I went to the local TRU in search of Blind Bags. I was excited to see the box and a bunch of foil bags. Upon closer inspection I saw that most of the bags were ripped open and the ponies were missing. There were about 12 of the slashed bags with missing ponies. I did manage to find 2 bags with ponies still inside of them.
The shelf price tag said MLP little ponies for $1.99.
I just can't believe someone would do this!
Looks like the TRU just stocked up on pony items recently. A few playsets and wave 4 brushable ponies.
-
oh no! Someone stole them!
I hope you notified the managers there!
-
Yes....this is surprisingly common....for a £2 or $2 item!!! People are pathetic.....I dont think its just an MLP problem though....some of the blind bags [lego and transformers] in 2 of my local supermarkets are now in individual thick plastic security boxes which you have to take to check out and have a member of staff open at the point of purchase....I hope they dont do this with MLP it would make identifying who is who very difficult!
-
0_0 Holy cow that sucks!
Now maybe I see why most of the Walmarts in my area decided not to get them...
-
People are downright lousy thieving b@$*ards. Honestly. You can't spend TWO DOLLARS on a little toy? Friggin cheapskates. I hope they caught them on tape and catch them the next time they come into the store...Jerks.
-
I did notify the managers. Maybe that's why blind bag toys in general are not popular at stores. They are too easy to steal.
I was so ready to buy the whole box. My daughter loves them so! I've eliminated so many other things in our budget so we can get these! (and I so love Milano cookies!)
It's so sad that a few "bad apples" can ruin things for the bushel!
-
In the Intertoys store here they have the box on the cashier counter...
It's really pathetic....
-
That is so common among blind box/bag toys sadly :cloud:

Pathetic, maybe. SMART? YES. No one is going to try and steal them right in front of the cashier's face. I mean, at least no one who isn't trying to hold up th eintire store....
-
Some of the shops over here keep them behind the counter and you have to ask for them.
Not ideal for checking the numbers on the back lol
-
This reminds me of my YuGiOh manga, whenever they give away a free trading card with the book, the card is ALWAYS ripped out of the back when I buy it. Makes me so mad. I don't mind because I don't play the card game, but still... People are so low.
-
Wow! Blind bag thieves!
-
That's so saddening. It's a shame there are people that could stoop so low. I've seen that before myself, especially with blind bag/box figures/toys :(

Same with the Shonen Jump Magazines that had cards in them. I've seen those "no-steal" boxes with other stuff at Staples. Call me crazy but I think it's a good idea with what they're doing (maybe putting it behind the counter is taking it a bit far though). Maybe they need, if not that box that only the cashier opens, the super-hard have-to-cut-with-scissors plastic around the item.
-
Regarding the 'behind the counter' service, a lot of my local stores do that anyway. WH Smith have done it for as long as I can remember.
-
I thought the ripped bags meant they wanted to know which pony was inside and didn't know about the numbering on the bag. I was wrong!
-
That's sad :(
I've seen similar things at the dollar store. I mean, really - it's a dollar and someone felt the need to steal it....
-
Geez people can so inconsiderate x.x
-
People do this all the time in the states. It's sad, but a fact of life.
-
I think this is exactly the reason they keep trading cards up at the front of most stores, near the registers where the cashiers can keep an eye on anyone looking at them. To be honest, I'm surprised they don't keep these types of toys up there too.
That is ridiculous, though. Not only that they most likely stole the things (they could have just opened the, found what they wanted, and then taken one bag to the register and said "I have X number of these") but because half the fun of blind bag things is not knowing what you're getting.
-
When I got mine way back when from the JCPenney outlet, a bunch of them had been ripped open and stolen :( It was kind of in a bad area, and it IS the kids section, which makes things even more prone to destruction, but man it sucked to see.
-
Wow...that makes me angry. >_< Sorry you had to experience that.
-
Hrm. Thus far the York stock hasn't had that happen, though they're in a really big aisle where it'd be hard to take/open them anyway.
It's really crappy to see this happen, they're pocket money toys... I felt bad getting my set but I covered that spend by moving off some G1s/not getting takeout that week/putting my spare ones up for sale. It's only £1.70 per bag...
-
That's pretty terrible. =( It would be a great idea to put them by the counter for sure.
-
I noticed the same thing today. There was a bunch of blind bags with one opened but the figurine was still inside. However I've seen dozen of times (in the same shop) the G3,5 mermaid boxes damaged because someone ripped out the ponies....
-
That's just sad.
-
:( thats awful. I've seen it before with Dollymix ponies *sigh*
-
That's really crummy, for the store and for people who want to buy them!
-
This happens all the time where I work. It's really sad that this happens, and the amount of stuff stolen items that we find empty packages for every day is astounding. :/
-
Sorry that happened. I used to be into collecting webkinz like crazy (not as much anymore) and if webkinz were in an area in a store where employees couldn't keep a watch on them all the time, people would rip the tags off the webkinz and steal the codes so they don't need the plush. I've seen it happen a few times. Now, the new packaging is in boxes and the codes are harder to get. Some stores still get the plushes though.
I've never seen blind bags in stores. I've looked occasionally, but no luck.
-
That is so low, what is wrong with people seriously? It seems to be a matter of "its only a cheap item so it doesn't matter". It doesn't matter if its $2 or $2000, stealing is stealing.

