I sure have! I really want to get some new figures, but EVERYWHERE is sold out! If you look on eBay, they're going for insane prices. I wanted Dark Spyro, so I bought the 3DS pack and I'm selling the other two figures. In the end I'm only paying like £15 for the game and Dark Spyro!

I was told by a good pal of mine last night that this game is awesome, and the night prior I was eyeballing the PS3 version @ Toys R Us for a good 10 minutes. So it's not sold out here, thankfully. Supplies are really good, it's just a matter of affording it, for me :P It does look fun. Maybe I should invest in some copies next paycheque to sell on eBay, and pay for my own copy that way xD which platform version is selling the best?

We have managed to resist the actual game here (we have plans to get it as our anniversary gift this year) but we each have a figure (mine will spit rainbows!) and are looking for others. We will be all set when we get the game in March! Unfortunately everything is sold out here too right now.

My nephew got the game for Christmas. It didn't look too exciting to me, but my sister played it for a while and she was really getting into it!

We have two of the figures and I'm still watching out for Cynder, but a $60 game is a bit out of my price range right now. Still looks awesome though.

Oh god no lol - I refuse to play anything that is too addictive, my whole family have addictive personalities so I try not to tempt myself. As we speak, my mother is deep in the zone of some online multi player game, I am sure if she had a colostomy bag hooked up she wouldn't move for the next day or so until she was in serious need of some sleep :P

anyway, my boyfriend and I are playing...actually we're doing more purchasing than playing at this point. lol. Everywhere is sold out here too! And I am kicking myself for not picking up a stealth elf when she was widely available! It's got two things going for it I like: collecting and cute things!

ME! I got the 3DS version for Christmas and I got the PS3 version for my husband for his birthday...we have MOST of the figures that are out at this time, plus 3 of the Adventure Packs. We were SO excited to come across the Empire of Ice the last time we were at Target.
VERY addicted, lol!

I got into it a couple of months ago - had a great time hitting all the black friday and pre-christmas sales. I've got a price target of $5 per figure, and I've been surprised how many I've been able to find at that price..... :biggrin:
I even got 1 free, when ToysRus.com was having a BOGO, and then the more expensive item ended up cancelled.....they still sent me the cheaper one, totally for free! No shipping or anything!! :thumb:

I work in Gamestation and we get a few figures in every few days and then we are literally mobbed with people trying to get hold of them. Yet we had shelves and shelves of the things before Christmas. I won a figure from a competition on a packet of Sugar Puffs though so there you go... in a few months when they hype has died down and people are getting rid of it I will probably play it for the trophies as (from what I played at work and from what little kids have told me) it seems insanely easy.

I want to play so much!!!! But i do not have enough money for the starter pack or any of the extra guys... I spend too much money on my dolls... LOL At least $40 a paycheck... LOL
Anyway... I wish i could, i LOVE SPYRO!!! He is my hero and always has been since i was little. I used to play Spyro on PS. Man i miss that game

Cynder's all over ebay (for $40+) and I've spotted a few (very few) from the same set she seems to be from available at stores. When we talked to the gamestop guy, he was like "they have a 2 hour shelf life" so I wouldn't be surprised if she were all over town but only during the two hours I was asleep or playing Dragon Age.

Its really not that popular here. I mean, I can go to GameStop on any given day and see their shelves crammed with figures. I honestly think its kind of silly to have to buy accessories to play a game. Me, I want to BUY the game, PLAY the game and be able to enjoy it as is. A game to me is poorly designed if you don't have all the components required to enjoy it already included in it. DLC is different, seeing as its additional content that gives you *more* than what was already included, and doesn't clutter up your house with useless junk...Neh, but I guess some people look at ponies and see useless junk too ^^;Still, I dont like having to buy 15 bucks worth of extra characters just to play the game more efficiently. Seems dumb. Maybe I'll go to GameStop and start Ebaying them :silly:

And far from being a silly, poor design, this game is brilliant. People buy the game, decide they like it and THEN they go buy lots of figures. OR they buy the figures (like me) because they're so neat and THEN buy the game because we wanna play with our figures. Then both groups go out and buy MORE!!! It's a genius concept! Easily on par with Pokemon.

At least with Pokemon it isn't a sink hole of (real life) money for every creature you catch. They're all already in game :silly: Is there even a demo on Xbox Live?

Not sure if there's a demo on any system. But I feel I should mention that each game comes with three characters - more than enough to play and enjoy any game of this sort. The extra characters and such are simply that - extra. You buy them if you want, but there's nothing demanding that you do so. In that way it is no different from DLC. You forgo the DLC and you are left with less than the full game. You download all of the DLC and you can easily spend several times the cost of the game itself just for a few extra scenarios, quests, characters and such. But it is optional either way.
Moreover, many Pokemon require that one either own or have access to several other Pokemon games. To complete the set, one must have either an extensive network of friends (and much patience) or several versions of the game, either current or previous releases. To my knowledge there is no (unhacked) Pokemon game that features ALL Pokemon as wild and acquirable using only that game.

