Title: Can someone ID my newest bait pony?
Post by: hikari_amaya on February 28, 2012, 02:28:14 AM
I might possibly restore her, or make her into a carasol horse :) I stumbled upon her while looking for a bait Mommy Apple Delight because i love her pose :)

The lister advertizes her as Sparkler, but I looked for others but no such luck.

She is the Merry Go Round Pony named Sparkler :) I think she's rather sought after?

I agree she is the 2nd hardest to find in that set next to Diamond Dreams. She is truly a great pony! You'll see once you get her! You'll want to restore her ;)

I would totally restore her, as shes hard to find! Her paint looks great, and her hair can be fixed pretty reasonably too! You paid 15.00$ for her, thats kind of alot imo for a bait pony. You can buy baits much more cheaply than that. I would keep her and continue your efforts to find a truly bait worthy pony!! Congrats of getting her! Shes lovely!

O.o I found a rare pony?! Diff restoring now :) But shes missing her tail! I dont know if Dollyhair would have her color! Thats why I bought her as bait!

Yep, I spent the money because she was unique :)

I would give her new hair and a clean and she ll be lovely....congrats on a great find! She is not super rare but she doesnt come up as often as you would think...

You should check out sales/trades if you are looking for bait ponies at good prices, someone somewhere usually has something to offer and you wont have to over pay too much on ebay

EDIT...dollyhair do have the colour...just cant remember what its called off the top of my head someone here will know or ask over in customs maybe

I've bought some cheap bait ponies, got 3 or 4 heading my way :) but she was different and shes not on the main ebay either it was in the stores i found her, no time limit :) If DH has the color then awesome :D

Still want a Merry Go Round Pony though :) But a bait one, since I'm now restoring Sparkler :)

You should try for Sunnybunch if you want a bait Merry Go Round she is certainly the most common so you ll probably get her at the best price and, if my experience is anything to go by, the worst condition lol!

I want to say her dollyhair match is "Mermaid" but I would double check that in customs!

I've found a few auctions :) theyre running around the same price as Sparkler. But thats ok I like her saddle better than Sparkler's, I think she'll be a fun restore project :)

A pony missing a tail DOES NOT make them bait!!! Especially G1s!!!!

I collect G1s without tails on purpose, and if a missing tail is the only/biggest flaw its very easy to get a new tail if so desired.

Uhhh yeah.  I am SO glad you asked us first before ruining a perfectly good G1!  :)  Hair is sooooo easy to replace.  Are you kidding me - collectors have been restoring for 30 years, you think that we'd have come up with a solution by now. ;)

But yeah, Sparkler is HTF and worth around $18-35, depending on the market.

She looks like she's in really nice condition, congrats!

Just thought I'd drop by with this link: https://sites.google.com/site/mlphaircolorguide/g1year7 (https://sites.google.com/site/mlphaircolorguide/g1year7) to a pony hair matching site. Like Hathorcat said, it seems the colour you'll want is Mermaid.

Collective sigh of relief from all ponyfolk with the news you're restoring her.
G1's are always a restore for me, unless they are truly manky.

good luck and great find!

Thank you for asking first! It would have been really sad to see a sought after pony baited. She's nowhere close to being in bait condition. :/ Most people here sell baits for under $5 (depending on the specific pony of course) so I'd also say she wouldn't be worth baiting anyway! Sparkler is a real beauty. I adore mine.

You might want to try asking around for a donor tail as well. I don't know how common that hair color is, but another customizer or restorer might have an extra.

Just so you know, they do make carousel fakies. Cheap and fun to bait and easy to come by. The baby carousel fakies look very mlp while the moms look a bit different in the face. If you post for a circus or carousel fakie in the wanted threads I'm sure somebody will have some for sale. You might only pay 50ยข to a dollar and don't have to bait a perfectly good G1.

Mommy Apple Delight is also the EXACT same mold as a crumpet pose fakie. PLEASE don't bait a mommy Apple Delight. Crumpet fakies are easy to come by and should cost less that $3. PLEASE stop baiting G1s when there are so many fakies out there with the same molds!!!!!! This Mommy FLicker I made is from a crumpet pose fakie.

I can tell you for sure this is a Hasbro mold too because if you look in the right light on these fakies, you can sometimes see the faintest impression of the seashells that make up G1 Seaflower's symbol. She is the same mold as mommy Apple Delight.
