Title: Show me your G4 factory errors!
Post by: babymoondust on February 02, 2012, 11:37:42 AM
Y'all left awesome responses to my factory error Fluttershy post (http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,285830.0.html) so far!

It has really peaked my interest, especially for those of you who have a fondness for factory error ponies, so I thought I'd start this thread for you to showcase your unique little beauties! (Or... not so... beauties!...)

Tell us how you got them, maybe you wanted them for their factory error? And just generally say how you feel about them ~ pretty show & tell.  ^.^

My Fluttershy again... she's lookin' atchoo!

If you look closely (full view here (http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6114/6335011269_2601937c04_b.jpg)), the Plumsweet in my avatar has a misplaced eye, I ended up customizing her. (I need to get another though, I love Plumsweet a lot.)

I'm desperate for a G4 with a cutie mark error, but apparently the quality control where I live is really good or something. I've looked so many times, and nothing!

But I do have this RD, a gift from my parents who live somewhere else. Really ticked about her errors (screwed up tail hole, dents, bits of paint).

I dunno if it's my eyes or what, but when people were talking about colour mismatches on G4s between the bodies and heads, I wasn't seeing it. Then I took a good picture of my Twilight Sparkle;

I didn't notice any obvious discrepancies until I put mine in front of a bright light. I guess it must be hard to match the materials exact, since they have pretty different properties.

Yes the blank flank Rarity is ASTONISHING!!      I would have bought her in a heartbeat myself!  She may be worth alot some day.  I have never run across a pony that missed out on their cutie mark.

And I noticed the color difference too on ALL the Twilight Sparkles I have seen in this area as well.  I actually waited a while to buy mine hoping to find one that had the same color head and body but with no luck.  I hate it when the color shades don't match.  And its pretty obvious on Twilight.  My Dewdrop Dazzle is slightly like that as well.  Which sux because she is one of my favorite G4s

I know :( It makes me so sad, I display my Twi on the top shelf for my G4's and the colour difference -really- stands out. It bothers me ;^^ That's an extremely good photograph of the colour difference, btw. The shade differences are not easy to capture in photos. I want an evenly coloured Twilight with a forelock :\ I wonder what the body/head colour is like on the new raised leg version of Twilight, because raised leg Cheerilee's colours are much lighter than her standing versions.

My Honeybuzz has a damaged cutie mark, just a tiny bit of paint missing from the edge of the design. I noticed it just before I deboxed her, dithered a bit about taking her back and finally decided I could live with it. More than about 18" from my face and I can't tell anyway.

My Lulu Luck had this awkward crack in her plastic (It is kinda hard to see in the picture, but it is obvious in person) and all these indents on her face. The pretty much fixed themselves when I boiled her, but the crack is still there.
Hasbro sent me a replacement and said it would be Lulu Luck, but it ended being Flitterheart!  XD  I was okay with it, though, since I was kind of wanting Flitterheart anyways.

I am kinda jealous of that blank flank Rarity. How did that pass through inspection?

I got two ponies with cracks like that. I'm really upset about one of them, because it's my regular sized Luna which I went through a LOT of trouble to find.

The cracks on mine are both near the front seam, though, so, thankfully, they're not as noticeable.

No idea XD I found her clear back at the start of G4, I think I was only the second or third US person to find them~ That first run was full of problems none of the one's I got then were perfect (paint smudges, off center cutie marks, mismatched heads it was a nightmare!) but nothing as cool as my blank flank.

I have a few with dents like you lulu's, not as deep but still annoying :/

will2Bfree - That would upset me if that happened to a Luna! She is one of my favorites, but I haven't gotten a hold of her yet.
Someone before suggested to me that the cracks may be from the plastic not being mixed correctly or something similar.

Sanadaookami - Now I am going to have to keep an eye out for some when I go to the store! I have actually been pretty lucky and have only ran into one factory error on my G4s. Some of mine have the body/head mismatch, but not as bad as some I have seen.

I have a few with slightly mismatched heads, my Royal Ball Rarity has a very loose head, and the Spike that came with that set looks like he had quite the battle with the paint machines. I'll take pictures of the Rarity and Spike and post them up later.