I MUST have Cynder! I favor Hex myself, as well...She's got a great set of powers. I also like Trigger Happy, he makes me LOL. And I think Zap is adorable! I can't wait to get my hands on the Dragon's Peak Adventure set though. We have all the rest of them, but we haven't run across that one yet.

I must admit that this board is made up of a great group of people! Ponies may have brought everyone together but there are so many other common interests: LPS, Minecraft, and now Skylanders.

I can honestly see Skylanders becoming the next Pokemon... Tv shows, merch, etc. Kids just LOVE the goal of collecting a full set of stuff (something I think we can well understand on a board like this).
If people (especially any UKers) are having a massive trouble finding any figures I can probably find them some from work. They are £7.99 but I do get discount I just can't remember how much at the moment. Pm me.

I remember reading somewhere that the exclusives were going to become non-exclusive after general release, so that would explain it. I also saw Drill Sargeant at GameStop, and he was a Wal-Mart exclusive to begin with.

I like playing as spyro best, I'm biased I guess :p But I also enjoy wrecking ball. The figure looks dumb, but in game he's adorable and I love his wrecking ability.

I snagged a Whirlwind at Target before the holidays, since she was an exclusive. I plan on getting all of them once they aren't as hard to find. I'll get the game as well for Spyro, but I'm not sure whether or not I'll play the game through. I just think the figurines are cute!

Do you mean all the charaters, or just the ones that haven't been released?
Because the official site here [size=78%]http://www.skylanders.com/ (http://www.skylanders.com/)[/size] shows all the characters that have been announced. I know that they plan on slowly releasing additional characters, but to the best of my knowledge, nothing has been shown or specifically mentioned.

Ok, so I'll be honest. I went to Gamestop last night with the FULL intention of picking up Skylanders. Honestly. I did. But I decided not to after talking to the salesperson for a good 30 minutes about it. I'll see if what she said is true (and what led to my not purchasing). So she said that in order to unlock all the gates in the game, you are *required* to buy all the figures? In other word, you buy a fifty dollar game (on sale right now), and you can't even PLAY the whole thing without spending an extra...four figures per element..ten ? elements...minus the three...Lets just say an extra hundred or so dollars (I'm ballparking) on figures? TO UNLOCK content you already PURCHASED? See if that's true, to me that is a MASSIVE marketing ploy and a HUGE ripoff! And completely *different* from buying DLC, as DLC *ADDS NEW* content to the game, and does not unlock content you should already have access to.
SO. Is it true? Did the lady make a mistake? Are the figures required to make progress in gates in the game? This is a pivotal answer in whether or not I purchase or not =\ I'm just the type that doesn't like getting ripped off...
Oh, and as far as The pokemon thing goes about having to have the different versions to get all of the Pokemon, that stopped with Pokemon Black and White. You are now able to get them over the Global Trade Station, and you can also sync your game cards with the new Dream World game that Nintendo has on the web and you can get a new Pokemon that you can't catch in Black and White every day (free!) So There's kind of no comparison anymore ^^;

There are 32 characters and you by no means have to have all 32! There are 8 elements in the game, and to get past the various gates, you need one of each element. So, if you want to get every single little thing, you need 8 figures, one of each type. You get 3 in the starter pack, so you only would need to buy 5 more. the gates are not detrimental to the game, they give you more money and 'hats'- the hats give you stat boosts. You can beat the game fine with just the 3 it comes with, the gates are just a fun little bonus I think, not necessary for game completion.

Yeah, like Eternia said, you can beat the game just fine with the 3 that it comes with, but if you play for trophies, you won't get them all without buying at least 5 more figures so that you have one of each element. The gates are just "elemental challenges" and don't push the story forward or anything at all. They're just for bonuses.

So an extra 40 dollars (US) to access the full content of the game? ( If you buy them singularly, at least. I know there's 3 packs that are 20 a piece...so yeah still 40 :P) I am a completionist, unfortunately. I'm not down for spending extra money to access content I've already purchased. It feels too much like a con to me. :( I'm glad you guys enjoy it, but I think I'll have to take a pass. Thanks for the info guys!

We have been playing, but we have settled down until the next wave of figures comes out. We did buy a few figures on eBay, but not for ridiculous prices!
One salesman told us that the exclusive figures will be re-released in a 3 pack, so we are holding out for that! I wish they would hurry up and fill the stock, though. This is horrible having to wait months!