I agree. It's sad either way you look at it: whether it was a kid or teenager doing it, or a parent stealing for their kid or an older collector stealing for themselves. It's not like they're expensive. The only reason I could see why someone would want to steal it, as a collector, is to get the ponies they wanted instead of getting a bunch of random ponies. That's the whole point. Not saying the reason is justified----certainly not.
-
When I worked at Borders this happened all the time with the Lego minifigs. Some people..
-
Wow, that is ridiculous. :/
Whenever we go to TJ Maxx (my mom looks for clothes, I look for ponies), there are always a lot of toys that are just cardboard backings, or toys left with only instruction booklets and stuff. There was a plush Mickey Mouse & Book set, and the plush Mickey Mouse was gone, things like that. So sad. :c
-
Oh man! That sucks! I absolutely hate it when something is stolen! I was in the walmart the other day looking through the books, and someone had stolen the exclusive mini figure out of a LEGO Star Wars book! Some people, I swear...
-
that happened a lot when i was trying to buy WWE dog tags. everyone wanted the relics with snippets of t-shirt from the wrestler. 1 relic per box. i knew how to pack search, so i always got the relic out of the new boxes, but other people didn't and they'd rip open the packages and steal the dog tags :( it wasn't very fun. same with the WWE slurpie straws. my aunt in florida was picking some of the cups up for me because we don't have a 7-11 here, and she said all the figures were taken off the straws. so now i don't have the straws that go to the cups. i hate when people do that! it happens with those gomu erasers a lot here too.
-
That is horrible. At my Walmart, the lady I talked to scanned the bb tag and said that there were 10 left in stock but she knew they were probably stolen. That is why she was glad to see if she could order me a box to buy.
-
Which tru? Imma be mad if it's the one I've been stalking for the last week. I'm ok with someone beating me to them, but not someone beating me to them just to STEAL them...grrr...they're 2 friggin bucks. I never understood why people even open them just to find the ones they're looking for. So inconsiderate to others...
-
Wish I could say I was surprised...heck, I work in a *library*, and things are stolen from here all the time.

I love working in the library....Anyway....In the back of my head I know things get stolen all the time. I've seen random things missing from packages all the time. But that's one thing here and there; not too often. But what I saw and I don't know how else to described it...Blatant carnage of the foil packets was just too much for me.
-
I had that happen with the DM ponies, I was looking and found a bag that had been opened, the pony was in there so I guess they were really desperate to find someone.
I also remember when I found the FIM magazine the only copy in the shop had had the 'free gift' ripped off the front.
Some people I really can't believe they do things like that. I've been in supermarkets or places like 99Pence Stores and found multipacks of food where people have done stuff like taken out a bag of crisps, a chocolate bar etc.And there was also the time me and my brother were in the local Tesco Metro and a guy just picked up a chocolate brownie from the bakery bit and was just eating in in the queue and he didn't even pay for it!
So yeah, people really don't suprise me.
-
what Ive seen the kids do here is taking the free toys that are with the magazines..so what happens then is the newsagent takes them off and puts them in the back of the store..more often than not they loose them lol
-
How annoying, but having worked in retail, it doesn't at all surprise me unfortunately. I've caught so many shoplifters in the past, and it's almost never over the pricey items, no, it's always the little pocket items that people just don't want to "waste their time" waiting in line for. It was always so satisfying to make someone look like a fool when you caught them red handed over a $3 item. :satisfied:
I haven't seen the blind bag ponies at my local stores yet, but I've seen others like Squinkies, Lalaloopsy, and Lego at my local Walmart and there always seems to be a stash of empty bags next to the cases. I think they really need to start keeping them closer to the registers.
-
UGH I hope this doesn't happen at my local Wal-mart (I hope they are selling them, haven't had a chance to look yet BUT I REALLY WANT THEM).
This reminds me of when I was really into neopets a couple of years ago. My grandma offered (still wow on this because I was in high school!) to buy me a couple, and we were at Khols I think it was. Well, I forgot to check the tags before buying to see if the code tag was still there and on my cloud uni it was missing! I really wanted the keyquest totum too. *sigh*. I didn't want to return her because I still really wanted the uni and it was the last one, but seriously.
I heard some people were selling the tags on ebay to. The ones they probably stole.
People sicken me sometimes.
Speaking of neopet plushies I still regeret not buying a strawberry one and a plushie plush wockie XD
