Title: That moment when you realize you will never have your collecting grail...
Post by: NoDivision on January 28, 2012, 07:59:43 PM
Yeah... that moment... I just had it.

My favorite collection is my, albeit small, collection of Zatanna figures. Ta-da!

I also have several art prints that feature her, artist sketchbooks, and of course most of the comics she's featured in. I have a few more items on my wishlist that I'm working on tracking down that are reasonably priced, but the thing I want most of all is this figure

Problem is... this was made in an extremely limited run of only 900... which means although her retail was $90 it is lucky thee days to find her under $300. :yikes:

I had a hard enough time justifying the $100 price tag of the big statue in the middle there... I could never justify $300 on a small figure.

BEING A GROWN UP STINKS D:

My belief is that if it makes you happy and you can manage to squeeze it in the budget, do it! Hehe

It does suck, I agree.

if only I could stretch the budget... but I just had to buy a new computer, and I'm trying to save to go to the fair, and... yeeaaahhh D:

I'm with tuney. If it's something you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally want, find a way to save for it :3 And someday, down the road when you are no longer "that into it", your 300$ investment now will be worth who knows how much more x number of years from now when you need a little extra do-re-mi :silly:

I wouldn't say I'll never have my most pricey grails, but it will definitely be a long, loooong time before I can afford some of them  :drunk:

You could ways just save for it.   Cut your collection budget down for a while.  If you think about it, in the long term, $300 isn't much.  If you pit $20 a week away, you will have her in a couple of years.  And 2 years waiting is better than never.

$300 isn't much, but it takes me a while to save. And in the long list of my priorities, a superhero statue is pretty low. Have to pay for other grown up things... hence, being a grown up, no fun!

I'm sorry Nod. That stinks! But maybe you'll get her eventually!

I agree, don't give up just yet!  It took me a few years to get my ultimate Buffy collection grail.  But my Premium Format Spike statue is sitting right behind me as I type...so don't say "never"!

Just out of curiosity, what Zatanna figure is it?  Is it the animated one?

...edited because I can't spell...

Yup it's the animated one. Pictures doesn't want to show up anymore for whatever reason...

You know you guys are making me think this is possibly not so totally unatainable :D I just worry that if I finally save up money I won't be able to find her anymore x_x

I'm terrible. I'd rather spend my money on 'fun stuff' than essentials like food or a new car, the latter of which I need really, really badly!

That's how I usually am too, Tuney. I have very little disposable income each month after rent and bills, but I alway manage to spend far too much of it on fun stuff!

Maybe it's not a "never" just a not right now.  That's what makes them grails!  Don't give up!

Yup...I know what you mean - there are always so many things above "what we want" on the priority list. I would say "never say never" and maybe one day a bargain will come along!! Good luck....

Hey, hun...Maybe you can put away all your change for a year and if you have enough by the end of the year, you can have the bank exchange it for you then buy your figure online. :) Or just $5 a week put in a separate account? It might help you get closer to affording it.

edit: just got curious and did a google search...  http://www.manofactionfigures.com/products/dc-universe-online-zatanna-statue-dc-direct (http://www.manofactionfigures.com/products/dc-universe-online-zatanna-statue-dc-direct) is this one that you don't have? This site has this one...hope that might help a little.

The animated Harley Quinn statue is on my "OMG ONE day!" list too, so I know what you mean.  But don't worry, if you save up, I'm sure you'll be able to find her somewhere...eventually your patience will pay off!

You never know! Look at the all the rare high-dollar ponies that sometimes end up going for less. In the meantime, maybe when you give up fast food or something else you might consider a luxury, like coffee, etc, you can put that money toward your figure.

You can also coupon (even if it's just one or two coupons) and put the money you would've spent without the coupons in your figure fund.

Nope, not that one. That is one I'm currently buying, though.

I always find that if you really want something then it's worth the time and money to get it! I don't have many grails myself, most of them are autographs of people I want to meet. I do have a Buffy Scythe from the tv show which I had to have when I saw it as I knew it'd go. Also, I got one of the Beedle The Bard books from Harry Potter for £50 when it first came out and now it's trebbled in price so am happy with myself there!

I understand that!  There's a BJD that I really want, but she's so expensive!  I doubt I'll ever be able to excuse her price tag  :(

I can do even better than that. The one I wish I could have someday was limited but nobody I know of bought her with her fantasy parts (which was the whole reason I liked her), at least in the English speaking BJD community. For all I know the version with the fantasy parts could have sold like hotcakes in Asia but I don't speak any Asian languages to be able to find out. Sadly I don't think I'll ever be able to track down a second hand one even if I ever have the money to do so.

I don't think I'll ever really have grails because I have too hard a time actually spending money on anything for myself.  For me, it 'needs' to be a need before I'll spend money on it, unless it's really cheap and I REALLY want it.  I just passed up blind bags because I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money on them... then when I went back because I did want them, they were gone.  But I'm not too sad.  i think if there is anything I really want that would cost a lot it would be something Mario or Zelda related... cause I'm not shelling too much out for ponies.

I may never get my grail, but that's because she's so rare to find! (Argie Brillitos...the Sprinkles unicorn in yellow with pink hair...)

That's a lofty goal, Tuney, but if I know you I'm sure you'll track her down eventually!

I know the feeling, I keep plugging away at something. For me because it's a virtual item I can't buy it with $$ without breaking the sites TOS from another member. In addition the item is so OLD (gosh, '03) that it rarely comes up for sale at all anymore.

So when it does, the virtual price tag is huge and I just can't justify the IRL monies I would need to create that kind of virtual cash for a pixel item. If I'm going to spend a couple hundred dollars I'd rather have something tangible as it were.

My grail...

…the 20th anniversary statue of Sonic the Hedgehog...

You know, the 2000-issue run that was not for general sale and half of it went to SEGA employees and the rest were divided by UK/Japan and US because of a sticker change?

Never won anything he was a prize for.

Dang… my hedgehog. ;_;

At least it's "just" a money issue. You can save up or win the lottery.

I've been searching for my grail (MOC Italy Moondancer) for 13 years and I've never even seen one.