I just sold the pirate ship set on ebay yesterday...But I have an extra whirlwind and cynder. My sister caught this particular bug around christmas (since I work in a game store) and if I'd have known they were THIS hard to find, I would have just bought all our stock months ago. XD; My sis has had my entire family scouting for her...
So when I saw three she didn't have yet in the store, I bought them up. Unfortunately, I called her as I was leaving the store and she tells me quite flippantly, "I just bought those 'sissy. Take them back." ...So...I still have Whirlwind (which is ADORKABLE! Rainbows and clouds that kick butt!!) and Cynder still. I'm trying hard not to want them too. lol

I'm not sure about all of the platforms, but recently, at Game Stop, the price for the 3DS version was reduced to $49. I'm still not sure if that was a sale of the week or not, but you could probably make that much AT LEAST from the figures alone. Then you could afford the Wii version. Or if you have a 3DS, all the figures work for all the systems :)

Ah...well, you get 3 with the game as someone said before....and yes, to get all the treasure and things, you do need one of each element, but you can play through the game just fine with only 3. ^ ^ And~ it's a two player game. Dunno if anyone else has realized that? It took me tripping over the remote and accidentally starting up the second player to realize we could do that XD It helps level up faster and is pretty fun. My sister is 8 years younger than me and this is kind of our weekly bonding time before she remembers that she's a teenager again and dosen't need anyone else. (Sorry to the teenagers in the forum. ^ ^;; I was that way when I was that age too XD) You could always buy a few now and wait until the price drops in a few months. I approximate...around July/August. For some strange reason, that's the off season for gaming. Go figure!
But really, I enjoy playing it with her even though it's her game. It's a great way to accessorize a game, that's for sure!

You're missing the point. They're all extra. They're all optional. Nobody's forcing you to buy anything. For extra content, (the characters and everything that may be attached) you may choose to buy them. You may choose to pass. It is the same as DLC - exactly the same. And when a single character for Dragon Age Origins will cost me $14.99 on Playstation Store, $7-$9 for Cynder seems a decent price to me.
And for Pokemon - I would LOVE to be able to purchase some of the rarer ones for the price of a Skylanders figure. But that's just me.

cynder is awesome! She's my favorite to play with now, I love her little ghosties. So while playing this weekend, our portal started freaking out, like I would go to switch out my skylander and my bf's character would be 'reset' as well. which was annoying. and then mid-play it would say that a skylander had been taken off.
anyone else having issues with their portals? I reset it, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

My husband and I have been playing Skylanders since about February or March I think. It's pretty addictive! We've managed to collect all the characters except Warnado, Camo and Wham Shell and we've played through the game and extensions but still need to work on leveling up some of the characters and playing for completion on a few levels. We've been taking a bit of a break from it the last couple weeks but we're super excited for 'Giants' to come out this fall!

May I ask what Skylanfers is like on 3DS? I've been very keen on Skylanders for a while, but can't afford to gamble $80 on PS3. I love spyro. I'm going to have a look today. :D

Aren't the starter packs the same price on all platforms? I don't have any experience on 3DS (we have for PS3) but you cannot play 2 player on 3DS like you can on PS3.
We waited a long time to get it too because of the price but then we found it at TRU for 50% off, $35US.
So definitely keep an eye out for sales! I bet it will go on sale again before Giants comes out.

um yup T.T my son is addicted to this game, he saved up his allowance to buy half of the starter pack, i bought the other half since i knew i would play it too xD. at first we couldnt find ANY extra figures, but now, months later, the hype has worn down a bit in my area and we are finding lots of skylanders yaay but boo for our pocket money xD.

I wish more people understood this. My coworkers & I have been ripped apart countless times by grandparents & parents whose kids have told them that they absolutely can NOT progress in the game without a certain Skylander. It's always our fault that they, "spent so much money on a game that their kids can't even play," and when we finally convince them that we aren't hoarding them in the back, we get spend a good twenty-thirty minutes hunting down the character that they want. They're all in our system under the same SKU, so we have to call each store individually and have them drop everything so they can go see what they've got on the sales floor. Luckily the craze is dying down a little since Activision's keeping our stock up, but I'm seriously dreading the launch of Skylanders Giants. D:
Anyhoo! Sorry to rant. I picked the game up for my 3DS back when we had it on sale. It was definitely fun & addicting, but I burned out pretty quickly. >.<

I've recently found Warnado and Camo! I freaking love Camo, he's adorable! I'm getting the Dragons Peak pack on my birthday on Wednesday, and Sunburn will be the last dragon Skylander I need to collect. I can't wait for Giants, I hope there will be more dragons, phoenixes, griffins, and other such creatures!

hey does anyone know if there is actually a difference between the dark colored skylanders? iv never seen them in stores until recently but my son was interested in the dark looking chop chop xD is there any difference or is it just something to hunt down and collect?

Are you talking about the Legandary Skylanders? They don't look any different in game, but thier stats are higher :)