Pardon the blurriness, my camera doesn't have a macro setting.

That awful gap is just as bad no matter which direction I position the head.

And now Spike, poor Spike. To start things off, he's derp-eyed, his back spikes are all messed up, he's got some green dribble on his face, and both of his back legs have this weird dent in them, the opposite side leg dent also has a bright green paint smudge. Compared to my other Spike, this guy is a total mess.

They should just start making ponies with completely different colors for their heads than their bodies, and market the color difference as a special new feature of them.  "My Little Pony, Two-Tone Ponies: Her coat changes color at the neck!..."

Alrighty... So I went to go try and customize my Lulu Luck that I posted earlier and just planned to sculpt something over the funny looking spot. After cutting off her neck plug to look inside I find this!

A big ol' crack in her plastic! And no, I did not accidentally stab her when I was cutting either.

I've only de-boxed 5 sets so far, and out of the 6 ponies, only 1 has come without factory flaws.  It's really depressing.  I don't ever remember finding a G1 with a flaw right off the card.  They range from paint marks, to mismatched head/bodies (I didn't check Sweetie bell carefully enough, because I though they couldn't mess up white =/ ), to gouges in the plastic.  Apple Bloom has half a tail that's 1/2 inch shorter than the other half, but the one that upsets me the most is my camping rainbow dash.  Part of her mane is cut halfway, where is attatched to her leg  when she was in box.  It looks like whatever was used to cut the plastic or the tape, cut part of the mane too.

I finally found the CMC set in Ottawa, but the head/body colour difference of Scootaloo was so bad, I couldn't do it.  Hopefully they'll restock with some better ones.

The rarity I'm customizing has the same issue in the same space! It might just be a problem with the mold?

And lets not forget all of us who have excitedly unboxed a new G4 and inspected every part of them.
Until they got to the tail.
And there was one or more massive chips at the plug hole. That's happened to about 4 out of eleven of my G4's so far.
:yikes:  And my Twilight Sparkle's head/body mismatch is pretty terrible too. And what's worse is the dirt that Hasbro so kindly packs into every box as a little gift to us.

I keep getting ponies that have various factory flaws.  I got one of those Toys R Us blind bag sized pony boxes, and it was like the guy who was monitoring quality fell asleep during production.  Especially Peachy Pie, her left eye is smudged and misplaced.  I also keep getting ponies that either have hair stuck in betweeb the head and the body (coming from the inside of the head,) and ponies with hair strands that are in two holes or more at once. o.o

Most of them are different ponies now, but I might still have that Peachy Pie.

Oh, and I just opened an Applejack and a random rubber band fell out. o.o

They're all like that. It's where the (vinyl?) is molded to make the legs, and it contracts and cracks a little bit as it cools/dries.

I've customed a few G4s and I think nearly all of them had that flaw! I've had plenty that have come with big dents in too. :(

EDIT: Oh! Oh! I had FS Rarity that was missing a shoe too! I didn't go looking to have it replaced because the shoes drive me crazy anyway, so I just pack them away.

My fashion style Pinkie Pie had black greasy marks on her legs when I got her. Maybe it's oil from the machinery in the factory? I just don't know. It washed off fairly easily, though. But she still has some smaller marks like a black smudge on one ear which isn't the same grease.

I had hoped people would post the MIB "Rarity Pie" Carriage photos in this thread! I'll have to dig them up from old threads later.

There's been 2 different documented people (one here, one on the MLPTP) who bought a Rarity carriage and the head is actually Pinkie Pie's head on Rarity's body, meaning there's no horn and Rarity's "diva" eyes are stamped over the round "Pinkie Pie" eye depressions!

lol Seeing those photos really made my day. Now there's an error that I can see being worth something in the future!

but its got me on the hunt for goof ups

@Axalth:  Celestia's glittery eye is beautiful in that pic...

My most common issue is head and body mismatch.  I don't see why it would be so freaking hard to use the same kind of plastic for both sections of the pony...
