Title: Sad about :muffin: Pony being removed.
Post by: MrPony on February 26, 2012, 05:04:52 PM: I really love :muffin: Pony. I love that she is different and this makes me feel really bad. If you have not seen it :muffin: Pony`s eyes have been changed to be just like every other ponies, her voice changed and name removed all together on Itunes.

You might not like her but i thought it was great that she was different, I guess she is going back to being a background pony.
This sends a horrible message that if your different you can just change it and make it go away.

They changed it because it was really, really hurtful and upsetting to a lot of people. I can't understand why anyone would have a problem with something hurtful being changed to be less so.

Oh, well - no point in sitting around and being sad about it, regardless of how :muffin: Pony looks/sounds, we all still like My Little Pony, things will move on, and eventually everyone'll settle down. ^^

Post by: fingerpaints on February 26, 2012, 05:51:17 PM: I found :muffin: Pony cute, but, totally understand why someone would be offended, if they just left it as a "mistake" instead of grabbing it, running with it and making the pony "disabled" as a joke, it wouldn't have been so offensive to those that find it offensive.

I personally don't care either way, but can see why people would be offended. Its a childs show too, not intended for adults, we need to remember that as well.

"Fixing" her was not the right solution. She didn't need to be "fixed", there was nothing wrong with her. It's RD's attitude that should have been changed.

I do understand them changing her voice since that was an actual a mistake, even if it is kinda forced sounding and a little too saccharine.

i have autism and i am not offended, my cousin is disabled and absolutely adores :muffin: Pony because he had a pony he could relate to ... i think this is a set back ... and how was her character "bad" anyways ... a lot of people use "derp" when they do something silly or stupid, i know it's been among my friends for ages because one of us would stumble on a flat floor and would say "derp" and we'd all laugh after saying "i saw the carpet reach right out and grab ya!" or the other day at work i was carrying a ream of paper and one end came unglued and needless to say lot's of paper went lots of places so i laughed, said "derp" and everyone helped me pick up and some one said "yeah, you really didn't want to carry it to the printer anyways right?" and another said "500 PICK UP!" lol to me it's always just been a thing to say for a regular clutzy moment of supreme silliness lol cause i mean who REALLY expects a ream of paper to puke itself onto the floor while carrying it ten feet to the printer? lol

... and shouldn't they change Hayseed Turniptruck too? ... hayseed is a highly offensive ... and well he's a LOT more offensive characterization in my opinion ...

i guess i'm not really upset or angry ... just really dissappointed and sad ... i thought she was a charming little pony who was amazing in her own right and embraced herself to the utmost, just like every other pony. and it's not like her "real" name of ditzy doo is any better ... where ditzy is derogatory remark towards women ...

This...and I don't mind one bit about her name being removed both because I don't like calling her something that implies "stupid" and because they've never used fan-names before. (and I actually do like her new voice, surprisingly)

The problem wasn't that she was different. Everyone loved having someone a bit different in the show. The problem was the she was treated and protrayed as a caricature of people with disabilities, called a name that is used to insult disabled people, voiced with a very typical mockery of a 'disabled' voice and treated awfully by Raindow Dash. But thank you for mocking and belittling other people's hurt because it didn't bother *you*.
The problem was never with her eyes, and I'm disappointed they changed that, too. But I'm glad they changed everything else.

If you weren't offended or hurt by it, fine - but other people and other *children* were.

Though, her new voice does feel rushed. Not sure if we'll see a third iteration of her voice, but I'd like to hear it.

I stopped walking on eggshells for people long ago. Because if you give them an inch they will take a mile....now what else will they deem "offensive"

Edit- oh and her voice actor thought she was male the first tiime >.<

I'm not upset over this but I'm not happy either, and I think now there's gonna be a giant brony riot over this because of how popular :muffin: Pony is in the brony community. But as far as I know this only happened on iTunes, because one of my friends said that the unedited version is still played on tv (but I might need some confirmation on this!). But I like :muffin: Ponies new voice so much better!

So we should just let offensive and hurtful names and actions slide, in a *kids* tv show? If they start swearing and calling people homophobic or racial slurs, should we just get over that, too, because we're just 'deeming' it offensive? People seem to be forgetting that this is a show for children, not adults, and that they should be the top priority. If even one or two kids were hurt by the portrayal of ':muffin: Pony', then I'm happy it was changed. I couldn't care less how many bronies or adults are upset that their beloved pony got changed, because they're adults. They can deal with it.

Honestly, i'm neutral about it all.
:muffin: Pony never was a great name. As an internet meme, yes. As a well written character, no.
The only thing that bothers me is that the animation/voice acting looks a bit off when Dash talks.
As for the voice. The old voice was "okay". But is her being voiced now by someone who didn't think she was a guy really that terrible?
The only bothersome thing is that they changed the eyes. Since that really is a part of her.
But at the same time i can understand why Hasbro did this.

People loved the fact that the christmas themed episode didn't mention christmas because that would be more "neutral". Now Hasbro did the same thing to :muffin: Pony. Made her neutral in case someone out there gets offended. Didn't Faust even say she had trouble getting the word "egghead" into the show? Honestly, while the intentions of Studio B were good. I think putting :muffin: Pony in there like they did wasn't a smart move for several reasons.

I did too, because I didn't realize you did. Haha oops. Mine also got locked/deleted.

I will say my opinion again, though. I'm really glad about the voice change, I think she sounds much better now. ^_^

I also really like that they changed Rainbow Dash's lines to sound less furious. She sounds just annoyed now, which is how she acts to most people when things don't go her way lol. Her reaction to :muffin: Pony in the original is what really bothered me, so I'm glad they toned that down a bit.

I really do wish Hasbro/Studio B would have been a little...a lot more careful with this character. She could have been "different" but still not offensive...that really should not have been hard.
