Title: How do you feel about the Venezuelan ponies?
Post by: tuneful87 on February 04, 2012, 04:44:08 PM

How in the world were they undiscovered for so long?

I joined the MLP community late, meaning that when I became a member here, basically every foreign pony had already been discovered. Or so I thought. I always imagined how AMAZING it would be if new G1 ponies were discovered. I expected to totally get into the Venezuelan discovery, but I'm being a little blase about it, and I don't know why.

What are your thoughts on them?

(Feel free to try to win me over with pics, too. I'm easily swayed.)

Well I for one think they are really beautiful.. While all the other south american ponies have hair that is prone to frizzing, they actually seem to have silky long beauiful hair that over time does not frizz up . They have beautiful unique eyes and quite unique feel to their bodies. Colombians are rubbery but these venezuelans have a plastic-like texture

I have had two unknown medleys in my collection for many years and its so nice to at last know where they come from.I think new discoveries are what makes pony collecting so fun. If all the ponies out there had already been discovered I think the aspect of collecting would me a lot more stagnant.

if you think about it, the past 2 years have actually been BIG for G1 MLP collecting:  the Colombians were found, Takara MIBs showed up, Venezuela MLPs show up, first loose, then some MIP ones...I think a lot of it is because collecting MLPs is becoming a more 'accepted' hobby, so people who sell collectables are looking for them more then they used to.

But on the other hand, these new things are being found by *sellers* for the most part, not collectors, so it's a little distant.  Instead of a squeeling post of 'OMG!!! G1 FROM _____!!?' in the Brags or the Nirvana boards, stuff is showing up with 'what will you give me for it?' And that kind of puts a damper on the joy, I think.

I'm angry at me because at least 5 years ago I usually to check a lot ML (Mercado Libre) in all countries to just drool at ponies...

There I met the Colombians (before they popped up in eBay...  asked if they sell overseas, said yes, asked how much shipping was... never received an answer, and they were taken down from ML, and then forgot about them until they pop up on eBay...  I recognized them due to one Bow Tie.

Now, how I feel about them?
That I love them!  That means there must be still a lot of unknown ponies over there!

But that's also something that puts me down...  I want to have at least one pony from each country they were made / were exclusive to, but now, I'm afraid I'll never complete this goal ;_;

Unfortunately these kinds of greedy endevours happen no matter what time frame you are talking about.
I remember when I was 14 I got greek blue baby glory MIP for $80 .. Now the greek sellers find the MIE ponies and are asking $2500 for them.
Everybody knows about them now and it is not as fun to find them or buy them. But I love them anyways regardless. Just goes with the nirvana territory I guess

This seems to be my goal at the moment too. Figured it was definitely possible, until Venezuela....
All of them seem to go for so much, but they're absolutely gorgeous. Like Ember said, the hair is unlike any other South American country. It's flawless and they look so clean and beautiful. The eyes are absolutely wonderful as well. Maybe now that so many people that owned them are realizing there's a huge market for them, once in a while a cheap one will slip through. At least that's what I'm hoping.

For me, the Ven ponies aren't really any more or less fascinating than other SA ponies.  I want them because I want one of everything MLP under the sun.  But I can think of other SA ponies that are prettier in my opinion (Brazil peg Truly and rearing pose Milky Way, for example).  I do like the dual mane color on Glacia's Ven Lickety, though; very pretty and unique.  But now that some Ven sellers have realized that there's a market for the ponies in America, I think we'll be seeing more of them here.

I always find it amazing that new ponies are being found after nearly 30 years and its exciting to wonder what treasure may be hiding around the corner....  I love the unique features of the Venezuelan ponies, the beautiful bright colours combos and unusual eyes.  Its as close as we may get to new release G1's so I love seeing the new ones show up...
I was lucky enough to get an unfinished Firefly and although bald he is a very special part of my collection!  I would LOVE a fully haired one and I am so in love with the pink Firefly!  Ahhhh maybe one day....

I love that we're still learning about Nirvana ponies - that's actually what makes me so interested in variant ponies to begin with. There's a special thrill with seeing something new, or finding something out that you no longer get with most of the general G1 line once you've been collecting a while. It's a way of keeping the magic alive :)

It doesn't surprise me unduly we're still finding out about both Colombians and Venuzuelans - as Ember1 mentioned, there have been a few around for years, we just didn't know! It is unfortunate that it's usually sellers that find them, but in a lot of cases,  if it wasn't them, we wouldn't find them at all, or certainly not as much, so it does make them more accessible (and when there are more, prices tend to drop).

I would love to own one at some point, particularly a Tootsie, but I'll have to wait until the prices drop a bit I think, or until I have some extra money!

