Hey Everypony!
Did anypony notice that the inserts with blind bags had a sticker covering part of the marketing?
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
"3 other figures" was covering up "Special Edition" pony advert.
So does anyone else think this is because Hasbro changed their mind mid-stream? maybe new FiM Fan related?
Thoughts?

No. Are these US or European Blind Bags?
-
those are on the us blind bags I just picked up two today I think the three speical ponies are the clear sparkly ones
-
I didn't notice that but I just checked and there is a sticker on the box and the 1 insert I kept. Odd.
I wonder why they change it like that. Maybe trying to be more clear about what they are :what:
The special edition ones are the clear sparkly ones. It says Special Edition on their cards still. :)

That's right. I have the Sparkly RD and Pinkie Pie, pulled RD's card and it says special edition on it. With that said, there are two variations of sparkly Twilight Sparkle floating around from Wave 1 I think... a Pink version and a Purple version :)

maybe they decided since there weren't going to be fewer of them then any other blind bag pony, they shouldn't call them special edition?

It's most likely that this is their reason.
There's one of each kind in every box of blind bags, so they're not any rarer than their non-sparkly counterparts.
-
yeah that's probably right. but still "special" doesn't necessarily mean "rare"? maybe it does! lol.
anyway, I just think it must have taken a chunk of resources to print a new sticker and have factory workers place it on every. single. insert. especially when the difference seems so small?
I guess i over think things! :P

*grins* kinda OT, but when I was a kid, a friends' mom worked in a factory putting stickers that said 'With Real Beef!' on packages, and after the packing got changed, she brought home tons and *tons* of stickers...we played a game of tag with them, lol! So now I am picturing a bunch of kids running around putting '3 other figures available(not shown)' stickers on each other...
-
Its not over thinking...you have no idea that amount of conversations and resources that would have had to go into such a little change....
I once ran a campaign for a client who couldnt decide on a full stop or an exclamation mark - you should see the volumes of emails back and forth between operations, production, design, marketing and even a couple of directors to decide "exclamation point or not". It delayed the campaign by 2 weeks and cost scary money to change those dang full stops to exclamation points! If you think you over think, try sitting in on most marketing meetings!

it kind of reminds me of those little things before and after commercial break on pokemon. like "who's that pokemon!?" and it would show their silhouette just like those ponies. XD
but after thinking of this, i guess it could have been any pony since they used the shapes of the mane six to base other ponies off of.
-
Perhaps they did it because it was confusing people - all the other ponies are pictured on the packet, but the special edition ponies are just shown in sillouette because they are supposed to be 'secret'?
Jem :)

Interesting find. I felt the sticker thing on the pamphlet, put I did not try and pull it off of mine.
It kinda makes sense though. When I first got my sparkly ones a few months ago before they 'officially' came to America I got the Special Edition Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie and I thought I got some that were super rare! Then I found out that there is 3 of the glittery ones in each box. They are still pretty cool though.
-
It could be because there is a future wave that is all sparkly ponies.

Thats a very good theory...they cant be "special" because they are sparkly when one of the next waves is all sparkly bar 3 of them!
-
I think they probably just did it for overall packaging clarification. It says "collect all 24" and then if you count there is only 21 without looking at the silhouettes so I'm guessing they just did the sticker to fix that. The same sticker is on the back of the foil package and printing a single color sticker to put over the 2 places was most likely just cheaper than reprinting full color foil packages and brochures.

I noticed that too and thought it was silly because as far as I'm concerned, they both say basically the same thing :P I was expecting some sort of typo or silly mistake when I peeled the sticker off, lol.
