Title: OK - so what country is this moonstone?
Post by: maycrestmom on February 24, 2012, 02:54:41 AM
Well I couldn't find a match in the gallery, and so I was typical conservative on my bid on this... and I couldn't stay up to snipe at the end of the auction = oh well

Well, in the description it says it Hong Kong 1983... so I guess unless the seller is wrong, I'd say it's a regular Moonstone. Although the colours in the photo look so bright it also caught my eye the first time!

I would speculate that the picture looks a little enhanced to be honest....

I would guess the thought is she could be the german version from the regenbogen set but with a picture thats been touched up a little thats a tough call to be certain on...

yeah, the no silver in the picture is what caught my eye and it just didn't look like a regular moonstone with the red hair as well ...
but I hadn't thought of the picture actually being enhanced - man, I so assume sellers are honest - but yeah, if it's only a HK foot, than maybe somebody just painted on the symbols.

Boy if that's the case, I'm glad I got outbid... still - would german be a candidate?

She looks like the german version - she has no glittery symbols =)

The first streak looks red but it's just the light.

I agree that it looks most like the German version (non-glittery symbols)

Something's weird though:  both the planet AND the ring around it are blue.  Isn't the planet usually silver?  I wonder if the symbols have been touched up (incorrectly).

Aww man, I hope someone didn't pay that kind of money to just get a regular pony with touchups :(

Yeah the all blue is a little odd...the only Moonstone I can think off the top of my head who has all blue symbols is Peru Moonstone...who this clearly isnt...and the matt symbols give her the impression of German...maybe a German variant who missed the silver in the factory?

If you pop the picture into PS and adjust the hue/sat until her eye and body are normal colour, the hair adjusts as well...the picture has certainly been "improved" a little but that certainly doesnt explain the all blue planet as KPF mentions.

yep = I agree withyou, lilico = the all blue planet was weird/not expected when I saw her ... and yeah, I hope it's not a retouch and maybe we find someone snagged a variant german :-)

Even though the Auction  Says 1983, she looks like the Rerelease version of moonstone that came out in the Rainbow Set.I remember when I got one of those in a lot and I was Freaking out because she was so different until I flipped her over and saw the year on the foot.  I don't have a picture for comparison though, wish I did.  If that is the case here, boy the seller really cleaned up.

she does look a little odd, the lighting seems off in the picture.

she has the regular hoof markings though, what i do notice is her symbol is all blue and not blue and silver as others have pointed out. she could possibly be german.

here is a picture of german moonstone

wow = that is a beautiful pic PKW! I was so rationalizing if I snagged this hoping it was a legit variant I'd pair her up with an italy blue :-) someday... so yeah, looks like its german than...

man, I hope whoever won her is here so the puzzle can be solved as to why the whole planet is blue = boy do I hope it's not marker