I definitely enjoy looking at them! As for buying any? I am not sure... When I first saw the Colombians, for instance, I was mesmerized! As I could not afford any more ponies, I had to reject the idea. Nowadays, I would still like to buy one, but I can also live without... I am sure we will see a lot more Venezuelans, so, patience is probably the best advice. We need to see what's out there before making up our minds we "need" one particular pony!

As for prices? That's up to the buyers...

I only have my one Venezuelan, but I'd love to own more. I absolutely love seeing familiar ponies in brand new color schemes, like with Colombian ponies :)  That's where the fun is for me. For instance that blue Cotton Candy or the yellow/blue Blossom are ones I'd love to have.

As for their prices, I do think they'll drop eventually as more show up, just like the Colombian prices did :good: But since they're still very new, it could be a while.

I have pictures of just about all the ones that I've seen (I think I missed getting a shot of the yellow Lickety-Split), but since they're not mine I wanna give their owners a chance to show them off  ;)

Of all the ones I don't have, I think Ember1's got my favorites! :drunk: That white Medley, yellow Blossom, and until LuvMyBoy receives her, that blue Cotton Candy! :drunk:

I find them beautiful but I also find it very weird that so many are popping up MIB. I have a funny feeling that some seller in South America who owns a toy factory is having fun making these in all sorts of crazy colours and is having a great time "fooling" the entire MLP collecting community! But I'm sure that's just me being paranoid :) Still, I would just love to see a couple of these exact same ponies pop up for sale, all damaged and frizzy, because they were actually played with by a child at some point in time!

Anyways, my only wish is that nobody ever finds a Venezuelan version of Heart Throb. The SA version was enough of a shock for me and then I just had to buy her and that put a big hole in my wallet :)

I guess you could have said the same when all those greek MIP ponies popped up around 6 years ago... They were all over ebay constantly. But its just a case of someone finding leftover stock from the 80's ... thank god because its really nice to see how they were marketed. I don't think anyone has ever found a MIB colombian.

You're right about there being quite a few MOC Greeks... I wasn't collecting much 6 years ago and I was definately not collecting Nirvanas so I missed that :) I'd still love to see a "well-loved" Venezuelan pony though!

OK now I have to totally second sillymoosie's paranoia... these "oh look what I happen to have..." kinda things do happen, but it's kinda a obvious coincidence (well of course a toy collector/reseller might connect up with a stash of MLP) given the expertise field/geography.  Please know I don't want to be a killjoy on those with fun $$ to spend and the happygiggles ya get for being "the first kid on the block" = I just happen to be the sort that never got into that "new car smell" if I knew I could get the discount from someone who'd returned their new car a week later = a week old car with 100 miles is still a new car to me, and for $5K less - you betcha I'm more interested

I love love love the bright beautiful colors, but now I am totally scared to be an early adopter sort if there are lots more of these toys out there = and I prefer ponies loose anyway - easier to take glam pictures and all :-)  (Toy Story's Stinky Pete forever ruined it for me as a true collector type, I guess)

happy to see that there are more of these fantastic ponies = yay for the gallery being back to add to the portfolio =  and please keep me posted when the loose ponies start arriving :-)

OK = so am I reading into this but it seems the best explanation is we've had these MIB "no country" ponies in various collections for years and the reason for the appearance now has more to do with confirmed naming of the country than actually just now discovering?  I think that makes sense = I mean folks have been collecting for decades (duh) and it's only the speed of all our internet and social media stuff that allows all the puzzle pieces to be put together quickly

so it's cool to see the ponies properly ID'd and all...

now it makes me wonder what all more folks is hiding in their collections, though...

These MIB ponies are not coming from collectors of My Little Pony, They are coming from Toy Collectors in Venezuela who are collectors of Action Figures or other older toys.
The First ever MIB ponies were brought to us by Figurasdeaccion.  This is when the pieces for the Odd, loose nc ponies have started to fit into place.  The Strange White Tootsie which Helen had in her Collection and is now owned by Kitkatvintage, the medleys owned by ember1 and so on.
We had never seen any come from a collection that have been Mint in the Box.
The ebay Seller Woodgroup, he is also a collector of toys, but not My Little Pony.
The ebay seller I purchased my Eye Candy from on second chance offer is a Barbie Collector.  She was her childhood pony and a gift from her Aunt.
We have not seen a Member here from Venezuela who has one in their Collection and I do know we have at least one Venezuelan member.
So these are not a stash from a MLP collector but either old toy stock or a warehouse find.
The chances of loose ones coming forward will really depend on how the word gets around in Venezuelan
and then we will see the condition.

They are beautiful but I just can't justify spending that much money on one pony when I have to complete my UK and USA collection first. No doubt I will cave in eventually but not until more have come out of the woodwork and prices come down.
Title: Re: How do you feel about the Venezuelan ponies?

Before we see many loose ones, I think we will see MIB prices at a price level where a person can remove a pony from the box and be comfortable with it.
I feel there are more boxed ones around then loose ones, at least for now.

