So I've been having some fun hanging things in my apartment lately. I've lived there 3 years and never hung anything up because my apartment complex is super picky that if you so much as chip the paint, there goes your deposit. And then the other day I was reading a tip and tricks book for around the house when I was on my break at work. It said to find a wall stud you can use a strong magnet to look for a nail or screw in a stud and the magnet will stick to it or repell from it depending on which side of the magnet is on the wall. I felt so stupid when I read that. I could have had stuff sticking to my wall with magnets the whole time! So I went home and used some strong ceramic magnets I had and sure enough I was able to hang something as heavy as a 4x6 picture or a sheet of paper to screws in the studs with those magnets. And then the next day I went to the hardward store and got some super strong neodynium magnets that hold up a little more. One could easily hang an 8x10 picture sans frame.
I was finally able to hang my pony poster on my pony room wall with 4 magnets as close to each corner as the wall studs would allow. Please ignore the curled corners as I just uncurled the poster to try and see if it would hold up.

I played with a few x-mas ornaments and a ceramic magnets stuck to the wall.

And most fun of all, I managed to find some strong enough screws or nails in the wall studs to have spider-ponies! Some ponies had their hoof magnets the wrong way so the repelled from the screw, and most adults were too heavy, but I've got ponies stuck all over the walls in my house right now.

I thought I'd post this because a lot of people live in apartments were they aren't supposed to nail stuff to the walls, and sticky strips often peel the paint off too. Of course there are some flaws because magnets have one end that attracts to other magnets and one that repells so sometimes you're running a magnet along the wall to find a spot and it will repell instead of stick. Also at places like my mom's house, the walls are really thick, so I was able to stick a magnet to her wall but it didn't hold much weight.

Haha! Wallclimbing ponies! How fantastic!
-
That is awesome. I'd never have though of that.
I'm not supposed to out anything on the wall here either, but there were 2 hooks already on the wall and so I just rotate what I have hanging from them :)

What a brilliant idea, thanks for sharing! Glad I never bought a stud-finder, I can just use my g3s :accomplished:

Wow!! How awesome!
-
Omigosh! That is awesome! And...a new way to display my G3s! :D
-
haha! I want to try that now, too!
-
That is totally awesome! I just use the 3M wall strips xD I haven't had any problems with them peeling the paint or leaving a residue :)
-
LOL Too fun!!!!

That is an awesome tip, thanks for sharing!

Ahaha, I love the wall climbing ponies! So need to do that while my boyfriend isn't home just to see the look on his face when he sees them on the wall. XD
-
Wow, that is amazing! I love seeing those hanging ponies!
-
Ha! That is cool. I may have to try that sometime!
-
lol, such a cute idea. :)
I'm lucky our new apartment allows small-sized nails in the wall.
-
I just wanted to try it for the fun of seeing ponies hanging on the wall but the ponies were too heavy for the nails. However a LPS gecko is now on my wall looking like a real gecko.
-
Most of my adult ponies couldn't hang out, I didn't think of LPS. Gotta have some lps frogs and lizards in my bathroom.

These are the best things ever made. I would seriously try them.
I use them at Christmas to hang stuff that otherwise would require that extra hole in the wall. And seeing that we just remodeled our house, I am forbidden to use a hammer. Just pull them off and no marks, no sticky stuff, nothing!

Even one of the guys at the hardware store told me that he used three command strips and two came off well and one took paint with it. I am not risking a $650 deposit to hang a picture.

Oooh what a great idea! My landlord isn't so picky, but I've never liked putting holes in my wall.
-
That is an awesome tip, I never would have thought to try that :D

I can't wait to stop over and find ponies everywhere (including the bathroom)!
(You've got so many g3's it would be awesome to see a rainbow of ponies from top to bottom on your fridge!)
