Title: OMG I ruined my ponies...
Post by: LilSpark on February 03, 2012, 04:53:11 AM
Ok I am visiting my parents at the moment and I took some of my ponies with me for taking snow pics. I had put them in my new bag I bought a week ago and when I took my ponies out of it they were stained. From the red inside of the bag. I had never expected that. There were some expensive ponies in there so I'm not sure if I should share some pics... OMG what am I supposed to do now???

sunfading sunfading sunfading. It might take awhile to get it all gone, but it should help! (don't stick them in hot water cause hot water sets stains!)

Oh no!!! Thats terrible....I know its no consolation but I have had this happen before - a wonderful seller on here sent me a couple of ponies - the bags they were so carefully wrapped in were almost entirely white with a teeny tiny amount of print on them and this teeny tiny bit of blue ink seeped on to the pony in the bag. I am always amazed by how much ink seems to stain in this manner even when so little and when not exposed to cold or wet....

All I can do is offer pony hugs and consolation and the suggestion of sun-fading?

you *might* be able to remove most or part of the stains using a mr clean magic eraser, or even some acetone on some cotton swabs...but you'll have to be super careful around symbols and the like

aww.. I'm sorry to hear about it :c. Hope you c an get them cleaned c:

And I agree with the sunfading and if that doesn't work try using acne cream that has benzoyl peroxide in it. but that is the ultimate last resort, as it can fade the plastic also. though it has never happened to me.

I know sunfading always works on red and pink. The problem is that we have winter and in Germany we don't even get much sun in summer. So I will have to wait at least half a year...

Aceton, make-up remover and magic eraser didn't work...

I ruined:
1 Squirmy
2 Baby Princess Sparkles
1 Baby Diamond
2 Baby Blubberchens
1 Mimic
1 Peru Moonstone

Can you mail them to a friend who gets more sun?  I would ponysit, but the 6.5 yo and the cats would want to play with them.

I concur with rybett = put a shout out to an aussie (who is having summer) or a US/SoCal member who can get to sunfading those for you now??  I would offer to babysit and fade for ya, but MD won't be warm for a couple more months either = best I can offer is probably to start in April

so sorry to read that = man = tuney had a bag stain some of his ponies for the con I think I read, too = maybe PM if there was any success on restoring...

so hope this saga has a happy turn-about for you!

Oh dear that is awful! I don't thnk anyone has mentioned yet but if you don't get much sunlight you can also try getting an ottlight. I have had wonderful results using it for sunfading.

I'm not sure- I think so. a lot of art supply stores in the us carry them- you could always order one online or get someone stateside to pick one up for you :)

That's terrible. Almost anything can stain ponies. Clear plastic is always best. I hope you can help some of these.

When I went to the RI fair, almost all of my Red Roses got discolored from something that was in the art bag I brought them in. May have been charcoal. Some piggies were damaged too. Thankfully acetone fixed most of them up. Otherwise I'd have been devestated.

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that darling! Maybe you could get that ottlight via ...bay?
On sunfading, well there was a post a few days earlier in which a Gingerbread was to be faded... And someone mentioned that she'd be willing to ponysit for some fading and she is actually located in SoCal... Was it Relcelestia perhaaaaps...? (Sorry RC if this offended you, I just want to help Spark... (AND SQUIRMY!!!) I really dont wanna talk in anypony's name!!!
Hugs to you!

You could try some acetone or non-acetone (for symbols and eyes-- I use it and it works for me). If the dye/stain is still fresh, you could be able to get the stuff off.

I am sooooo sorry!! D: I would be exceedingly horrified, too! I had that happen to me just a couple weeks ago- I brought a pony with me in a purse and somehow there were black smudges all over it when I took it out again. And there wasn't anything that could have created black smudges like that except maybe my cellphone (if the paint rubs off). -hugs-

Oh no that's awful!! Hmm, maybe a light rubbing with Goo-off would work? I've started using it for symbol removal and it's a lot better than acetone. If you don't have access to it in Germany you can send one of the ponies to me and I'll try it for you (carefully, of course, since I've only used it on G4s before).  If you do have it I've found that applying it with makeup sponges works better than cotton balls or Q-tips.

Get yourself a UV light (blacklight) and sit them under that. It does the same as sunfading, just a little quicker I believe.

So sorry to hear that happened  that is terrible :( I wish you luck in sunfading them all back to their original glory sweetie!

:joins in with everyone to create a great mental force that would help the ponies sunfade successfully:

I am sure they will be easily sunfaded considering how the colour probably didn't seep into them, and it's so great of people to volunteer to sunfade them for you :)

GOOD LUCK!!!

You should, they mimic natural light.  You do not need that brand just that style of light.

So sorry that happened to you sparks.

Awww, no. You must be devastated! :(

Good luck with fixing them - I'd agree with sunfading, but be careful - I remember someone who sunfaded a Mimic and it did change her body colour a bit where she was sunfaded!

Wow!  I am so sorry!  Oddly enough this same thing happened to me 26 years ago when I took my Moondancer and Baby Moondancer to school to show my friend.  It was a red bag!  I still have them and I think time must have faded the stains!  I hope you get your ponies fixed!

Don't worry....they are not ruined. Even if it takes a year, sunfading will work. You CAN fix them! Best of luck to you. I would offer help, but upstate NY is not a great place for sun in the winter.

*goes and takes ponies out of red tote* I'm so sorry lilspark :( those are awful gals to stain and I know how terrible it feels. I've stained a few on my couch unwittingly and I just felt sick to my stomach. Watch out also fro paper towels with any kind of designs, that will stain as well. I think with the OTTlight you should be able to fix them fine! That way you wont risk fading their body, only the stains.