Thanks for the explination. All of a sudden they are everywhere and I have no idea where they came from! Its wild. Perhaps I am not watching Ebay closely (which I am not), but I feel like I am missing out!

The ebay seller I purchased my Pink Blossom just listed two MIB, another blue cotton candy and aother tootsie.  She's a Barbie collector and her husband is into 80's toys.  I did not ask where they got these, but right now there are about 3 or 4 toy collectors from down there selling MIB ponies now.

I think someone opened the Warehouse storage area for the old Factory and had a sale  (I am just guessing here)   Pretty soon a person will be able to just buy a mint in card one and take it out of the box the way these are showing up.

We've seen these floods of MIB ponies from a certain country before. It happened with Argentina ponies around 2001-2003, then again with Greek ponies in 2003-2004. Before those times both groups were extremely rare. In those cases, a seller or sellers realized there was a market for their lucky finds & the market was flooded & prices dipped to an all-time low after initially high prices. I'm sure that's the same thing that's happening now, as Shelti has described above.

I'm glad to see more pop up on ebay and am keeping my eyes peeled for when the prices fall somewhat. I'd kill for those Cotton Candies. Glad to know more are out there. Just wish I could get one loose. The box doesn't really appeal to me and adds to the high price. I just want a loose nice one. I love their colors and the way the plastic is.

I really like them! I bought Figurasdeaccion's orange symbol Starshine and I can't wait to see her. I just love her soft colours.

Prices are already falling to a more reasonable value for them, since quite a few are being sold at once on ebay and here. I think MIB and even mint loose ones will still retain a high value though. Their quality and unique colour variations plays into it. Just like other nirvana's that have been out for years. (*cough, cough - greeks*). I wonder if many loose ones will be found?  Sometimes it doesn't happen that way, like with the afore-mentioned Greeks. In any case I hope we see some more two-tone hair versions!

I was wondering this too hathorcat... Applejack and Bowtie who are mentioned on the box seem to be missing in action at the moment...  However, many ponies aren't mentioned on the box and some don't have name labels so I wondered if they were in the correct boxes?

I was thinking were these ponies we are seeing pop up the end of a line that was produced or the beginning of a line that were never produced?
Was wondering this because as yet we haven't seen any of the loose Venezuelan's that have been around for a while like the 2 Medley's, yellow Starshine & yellow and blue Cherries Jubilee turn up in there boxes.
I suppose these MIB ponies could also be surplus stock... maybe if some show up loose from other sources we will know for sure if they made it to sale.
I'm guessing the unfinished green ponies were factory trials for mold or colour that were hanging round the factory and just got thrown in the box with the MIB ponies

There are so many questions about these ponies that are whirling round my head right now!

How many more do you think these Venezuelan toy collectors are hoarding?!

I'm waiting for a MIB Lickety to show up! :drunk: Or even just any MIB Vennie with 2-toned hair :lovey: I'd love to see a blue AJ with pink/coral hair though, since we've seen Cotton Candy, Blossom, Lickety and CJ with those colors :lovey:

She is my favorite too :) . Soft colors, so sweet.

I'm hoping for more Poseys. She is one of my favorite ponies overall, but as a nirvana she is sparse it seems. The only venezuela one so far, not too fond of its bold colors.. it makes me think of pink grapefruit  :lookround: . I would like softer colors on her, a lighter pink. Or a totally different color, like green or lilac.

I like them. Im a fan of anything that has bold colors as opposed to hasbro and their damn use of pastels.
But I doubt I will own one soon..well, maybe if I can find a freakin job.

I also want a columbian

The Applejack is amazing. ^.^
What holds me back from bidding is that her head seems to be slightly discolored. While I feel every venezuelan is a little wonder, the collector in me keeps hoping for a perfect one.
Then again we don't know if there is going to be anymore of them. She could be unique, or it could be the sellers have loads of them... to bid or not, it's a gamble these days.
Did you notice how the prices have already come down a bit. From the initial craze when they were $600-900, they now sell for ~$200-400.

The white Cherries Jubilee, wouldn't it be wonderful if they had made her scented..! ^.^ I imagine a modest cherry blossom scent, you know, with a hint of almond.

I'd love the white CJ with pink hair, and I don't even like CJ normally! :drunk: But for whatever reason I just adore that one :lovey:

I've noticed the price drop too, and my wallet's liking the trend

Nice work Shelti : )

Between here and ebay, it's a rough count and a work in progress, I have been trying to save pictures off ebay also.I think the sellers on ebay have slowed the release of ponies to keep the prices high.  I can't wait to see what is yet to come ;)

I think these ponies are absolutely stunning! I just adore the color combinations on many of them, they're so unique. Someday I'd love to be able to own one of the Posey variants for my collection.

I suspect the same, though the prices have dropped anyway. It was to be expected really I suppose!
