I know the original thread (http://mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=275350.html) should be coming here soon (cause our mods rock so hard) but I wanted to start something small just to keep the discussion and fun alive.
How is everyone doing? does anyone need help, advice, hugs?

The difference: you are only making a custom for yourself and sharing your progress and results to the community.

What’s the Dream Challenge?
The dream challenge is where we finally set the time; away from everything else to finally work on a custom that we have dreamt about for years/months/weeks/days.
That’s it; this challenge is a personal promise to yourself to make a custom that screams your dreams.Those who sign up are strongly encouraged to post a monthly/weekly/daily/whatever your schedule lets you, WIP of your dream pony.
Those who sign up should be willing to ask questions, give feedback, offer encouragement, work hard, maybe write a tutorial and have fun! This should be a nice exercise in doing some personal work and expanding our boundaries as artists.
You have one year to complete your dream custom.

Deadlines:
Design: 12/1 Please try to sketch or pull together a group of inspirational images for at least some element of the design...the cutie mark, eyes, feathers...etc. Better if you can doodle the whole thing. There is line art in the arena coloring book you can easily print and doodle.
Include what bait you'd like and hair colors.
Also include if you have any "weaknesses" and need some help. Between all of us we can reverse engineer anything and have a clue on how to get it done!
WIPs are due on the 3rd of each month starting January (around there give or take) You can post as often as you want but you really should post once a month. You gotta keep on it!
Dream Finished/Challenge Complete: 12/25/12 - That's right...Holiday season....you really should wrap her up and give her to yourself for a holiday gift...you have earned her ^_^

FAQ:
Can I make more than 1? Yes...but you have to finish one by or before the deadline.
Can I finish early? Yes...the deadline is just a goal for us slow people. If you can get your's done faster then go ahead.
Seriously do the deadlines mean anything? With any major project breaking it down to small obtainable goals is key to getting it finished. Deadlines also give us target dates, which people are likely to pay attention to.
Can I quit? It's your pony...however don't be surprised to get a PM from me asking you what's up and if I can help.
I don't have X supply can we trade? Feel free to post supply needs and trade options on the thread (within Arena Rules). We are all striving for a dream pony here so it's a good thing to help out.
Do I have to be active in the thread? You really should be, if anything to answer questions or share insight and definately share progress.
I'm nervous about sharing WIPs, cause I think people will not like them. What then? Do NOT EVER be afraid to show us your work. Constructive conversations help us as artists and rude people wont' be tolerated. However if you are deathly afraid you can PM me your WIP.

I only just got back home and settled. To be honest I've been focusing on my other swap projects lately, so the Automata Pony is still a pile of sticks and tape. I need to sun fade my Persona bait, she's a lil too dark. (need sun plz) :work:

I need longer pliers to finish getting the hair out of SS Pinkie. I've never worked with a styling sized G3 before. DX. The rest is primed and ready for sculpting and hole-making!

Hemostats work nicely with the SS ponies but you'll want to boil the head a bit first as that glue is just a nightmare and the harder plastic makes it hard to work with.
Just got my crystals in for my dark peacock queen and should be getting some more sculpting done this weekend! So watch out WIP coming soon!

I admit I got REALLY far behind. As a matter of fact, I may have changed my mind completely about what I am doing...But, for now I am still on for the whole Native American tribal Princess. We shall see how it comes out. I am sorry I don't have any WIP to show off yet.

The only thing I've done is to airbrush her again in a brighter white. I got her hair in the mail and I have my sculpting supplies but I haven't started on her yet. Right at the moment I'm working on a custom for someone else on a deadline so that one has to come first. I'll do my best to get her rehaired asap!

I have some swap customs to get on with too so it might have to stay on the back burner for a little while.

I'll bump this a little as well as to announce that I haven't gotten anywhere really on my ponies... *hides*
lucky we have until next x-mas! haha.
I've managed to chop of a bunch of wings though.... now i gotta figure out how to just roughly close the massive holes in their backs. Doh... i think I need to purchase some wire frame and some more apoxie sculpt. :)
right now i'm a little busy with work and a few other customs. MAking one for a lovely woman at my work who's quiting. gonnamiss her loads. and then im finishing up a few WIPs. :)

Its going slow but it is getting there - I have so many projects that require sculpting that I have not actively picked her up and worked on her solo but have been taking left over apoxie and adding to her sculpt that way :)

I will try and work on the hair curling for my merpony this weekend between commissions.
However I also have 3 little baby star ponies that I might be able to finish as well, they each have a little rabbit friend in matching colours :D

all I can say for update is repeat myself from earlier. my to-use pegasi has huge holes in them and a baby pony has no head. :P
finishing my WIPs before I start seriously on this project. :) still need a few baits that I haven't got yet.

