Title: How to define a country when..
Post by: hokuspokus on February 11, 2012, 07:19:59 AM
a pony doesn't have a country under their hoof?

I was just thinking about this. For most ponies, we know where they are coming from, even when they don't have countries under their hooves. But i see (for example) a lot of new Venezuelan ponies pop up. Have they country markings? If not, how did you guys identify them as Venezuelans?

This is my question with more ponies and their countries. I wouldn't be able to identify the really special ones you almost never see. I am curious how the community did this.

Help me getting some more info on this subject! :lovey:

There are certain traits with some countries, such as the squishness of the Colombians
and the rock hardness of the South African ponies.  Tail configuration, even the way the eyes are done.

The pony Spots hosted here have a lot of information.  I did a Mexico pony spot with the help of two of our members in Mexico and there was a lot of information in that to help id Mexican Ponies.

If you have not read the spot lights here it's a good place to start.  And then asking questions like you have asked.  The Venezuelan ponies that are coming out not almost all have been in the Box marked from there.  There is a Commercial on You tube with some of the Peru ponies, but those are all marked with the company name.

As shelti says, there are characteristics of each country that help us to identify. But some of the Colombians and Venezuelans were considered unknown for years! It wasn't until we got some confirmed ponies that we were able to determine where some of them came from.

Each country made their ponies in such a way that its features could be differed from those of US and UK counterparts. Such examples have already been given by Shel-ti and LG. We've also had members from Venezuela confirm that the latest ponies are from that country.

I see the spotlight pictures are in the Nirvana Gallery, the actual spots with info but no pictures are still on the old site.
I don't know if they have moved them over yet.  Ladyg or pkw would know if they are hiding on the new site.  If you go to the old site to keep from being directed here, use your back arrow.  I have been keeping my Classifieds updated over there and have no problems accessing stuff.

No, unfortunately the old posts haven't been moved across yet, which includes the spotlights.
