, whether it's still MIB, and how much I like the pony will factor in to how much I'm willing to pay for it. My budget will determine when I buy something. So if I want a pony, I'll put a price cap on it and if I can't afford it now I'll just have to save up until I can.

I have caps for specific ponies/groups, based on their market value versus my level of "want".
For example:

"Common" G1 $15
Wingers $20
Mountain Boys $50
Nightlight $150

Edit, I've recently purchased Nightlight, and apparently $150 was not my top price for her.
Funny how things change when you are close to having your grail, eh?

I might be alone here, but there is no maximum for what I am willing to pay for something I want, haha!  That being said, I very much take into consideration how rare the pony is, and how rare the pony is in the condition it's in.

As an example, I might have an idea for what I would be willing to pay for a TE Bright Eyes.  But if one came up with absolutely no caner or age marks, I would not think twice about spending $100 for her...

I'll pay whatever the pony is worth.   I don't really have a limit.  I won't OVERpay for a pony unless it's a set-completer or one that means a lot to me.

After a lot of thought, I think my upper limit is about 200. But that would have to be one very special pony! I can certainly see myself spending 20-50 on a pony without much guilt (if that's what it's worth, and if all my bills are paid...).

I have trouble spending $25 on a single pony, and my max is $50 (with a little wiggle room, of course). But there are very, very few ponies I'd spend more than $30 on.

Well, it depends on what kind and how desperately I want it. For example, my Skywishes cost me a whopping US$52 (beating out my Scootaloo by almost three US dollars). And I know if I do get the chance to snap up my grail, it will cost me a few thousand.

^This! Though I have a hard time -not- spending my pony money, so the high dollar ponies aren't always something I can buy. As it is, the most I've spent was for my minty Ladybird with half of her egg and the cardboard stand (pricy, but so worth it :lovey: ).

Well I never thought I'd be spending in the $100s & I don't that often although my absolute max would probably be around $500. She would have to be a grail & worth it though. I don't think I could justify a grand at this stage, half is enough :)

Well as I have no money no ponies but online I my upper limit is £30 and I tend to factor shipping in too. Carboots/Charity shops I wouldn't spend over £5 unless it was say really mint, rare, playset, etc. I remember getting screwed over in my early days when I payed £2.50 for what turned out to be really baity G1 ponies

Thinking more aobut it...

I'm missing a little over 150 (153) G1 US collection, and missing almost all the MO ones, by luck, I have some of the expensive ones that I found for a good price (way less than $20) (MO Mommy, Pretty Mane Scribble, Birthday Baby Pony Baby Gametime).  But I'm trying to get myself to get enough money to have at least the US complete collection =D  (even if that means starving at my university while being all day prisioner on it *j/k*)

As a broke (soon to be) student, I would like to say I stay under 15$ for ponies, but in all honesty, I rarely buy ponies other than thrifted ones, which I pay something like 39cents or so for each.
My entire collection of ponies, not including Cheerlie's School House has cost me about 7$ or so.

God I'm cheap...... I just can't justify spending that much on a pony when I could buy a new computer part, or a pretty dress or groceries!

Um... I'm cheap... I think I don't spend more than $5 on a pony, and that is G1's included.  I buy in lots generally where the price is still less than $5 per (and that's including shipping... needless to say, I dont buy many on ebay).  I've gotten a lot for free.  This year, 2012, I've spent $10.50 total on ponies... unless you count the carousel I bought using a TRU gift card...

The sky's the limit ;) Depends on the pony and what funding I have at the time. I generally don't pay more than they're worth, unless I realllly want them and they're very hard to find, but I've bought a 3-of-a-kind pony and paid a hefty sum for her and I'd do it again for another rare pony when I have the funding :)

Those most I've paid for a single pony was like 5.86, free shipping.

I think my folks would kill me (supposed to be saving for a car) if I dropped more than 10-12 bucks on a pony. That would be the highest at this point I would go for any pony. Luckily, I am really into collecting G4's and I can get the single packs for 5 bucks a piece. :D

I only have the craving for one more expensive pony, and it's a G1.. the only one I want. I believe she's called Dancing Butterflies or something of the sort. I am a huge sucker for yellow ponies. My G3 Pearly Pie and G4 Fluttershy are my two favorite ponies I own. <3

I just can't see spending more than 12 bucks max on a single pony when there's endless cute ones out there I could get for cheaper.  I only make 7.40 an hour and only work 4 days a week due to stress/psychological stuff so my paycheck is around 115-130 a week. I don't like to go over 20-30 bucks for my crazy spending money which varies from stuff I collect, to just random crap I see and want.

But then there's that tax return sitting in the bank.. imagine all the ponies I could buy with all of that!  :P

Hm... I haven't encountered my limit quite yet. I won't pay more than I think it's worth, which is relative.
The most I've paid is for my most recent purchase, the set with G4 Skywishes, which came to $45 after shipping.
I have a feeling that if G4 Minty is an exclusive I might end up having to pay more. I'm currently considering what if FS :muffin: Pony/Ditsy is a Comic con pony, what my limit is gonna be on her. I'll have to wait and see when/if the time comes. A lot is going to depend on market value and how much of a priority I feel she is at the time I think.

Right now the problem I'm facing is that I want to buy these G4 sets because of all the cute lil accessories... but that means so many duplicate ponies!  ARGH!

I hear you on this one! That's how I ended up with so many Sweetie Belles and Twilight Sparkles...
I want them but... I don't want to pay for a duplicate pony that'll just take up space since I'm not really in the mood for customizing. :(

I can't tell you what the most I WOULD spend on a pony is, because I've been pretty broke lol. But, the most I HAVE paid for a pony was $60.00 for a french white hair bowtie...who I resold the following year for $160.00 not bad. lol.

The most I'd spend is $15-$20. But for a special HTF pony that I've wanted for a while I may be willing to spend up to $30 :) I'd like to spend more, but don't have the funds :p

As I'm a student / volunteer, I don't have much of an income.. the most I'd spend on an individual pony is £15, which works out around $24 for you American pony folk. :)

When it comes to t-shirts however.. I'd probably go up to around £25 ($40).

I only collect G4 FiM ponies anyway!

I know, right?  I have 3 Twilight right now, and I really want Scootaloo but I already have the other three in the school pack, and Star Dreams is cute but I have Applejack x 2 already... I guess I could try customizing them.  That might be fun... but I've never rehaired before, and would want to airbrush them instead of painting with a brush.  That would get even pricier.

But wouldn't it be cool to buy all the playsets and make an entire G4 Ponyville from them all on the diningroom table?  My kids would LOVE LOVE LOVE that!  :D

I have pretty much all the g3 ponyville playsets lol >< They're huuge and there are way too many of them. There's just no place for them so unfortunately right now they've been relegated to the basement.

The most I'd pay for a playset? $0.00  :P  No more! Unless It's the only way to get the pony (new wedding castle...argh!)

Looks like $25 for a HTF pony and shirt. My iPhone case with Fluttershy on it cost $40 though.

Maybe $35 (including shipping) for my grail. But that would be a big splurge for me. Other than that, I won't spend more than $10 on a single pony.

I tried saving around $450 that I told myself not to spend on ANYTHING just for my grail later this month...And I did it!
So, I'd say if I save for it, I'd pay just about anything. Even if that means cutting back on a lot for a while. :faint:

I'm lactose/milk protein intolerant, if I drink a pint of milk will you pay for my fart's?

I want to e-mail this thread to Rowan Atkinson, he could read it out like his school master sketch!

Sorry, being somewhat childish, but come on, a thread full of people saying "fart"?! Irresistible!

Damn it! Just twigged!