Half a bottle of acetone later and my partially deflocked bait is now pretty much deflocked, just glue residue to contend with! >_<

I still only have a prepped bait but I did finish my "deadline" custom last night so hopefully I'll get a little done on Cassiopeia when I'm not working on my Supergirl costume :art:

And I finally got the rest of that pesky darn hair out of Pinkie Pie's head! Lots of elbow grease and non-Arena friendly words were involved. I'm working on making a good surface on which to start sculpting scales, and I'm plotting out the hair plug locations on his face, back, and hooves.
I gotta sculpt that tail receptacle too!

Sadly, not much progress. I've been obsessing about my lack of money and being laid off and it's just killed my creativity. Still haven't even been able to decide how to do what I want. OMG i have been soooo out of it on being online...... my life is a total wreck...but working on this dream pony has actually helped quite a bit!!
i've been working on feathered wings... on mesh and wire frames. they are taking quite some time! especially since they are on a styling g3 Rarity and rather large........
taking on a nice challenge helps keep my mind off the other problems going on!......
i'll snap a couple pics of my WIP shortly.....

I don't think that I'll be in a position to do any more on mine until April now, as I have customs and other things to do for the army swap first.

If I had a wand of motivation +5 I would so be using it on you guys and myself too. Though unfortunately the alchemists I work with are on strike... something about union problems with the potion makers 486. ^_^

Haven't worked on my octo pony lately - still need to decide a color scheme and sit down and actually make each sucker.....that will be super time consuming :) Thank goodness for Netflix to keep me entertained as I embark on this tedious task

I have actually made a teensy bit of progress.
I found and bought 2 meters of black silky cloth to use for my ponies' clothes. :D Yay!

we're on our way to getting nice spring here in south sweden. all we need is it to become a little warmer.
but at least the snow is completely gone and the early spring flowers are starting to sprout and bloom. :lovey: it's wonderful!
but we need it WARMER!!! :P

No progress for me lately. I got my husband back from the Marines recently and we've both been finding new jobs so it's been hectic. I've also got costumes I'm working on for DragonCon so they have been stealing my free time, lol. I'm also reworking my craft room and have been helping my grandmother clean her 3 car garage out. I've been keeping busy XD
I have been researching sculpted wings though! There isn't a ton of info on them but I think I have the gist. I'm thinking about getting some Apoxie Clay for them, my Apoxie Sculpt has a habit of going limp while it's drying. I'm dithering on her wing style also, I don't know if I want a natural look or more of an anime look.

Actually the way I see it your baby mimic is the best choice for this challenge...she'll be your first and since she is only for you and to be loved by you...that makes it super special.
The idea is to do a pony that is just for you and only you, the pony you've been craving to do. So no pressure, just enjoy the process.

Yeah I'll stick to baby Mimic then, thank you. ^_^ I'm pretty behind but I want to get Mimic's body colour right which I'm finding so hard. >_< I've fitter the right paint it's just mixing it correctly and I need to learnt to paint a pony in general lol..
On a different note, Darkhorse your customs are amazing you are extremely talented. :) just thought you should know.

Ok, so I've finally decided to customize one of my Giant 18" Momba Jomba's.....my idea is to create a dappled gray carousel horse. Here is one of the sketches I've come up with so far and some Hena designs I plan on incorporating throughout the pony. :)

Make sure you let us know how much time and how much hair...need to know so when I tackle my big momma I'm not surprised ^_^

You got it :) I have a feeling it's going to cost me just as much for the hair as it did to purchase the pony itself. I'm planing on using Nylon and keeping it long enough to touch her hooves, which means I will not be doubling the hanks.....yikes ;)

Yikes about explains it since I'm thinking at least 30 hanks just for a decent full tail alone...the head....would be like a million more.
and then there's the mass amount of apoxie sculpt you need...

Unfortunately I have to pack my progress work away for now. I have to move and I have very little time to work on it. I plan on finishing my current swaps and then just lay low until I'm settled in a more secure place. I hope to be able to start it back up before the summer starts.

Ok so a little more progress on the octopony - some small finishing sculpt work is still needed but it should be pretty easy - yeah right - you know how time consuming and fiddly sculpting 8 swirling legs is....it sucks!

I can imagine, I'm having a hard enough time with four dangling ones.
I'm all settled in my new place and ready to start up my challenges again. I had to deconstruct my Automata pony, so I need to fix that before moving on. I may need to get a new bait for my persona, the fading is NOT happening.

I see more ponies than just me have been putting the project on the shelf for a little while until real life comes back on track. :) But we still have about 6 months so no stress, right? ;)
I have finally come around to at least prep (or start prepping) a bunch of baits.
I still don't have all the required baits unfortunately, but i'll start with what I have. :)
