Title: Groundhog Day
Post by: Kiwi on February 02, 2012, 05:53:09 AM
Well, only 4 more weeks of Winter for Ontario - thanks to Wiarton Willy :D

The guy on the radio was having a laugh - said the ground hogs were trying to predict the end of something that never started (we've had a very light winter here) :P

Shubenacadie Sam seems to be saying early spring too. I decided this year not to care about Balzac Billy. I want real groundhogs, not dudes in costumes. :P Their shadows mean nothing to me. Nothing! :silly:

But I guess it's time to play the annual Groundhog Day movie. "So put your little hand in mine . . ."

By reality will get 4 to 6 weeks of winter anyway, so yeah! I don't pay attention to the groundhog!  >_<

6 more weeks of winter here.  It's been a mild winter, but apparently the big storm is coming in tonight finally.

No idea what the outcome here in Kentucky is but we've had a mild winter which I've very much been enjoying so I wouldn't be surprised if we got the early spring outcome too.

Ok...I "think" I understand the concept of Groundhog Day but what does the groundhog actually do to tell you how much longer winter will be?

hathorcat- If the groundhog sees his shadow, then it is six more weeks of winter. (I think he is scared and goes back in his hole).
If there is no shadow, then it is the "normal" four weeks of winter.

Eh I don't really buy that a groundhog seeing/not seeing his shadow means anything about the weather so I don't really pay attention to the "holiday" anymore.

I honestly think the damn groundhog has it backwards. If you see your shadow, it means the SUN is out. Which wouldn't you THINK would mean spring is coming? NOT  6 more weeks of winter? Stupid illogical rodent.

Chicago has apparently not had much of a winter, although I disagree with everyone saying that. It has snowed, and has been freezing until just the past few days. Sounds like winter to me.
Also, it doesn't really get "warm" here until the end of May, so JUST WAIT PEOPLE.

I do find it funny that these are the same folks who were predicting the worst winter in history or something and were warning everyone.

The groundhog thing is pretty silly.  :|
